News at Lyndon State College

The GSA has become aware of a recent website, Lyndon State College Stinks, that has been created by students and alumni of the college to provide a forum for students to voice their concerns regarding College policy and administration.  In addition the Caledonian Record, Lyndonville's local paper has sued the college in an attempt to force the college to disclose the nature of disciplinary hearings that involve violent or sexual crimes on campus.  The College is currently fighting the paper in court and attempting to discipline the students involved with the website.

The LSCGSA recognizes that the College has not always forcefully advocated for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and questioning students on its campus.  However, the GSA does feel that the College has always listened to its concerns and has made, in the past 6 years an honest attempt to deal with homophobia and homophobic incidents on campus in a fair and equitable manner.  The GSA does not necessarily support  the views expressed on the aforementioned website and does not suggest that the President of the College or any other specific member of the college community has deliberately attempted to play down the rash of hate crimes and homophobia that occurred on the campus earlier this year.

Keep Vermont Civil

Vermont's recent Civil Union law grants gays and lesbians the same rights as married couples in the State of Vermont has created a large controversy within Vermont.  Visit the Vermont Freedom To Marry Taskforce Homepage to learn more about how you can help keep and secure the right to marry for gay and lesbian people in Vermont and across the Country!

LSC Students, Faculty and Staff read at our Fight The Hate rally in which a weeping crab apple tree was planted in memory of the victims of hate crimes worldwide.

This event was held after the tragic murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay man killed because of his sexuality. Students, faculty and staff stressed tolerance and understanding and planted the tree in memory of not only Matthew Shepard, but for all victims of hate crimes. "Never again" many said about hate crimes and violence bred from intolerance. It is hoped, that with the springtime flowering and growing of this tree, that hate crimes against all types people will end soon.

Community Members

Are you a member of the community surrounding Lyndon State College that's interested in the GSA? Members of the community are always welcome at our meetings. Members of the Community that join the GSA have the same benefits, rights and privileges as the students of Lyndon State College that are Members of the GSA.

Hate Alert!

There were several incidents on the LSC campus last year and this year  regarding the harassment and intimidation of students because of their sexuality. If you have been the victim of one of these crimes, or know of a victim, please contact us. We will keep all information confidential and bring these horrible incidents to the attention of the college administration and if need be the authorities.

The GSA's Web Guru is Jeff Senterman, the former President of the group, who now is working in parts unknown of Maine, but manages to have an internet connection to keep the page updated. He can be reached at jsenterman@yahoo.com - he would always like to hear what you think about the page.
