WXSat decodifica figuras codificadas em uma subportadora de um geostacionário satelite metereológico ou de uma transmissão de ondas curtas (FM). A análise e decodificação do som poder ser via placa de som ou de um arquivo de som wave. O bitmap preto e branco ou colorido pode ser armazenado e futuramente processado e impresso por outros programas. Os arquivos wave (.wav) precisam ser sampleados a uma taxa de 11.025 kHz, único canal com 8 bits de resolução.
Esse programa precisa de um PC com um processador 80386 ou superior, com ao menos 4 Mb de RAM, Windows 3.11 ou 95, e uma placa de som (11.025 kHz, mono), um adaptador gráfico com no mínimo 8 bits de resolução por pixel (256 cores). Para a gravação direta é necessário um processador 80486 com ao menos 40 MHz de clock (melhor 66MHz)
