We're all a leaf of a family tree. Some people are content to just be here, the past forgotten. Others would like to find the intricacies of life, take in each leaf of the tree. Of course, this is not always easy. To get started one would find it beneficial to find a friend to help them. The local History Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS or Mormon) has a genealogy collection of people in your area who have donated time and work to put as much information as possible in there. You might find your own line! If not, there are always helpful workers who would be more than happy to help you. The DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) is also a resource to look into. Their records should be correct.

The Internet also has a lot of resources available.

Family Tree Maker

Set up by Broderbund, there is a great search engine on this site and plenty of helpful tips. They also put out software that, though expensive, can be helpful. It's computer program is how I keep track of my line - I am hopelessly disorganized and this is the only way I can do it.

Genealogy Online

Here there is a chat. Nicely done, you reload the page so that people's words don't fly by when a lot of people are on. They also allow the option to peruse the past 'posts' put up, so every word is saved. These are in archives, and there is a search engine so you may look up surnames that other people may have asked about at one time.

A very nice web site, one of the first, if not the first, dedicated to Vanderhoof Genealogy. On it are links to a personal genealogy file, a condensed version of the generations of the early Vanderhoofs, and a passenger list of the 'De Bever' (The Bever) where the Vanderhoof's were supposed to have come across on.

From People on the Internet

I have received many emails from people about the Vanderhoof line, but I am afraid I don't know that much! However, I will post a few things I have received. I will also make spelling corrections if I see any. J

"Shane D. Koranda" <F215@FHSUVM.FHSU.EDU>

If not, basically I'm looking for the maiden name of Carrie Vanderhoof, wife to Thomas Vanderhoof of Milwaukee, WI. Through her, and other females, our family is related to Ulysses S Grant. I am looking for her parents and am looking to see how she's connected. If the Grant-Vanderhoof connection pans out, I'll be sure to let you know for your newsletter... If so my father was Thomas Paul Janas (now Koranda: through adoption), his mother was Caroline Janas-Vanderhoof, daughter of Carrie and Thomas Vanderhoof. Thanx for any help.

I believe that my GreatGrandmother was Florence Hoey (b. ? d. ? in NJ). I think that she married a Harry or Henry Vanderhoof (b 1896 d 1963 in NJ). They may have lived in Boonton, NJ. My Grandfather (their son) was Carlton Vanderhoof (b 1903 d 1980) who lived with his wife, Lucy Scelsa/Vanderhoof (b 1914 d 1978) in Hopatcong, NJ. They had a son, James Vanderhoof (b. 1936), resides in Lake Hopactong, NJ and daughter (my mother) Florence Janet Vanderhoof/Carr (b. 1945, currently resides in Delran, NJ).
