The Curlies who Care award will be an annual award to be presented in February of each year. This year we wanted to spotlight therapy, and we came up with two
curly teams that stood out.
The curly lovers of NECC give their heart warmed thanks and cheers to Susan and Stephanie for going above and beyond in their work with Curlies as therapy
ambassadors. We would like to present both Curly teams with engraved plaques and certificates as a token of our appreciation.
Therapy work can be some of the most stressful endeavors for a canine team. It means so much for the people you help through difficult times. NECC wants to
thank you for being there.
Susan and Zeus have been visiting Arbor Hospice every week for a year. This is a residential facility for terminally ill people; the majority do not make it more than several days to a month.
Some of the residents they meet only once or twice. In the rare case that someone's illness is prolonged, Susan and Zeus become attached, and it is hard on all when the end comes.
Sometimes a visit consists of Zeus giving kisses or performing tricks. Other times he just is Zeus, and lets the residents hug him and whisper their secrets into his curls.
Charger and Steff have been doing Therapy dog visits for 6 years. They visit San Diego Rehabilitation on the Stroke and Brain Injury floor, Children's Hospital, Convalescent Hospitals and are currently visiting Sharp Chula Vista on the Oncology floor. Chargers visits brighten a child's day and sometimes help them forget for a short time they are sick. Steff has also done therapy dog work with Flint, Nellie, Ariel, Dazzle, PC and Hannah
