Alberta. Canada. Scully didn't have anything against Canada, it just happened that she was a member of the FBI and the FBI didn't, couldn't investigate in anywhere but the United States. So she really had no reason to be out here, crammed in a hot car, driving to some unknown destination. But then again, she wasn't the one in the driver's seat. "Mulder, what exactly are we doing here?" Fox Mulder looked over to his partner, grinning. He knew it bothered the hell out of her that he wouldn't tell her where they were going, in which he was drowning in pleasure. They had been partners a long time, longer than most marriages and in all that time it never seized to amaze him how much he could annoy her with absolute pleasure and her still not kill him. Mulder knew he was out of his jurisdiction but most of the time he was anyways. He was the law-bender and Scully the enforcer but he still wasn't telling her. "If I told you, it'd take all the fun out of it." Mulder grinned, she was starting to lose patience. "Mulder, it's a hot summer day outside and we're stuck in this car, driving past cows and farms. I realize we haven't been in here long but we just got off a plane, so could you tell me how long this trip will take, at least?" Just then Mulder turned off the main highway and started driving on a dirt road towards a farm building. "Mulder, if this has to do with cow mutilations, I'm leaving." Mulder pulled up to the building, turning off the car and quickly jumped out of the car. Before Scully had a chance to even open her car door, Mulder was pulling open for her. She shot him a strange look. He only grinned and grabbed their bags from the back, when Scully tried to grab her own, Mulder simply shook his head and picked them up himself. Scully followed Mulder into the building. It was old, probably an abandoned farm that no one had bothered to buy and fix up. She was quite shocked when she entered the building. Although on the outside it was run down with the windows boarded up, the inside was a completely different story. It was a state of the art office with more than twenty desks set up and even more people running around. The desks themselves had all the modern technology, telephones, computers and if wasn't there, it was in another part of the building. Definitely not what you'd expect inside a farm building. Mulder was walking towards what looked like the admissions desk, he leaned over and whispered in her ear, "Just follow my lead." "Mulder, what is..." The look he gave her shut her up quick. A woman sitting at a lavish oak desk, behind her a busy switchboard. She smiled up at them. "Can I have your names please." "Fox and Dana Mulder," Mulder replied, sensing Scully's quick tensing, he just turned and smiled at her. The woman's smile expanded as she checked her guest book, her voice full of excessive happiness. "Welcome to The Love Resort, you'll be staying in cabin 243, located on A Walk in the Clouds. Enjoy your stay dinner is served at 6:00 exactly." The smile never wavering as she pressed a button bringing out a young bellhop. "Welcome to The Love Resort, I'll take your bags and car keys." The young man told them, his demeanor mirroring the woman's. Mulder diligently handed over his car keys, knowing why they were taking them and also handed over the bags. Mulder and Scully followed the bellhop out the back door to where a limo was awaiting them. Scully stood in shock for a second staring the extremely out of place white limo. Mulder seeing the bellhop's haste, wrapped his arm around Scully, a move he knew he'd suffer for later, a pulled her into the limo. As soon as they entered the limo, Scully was ready for an attack. Mulder shushed her before she could start and closed the window in between the driver and them. "Mulder, what the HELL is going on?" Scully yelled, not caring if anyone heard. "Scully, please don't yell. This is why I didn't tell you in the first place because I knew you'd never come willingly." Scully was a bit put off, "How do you know I wouldn't have come?" "Alright, a friend of mine invited me out here to this resort he and his wife work at that just opened for couples." "The why did he invite you then, if it's for couples?" "Well, him and his wife kinda have this thing, you see, they think that we, are um, well that..." "We're married!" "Well, no not married but dating." Mulder avoided her eyes by staring out the window. "And why do they think that?" "I, well, you see, they, um. I didn't actually say we were dating, I, they just interpreted it that way. I can't, I, I don't take any blame in this, it's not my fault." Scully could see Mulder was really trying to dig himself out of the hole but she enjoyed watching him squirm. He was obviously embarrassed enough as is, so she decide to let it go. "All right Mulder, it's okay but still wish you had told me, I would have come. God knows I need a vacation." "Well then you might not like this part. I was looking up this place, besides the fact that you have to be invited to come here but it's incredibly secretive, I could hardly find anything out about. That in itself made me suspicious, so I phoned a friend of mine who was also friends with the people who work here and had come here with his wife. He told the whole time he'd felt really strange, he and his wife both acted weird and out of character and he noticed the other guests were acting weird too. He wouldn't go into details but whatever happened here, is staying here, which is what bothers me." "Mulder! He could have been drunk or HAPPY, same goes for anyone else or he could be BSing you. Maybe they thought the only way to get you on a vacation is to make it seem bazaar. I mean he didn't even give you any details Mulder or evidence, God forbid we ever enter a case with evidence." "Scully, I know something's going on here." Before Scully could dispute the "something" her door was opened and the bellhop stood outside offering her his hand. She took it and got out of the limo, Mulder followed. Since they had been so busy talking they hadn't bothered to look out their windows, the site before them was absolutely breath taking. The area was rich with dark Evergreen trees standing high and rows of small little wooden cottages aligned in rows. Behind them there was a deep blue lake, where little sailboats were floating by. The road they were standing on were dirt, but not like you'd find anywhere, they were clean. Moving it around more revealed that it wasn't actually dirt but sand. Behind them the sand road curled up to a massive mansion that stood at four stories high and was elaborately decorated. Several wings led off the main house, an Olympic sized swimming pool in the front and two more could be found in the back. "Yeah Mulder there's definitely something going on here." Scully said sarcastically. The bellhop had already taken in their bags into their cottage, he was now standing behind them. "The spa is located in the southwest wing, the pools as you can see are open at all times, the dining hall is in the main house, you'll find it as soon as you walk in." "The only thing you guys don't have is a golf course." Mulder snorted. "Well, I think Sylvan Lake has enough golf courses." The bellhop replied. "Oh, so this is not the resorts private lake?" Scully asked. "No, this is an actual lake, we just own this part of the lake side, this bay. But not to worry, no other boats can enter the bay, we have barriers set up. Well, if that's everything? My name's John by the way, if you need anything just ask." John smiled at them and got back in his limo, driving back to the farm building. "Barriers Scully and they took my car keys, is that not strange?" Mulder questioned Scully as they walked towards their cabin. "Mulder you looked think you knew they were going to take your keys." He nodded. "Well then, stop complaining." "I'm not complia-" Mulder stopped mid-sentence when he opened the door to the cabin. "Whoa." was the only word he could think of. The cabin was lavishly decorated in soft tones of delicate fabrics and paints, obviously extremely expensive. Though it was only one room with a adjoining bathroom, it was huge, even from the doorway. A huge king sized four poster bed sat in the center of the room. Two French doors led outside to a patio looking out to the lake. "Hey Scully remember when we were on that stakeout in that gated community and we had to pretend to be husband and wife?" Scully nodded, knowing where this was going. "Well, you never let me carry you over the threshold, so I'm thinking..." Before Scully could protest, Mulder had picked her up and carried her into the cabin. "Mulder." Scully was trying to be serious and she prayed her tone sounded that way because inside she was laughing her head off. Mulder kicked the door closed, still holding her in his arms, he turned around to look at the room. "One bed, hey?" "Guess you'll be sleeping on the couch." Scully retorted. "Which one, the non-existent one?" He was right the only furniture in the room was a the bed, a small chair Scully doubted she could even sleep in and a table. She didn't really want to discuss sleeping arrangements right now, she was more concerned on putting her feet on the floor. "Alright Mulder, you made your point, you can put me down now." Scully was actually quite content being in his arms, actually she couldn't think of any place else she'd like to be but she knew he was just doing this to bug her. Mulder, who couldn't believe he'd gotten away with this for so long, contemplated putting her down. He had so little moments when he could touch her, that he didn't want to put her down. He never forgot how good she felt in his arms, even when it was just a small hug for comfort, it was an enormous deal to him. But he decided enough was enough and he carefully deposited her on the bed, which as an afterthought was a bad idea. The position made them both uncomfortable or maybe too comfortable, he wasn't sure. Finally after the uncomfortable silence had gone on long enough, Scully told him she was going to take a shower. She made it as far as the doorway before she let out a little gasp, Mulder was beside her in a second. "Scully, what is it?" He asked concerned but then he saw the look on her face. "There's a huge Jacuzzi in here and a steam room! Who's footing the bill for this?" "Actually, lucky for us, my friends offered to. Which means we also can have any of those, what do you call them, spa things." Scully lips parted in huge grin but restricted herself from jumping up and down. "Thank you for bringing me here, Mulder." He smiled at her and allowed her to close the bathroom door. He needed to take a walk, the images of Scully showering five feet from him would most definitely drive him mad. He yelled through the door that he was going out but he doubted she could hear him through her singing. ______________________________________________________________________ Cabin 122 1:01 PM "Not bad." Toni Brigatti commented as she walked into the cabin, glancing around, thankful she wasn't paying for it. Though the fact that there was only the bed to sleep on, was a problem, she'd deal with it later. "Excuse me, Miss Kidnapper but do you think you could let me inside?" Gary Hobson asked, pushing his way into the cabin. "Hobson, I did not kidnap you." "Oh yeah, than what was with the gun?" "Listen, it's not my fault that someone on that boat you snuck onto, saw us." "Well, it's not my fault I had to pretend to be your husband so you could catch a jewel thief." "You were wearing the name tag." Gary wanted to retain some sort of peace or it would be suspected they weren't really a married couple. "Alright, run this by me again, why are we here?" "The woman that owns this place, saw us on that boat, thus thinking we were married. I ran into her a few days ago and she insisted that we come up to this resort for a vacation. I tried to explain what the truth was, but she wouldn't give me the chance and before I knew it we were signed up here." Brigatti didn't like admitting she couldn't get out of the situation and even less that the only reason they were here was for a vacation they couldn't get out of. "Alright, but next time let me do the talking." "Oh yeah, you're great at handling situations." Brigatti said sarcastically as she entered the bathroom, closing him off. She glanced around the bathroom, impressed, but that wasn't really what was on her mind, it was on the person outside the door. She liked him well enough or at least that was all she would admit to. She didn't have relationships, she worked, she was a cop first and last and no way was she willing to change any of that. Brigatti had gotten used to the loneliness, the utter stab of jealousy when she saw other people in love and her long ago fantasies of falling in love. She ignored the giant flips of her stomach whenever Gary accidentally touched her and the that the kiss they had once shared, had tasted way to good. Oh that kiss, although was only supposed to be fake, to convince others they were married, Brigatti had never felt anything less fake in her life. She couldn't remember the last time she'd felt that good or that happy but of course she'd stopped it. Actually she'd kicked him, in an effort to retain some of her dignity. Brigatti climbed into the shower refusing to think about it anymore and hoped Gary hadn't noticed that she'd accidentally left the door a tiny bit open. He had. Gary's eyes were trained to the open crack in the doorway, though he could barely see anything, it was the mere fact that he might be able to, that stirred him inside. He turned his head away, the images in his head overpowering his functioning brain. It wasn't he fantasized about Brigatti...a lot, only whenever she either wasn't there or was actually being sweet. The rest of the time she drove him absolutely insane, which deep down he had to admit, he loved. There were to sides to their so-called relationship, one was as arch enemies with both sides fighting to kill each other, the other was, well, Gary didn't know how to describe it, he wasn't sure it was quite love but something very close. Gary slammed back into the bed, putting his hands to his face. If he didn't stop thinking about her, this trip was going to be astronomically hard. He decided to think of something else, the paper. He couldn't believe that he, the guy who got tomorrow's newspaper today, had left it in the control of a guy who had just barely graduated from high school. Sure he trusted Pacey, he was a good guy and a good friend, but responsibility wasn't one of his strong suits. Gary didn't have a choice, when Brigatti had showed and demanded they leave right then and Pacey had shown up just in time, he'd had to give it him. Pacey already knew about the paper, which was the only reason Gary gave it to him to take care of. He hoped Marrisa would be able to keep him in line, otherwise all of Chicago was in huge trouble. ______________________________________________________________________ Chicago 1:13 PM "Two down, three to go." Pacey Witter said to himself, as he walked down one of Chicago's main streets, paper in hand. He had already prevented an old man from being hit by a truck and had saved a little girl from falling into the polar bear area at the zoo. Up next was an explosion at a gas station from someone lighting a cigarette, where it clearly said not to. Then a small car crash and to finish up the day with a bar fight. So far he hadn't had any problems but he could see why Gary hated the paper so much, it was a lot of responsibility. Pacey just hoped he could get through this without anyone dying, as that was what he was trying to prevent. ______________________________________________________________________ The Love Resort 1:21 PM Mulder had walked the length of the sand road, all the way down to the entrance, which was blocked off by a twenty foot high gate and two guards. As far as Mulder could tell the large gate encircled the entire compound. At a glance, though, you wouldn't be able to see the gate, as almost every inch of it was covered with lush, Evergreens. This deceptive gardening, was supposed to make it look less like a prison but Mulder knew otherwise. Though, if was going to be stuck in a prison, he couldn't think of anyone else he'd like to spend it in, than Scully. Mulder was about to head back to the cabin when spotted a woman running towards him, it didn't take him long to recognize her. "Fox Mulder, why didn't come say hi to me when you got here?" She wrapped her arms around his neck, giving him a quick squeeze and a peck on the cheek. "Kristen, hi, actually I just got here, thought I'd look around." "Isn't it beautiful, Rich and I love it here, we couldn't even think of living somewhere else." Kristen led him towards the main house, where Rich was sitting outside by the pool. He stood up when he saw them approaching. "Mulder, how are you?" Rich asked, as the two men hugged. "I'm good thanks, it's truly gorgeous out here. What do you guys do out here?" "You mean besides relax and have fun?" Rich wrapped an arm around Kristen's waist. "Well, Kris is the interior decorator, she design's every inch of the inside of this place, including the cabins." Rich said proudly, kissing his wife on the cheek. "Wow, I'm impressed." Mulder smiled at his friends, his suspicions dissipating. "So where is this lovely woman, Scully?" Kristen asked anxious to meet the woman who had captured Mulder's heart. "Um, she's-" Mulder turned to see Scully walking towards them but instead of her normal professional suit, she was wearing a flowing summer dress, revealing more than Mulder needed to think about. His heart caught in his throat at the sight of her and he hoped no one heard his slight gasp. Kristen and Rich had seen his reaction to the woman, they knew could only be Scully. When Scully approached them, Kristen offered her hand and a bright smile. "I assume from Mulder's reaction that you're Dana Scully?" Scully gave Mulder a confused look, 'what reaction' she wanted to ask but instead shook the woman's hand. "Yes, that's me." "I'm Kristen Ryan and this is my husband Rich. I have heard so many wonderful things about you." Scully once again wondered what again what that meant but there was no way she would ever have the courage to ask. "It's nice to meet you, I never been to a place more beautiful. I visited your boutique, I thought Mulder was taking me on a case, so I didn't have any appropriate clothes." Mulder knew he was staring at Scully but he couldn't help it, she truly looked so beautiful. It wasn't the first time he'd thought of her that way but usually she looked so conservative and professional, this was completely different. Kristen, who had noticed Mulder's intense stare, thought it best to let them go. "Yes, it is beautiful. Later, if you want to find a dress for tonight's dinner, I'll take you to our more exquisite shop." Scully nodded, cautiously. "My treat, of course." Kristen added, understanding. "No, that's really all right, I-" "Nope, no arguments. I'll pick you up at four." Rich quickly kicked Mulder in the shin, in an attempt to get him back to reality. Mulder responded with a cough and said good-bye and when he received a strange glance from Kris, he wrapped his arm around Scully as they walked back to the cabin. Once in the cabin, the arm dropped, to both of their disappointment. Scully sat down in the small chair, as Mulder opened his suitcase and started looking for something. "They seem nice, you do you know them?" "Was that supposed to imply that all my friends are usually weird?" Scully didn't say anything, she just grinned, resulting in Mulder throwing one of his shirts at her. "I grew up with Rich, we've been friends for a long time, he knew Samantha." The mention of Mulder's once lost sister, who was now known to be dead, brought a silence and sadness through the room. Scully stood up and walked to Mulder, putting her hand on his shoulder. He smiled at the gesture but his eyes told her that it was unnecessary. Scully saw that he was still trying to find something in his suitcase. "What are you looking for?" "What? Oh, nothing." Mulder shut his suit case and walked towards the bathroom. "I'm going to take a shower." He closed the door, leaving Scully unanswered. She looked at the bag, it would be so wrong to invade his privacy and she'd never even thought of doing it before but something made her suspicious. Maybe it was the fact that he was acting rather strange, which was not uncommon for Mulder but this time it was making her feel funny. She reached for a glass and the pitcher of water, sitting on the small table. She took a long swallow, trying to think of something to do. She decided to read but when she looked around for something to read, there was nothing, then she remembered she had a book in her bag. Unfortunately, her bag was in the bathroom, where Mulder was taking a shower. Scully thought about knocking but figured she could probably just sneak in, grab her book and be out of there before he noticed. She turned the handle of the door, glad it was unlocked, she opened it just a crack, peering in to see if the coast was clear, it was. She squeezed through the small crack in the doorway, not wanting to open the doorway to far. Scully kept her eyes on the floor, causing her to bump into the sink, she prayed he didn't hear. She raised her eye line up, not wanting to bump into anything else but was going to avoid looking at the shower stall, too late. She could only see the outline of his body through the steamed glass door but she could see his head above the door. He had his eyes closed, as water ran down his tanned face. Water that ran down to...'Whoa' Scully needed to get out of here quick before she let her mind wander any further. Just before she reached the door, the water shut off. "Scully, could you hand me a towel?" Mulder's face was in a huge grin at his catch. He'd heard her come in as soon as the door opened but he didn't want to interrupt her obvious spying. Scully kept her eyes glued to the floor as she handed him the towel. "I had to get something." Scully muttered softly. Mulder could see she was embarrassed and decided to be a gentleman but he wouldn't her get away with it completely. He wrapped the towel around his waist and moved closer to her, to which she responded by backing up. He kept moving towards her and she kept moving backwards, her eyes still down. Scully wasn't threatened by him, it was just, well, she didn't know. She kept her eyes down until she suddenly realized what part of his anatomy was where she was looking. Her eyes snapped up to his chest, which was only inches away from her face. His hair was dripping wet, drops of water landing on his muscular shoulders and chest. Mulder wondered if Scully knew her mouth was gaping open wide but didn't say anything. He kept walking towards until she was pushed up against the sink. Then he reached his arm up and around her, to get his brush. Scully, who's heart was beating so loud she thought people across the world could here it, was a bit confused when he reached for his brush. 'Well two can play at that game' she thought to herself, lifting herself up onto the counter, her eyes interlocking with his. She grabbed his brush from his hands, taking a deep breath, 'It's just a game' she reminded herself as she reached out to brush his hair. 'What was she doing?' Mulder thought, shocked, it was not like Scully to do something like that. He then realized she was playing a little game with him, the one he had started. 'Well, I'll be finishing it' he told in her in head. He took the brush from her hands and moved her legs apart, as to get closer. He heard her sharp inhale of surprise an could feel the tension in her hand. He dropped her hand and the brush and raised his hands up to her shoulders and delicately began to massage them. Scully knew this little game of power and weakness was going a little too far but if she gave up now, she'd be the weak one and she definitely wouldn't stand for that. She looked around for a towel, deciding she wasn't about to remove his, she grabbed on off the rack beside and slowly began to dry him off. Realizing only then what a bad idea it was. Her touching him was threatening her control but so was the fact he was rubbing at her muscles. She tried to concentrate on more rational things, to no avail. As soon as Scully had touched him, even with a towel, he knew this had to end. As good as this felt, he knew it was only a game. He didn't want to play games with her, he wanted to be really with her. He dropped his hands and smiled. "Fine, you win." He walked out of the bathroom, leaving Scully alone. She knew it was just a game, what had she expected him to do, carry her to the bed and make love to her? He was probably so disgusted with her, well that was fine, she'd just stay the hell away from him, if she could. ______________________________________________________________________ Cabin 122 5:49 PM Gary looked himself over in the full length mirror and felt deja vu. How long had it been since he was dressed up in a suit, while Brigatti dressed up beautifully, so they could go pretend to be husband and wife. He was about to tell Brigatti to hurry up when he heard the door open. He had forgotten, well maybe not forgotten but at least blocked out, how good she looked in a dress. It was a long black satin dress, with a low cut V-neckline. Her arms were bare, her hair delicately pilled on top of her head and a slit up the side of her dress, that showed just enough leg to make Gary's head spin. "You look beautiful." He told her, trying to sound casual. "Thank you, *Larry Thurston*." Pointedly reminding him of his 'name.' Any kind thoughts and attraction to her, were quickly thrown out the window, as soon as she opened that mouth. "Don't worry, darling, I haven't forgotten the loving name we have." His tone dripping with sarcasm as he offered his arm. Brigatti took it roughly, more for show than anything else. "Just don't get any ideas, Hobson." "Not to worry, the only ideas I have, involves you and a firing squad." ______________________________________________________________________ Cabin 243 5:50 PM Mulder was pacing back and forth, in the confines of the cabin. Scully hadn't said a word to him since the bathroom incident. What had he been thinking, he had started something he knew couldn't finish and now he was positive that Scully was embarrassed. Great, now this would be the worst time ever. He heard Scully come out of the bathroom and turned around to see her and nearly fell over. She looked...beyond words. He struggled to breathe and even more to speak. "Scully, you look so beautiful," his words deeply sincere. Scully tried to hide her blush, he'd never said that to her before but before she could give herself the indulgence, she asked him to do up the back of her dress. Admittedly it was the most cliched thing to do but she honestly couldn't reach it. Mulder's hands shook a bit as he zipped up the dress, part of him wanting to pull the zipper down the opposite way instead. What was wrong with him, this was Scully, his partner, it was just a dress for godsake's. "We're going to be late if we don't hurry up..." Scully reminded him, anxious to get away from the cabin. Mulder grabbed her hand, reminding her they were supposed to be a couple. ______________________________________________________________________ 12:09 AM There was no putting this off any longer, they had to go to bed and there was only one place to sleep, the bed. "I'm going to go to bed." Scully announced after coming out of the washroom. Mulder nodded, taking his cue and grabbing a pillow to sleep on the floor with. "Mulder, you don't have to sleep on the floor. It's no big deal." Her tone as casual as she could make it. "Alright." He sat down next to her on the bed, flicking off the bedside light and took off his pants, so he was only in his boxers and a T-shirt. He carefully got under the covers, careful to stay on his side. Scully lay awake for a long time, taking up only the edge of her bed, her back to him. She'd managed to get her breathing so it sounded as though it were asleep, she knew Mulder had already fallen asleep over an hour ago. At first he'd slept with his back to her, huddled to his side of the bed but as soon as he'd fallen asleep, he'd taken up much of the bed with his hand dangerously close to her leg. Scully was just thinking about getting up and going for a walk, when she felt Mulder's arm grab her around her stomach and pull her towards him. He was obviously asleep, Scully knew Mulder would never do something like this intentionally. Mulder didn't know why he had done it, he'd just woken up and for some reason felt the need to grab whatever was next to him and pull it close to him. It only hit a few seconds later that, that, was Scully. Why he didn't just remove his arm from around her waist and turn back around, he wasn't completely sure. He quite honestly had never known how good it felt to hold Scully is his arms, in a bed. Mulder was sure that Scully was asleep because otherwise she would have knocked him one. He should move his arm and was just about to, when he felt Scully press into him further, so they were spooned together. Scully didn't know why she had done it, it's just that feeling his arm wrapped around her waist and his chest pressed to her back, felt so good, she couldn't resist wanting to be closer. He was asleep anyways, so what harm could cuddling do? When Scully awoke a little while later she was delighted to find herself still cuddled up to him. This time, though, his knees were pressed behind hers and her backside was fitted closely to his abdomen. Somehow, his arm had gotten under her head and now her head was cradled in his shoulder and she could feel his soft breath against her neck. She slowly pulled her arm out from under his grasp, not wanting him to move his arm from around her waist. Mulder had woken when Scully had pulled her arm out from his but then she delicately placed her arm over his, encircling his fingers with hers. He turned his hand up, to grasp her hand, knowing full well she was awake now. Mulder gently leaned his elbow into her side, causing her to lean even more into him. Scully was a bit shocked by the fact that Mulder had turned is hand to grasp hers, it wasn't something an asleep person would do. She turned her head towards him, to see his eyes were open and he was smiling slightly. She smiled back, the exchange proving to each other that this was okay. They fell asleep in each other's arms, never once wondering if this would change their relationship. ______________________________________________________________________ Cabin 122 6:49 AM Gary, on the other hand, had not had such a good sleep. Brigatti had forced him to sleep on the floor and he had been too tired to argue. His back muscles and his neck were painfully sore, he tried ineffectively to rub away the pain. Tonight, he promised himself, he'd sleep on the bed or he was leaving. Unaware to Gary, Brigatti laid on her side, watching him. When she saw the pain he was in from sleeping on the floor, she felt instantly guilty, which was extremely rare. She should have let him sleep on the bed, it was no big deal, she knew he wouldn't try to pull anything, it was her she was worried about. "Hobson, come here." Brigatti said softly. Gary was both surprised at the sound of her voice and the tone. It was kind. He feared for his life as he walked over to the bed, sitting down on it. He nearly fell off the bed from shock when Brigatti started to massage his neck and back. He awaited some sort of smack or brute remark but none came. Brigatti hadn't realized how much she enjoyed touching Gary, that scared her. If she let herself go too far, she'd be regretting it later. "Is this helping?" "Mmmhmm." Gary mumbled, slowly becoming more relaxed under her capable hands. "I won't make you sleep on the floor again tonight." Brigatti told him, her stomach doing a little flip at the thought of sleeping the same bed with Gary. She was acting like a lovesick teenager, it must be the water. The knock at the door, interrupted their intimate exchange. Gary stood up to answer it, he'd forgotten all about the paper, he hoped no one had found the cat and paper. He opened the door, looking down at the ground but no cat or paper just John, the bellhop. "Good-morning, I trust you slept well," John winked at Gary. "I brought you breakfast." John walked into the cabin carrying a large tray of assorted fruits and breads. Gary took another look around the doorway, searching for his paper. "Do you know where I could reach a phone?" Gary asked John, needing to call Pacey and see if he'd received the paper. "I'm sorry, phones are for emergency uses only, we find phones to take away from your vacation, added stress, we don't want." John told them smiling, sounding like an ad campaigner rather than a bellhop. "What if it was an emergency?" "Are you dying?" Gary shook his head, "Then it's not an emergency. Enjoy the rest of your day." ______________________________________________________________________ Chicago 8:59 AM Pacey had expected Gary to call and check up on him, but forgetting about the time difference, he went out on another paper-fun-filled day. Pacey only had one thing to take care of today, a girl jumping off a bridge, which he was pretty sure would take all day. She was seventeen year old, she left no note and the family had no idea why she would do it. But Pacey knew that sometimes the people who hurt the most, were the silent ones. He looked ahead of him at the bridge he started looking around; old woman, a mother and her son, a young women..."DON'T JUMP!!" Pacey yelled at her, without thinking. She turned around to face him, she had dark brown hair, with a tint of red in it, twisted up into a clip. She was wearing simple dark jeans and a black tank top, in short, she was beautiful. "Excuse me?" She glared at Pacey, who was now standing between her and the bridge. Pacey tried his charm, hoping it would work. "I just don't see how a beautiful creature like you, could want to end their life." The women stared at him, dumbfounded. "What the *hell* are you talking about?" "You mean you weren't planning at..." Pacey looked at the paper, "...at nine o'clock this morning to jump off this bridge?" "Do you just assume that every person, who's on a bridge, want's to jump off it?" She was getting annoyed at this stranger, who had interrupted her peaceful moment. Pacey looked around the bridge for another, young woman, there was none. He checked the paper again for which bridge it was, he was standing on the right bridge. "Are you Jade Maida?" She began to back away, fearing for her life, she was just about to turn and run, when she felt a hand lightly touch her arm. Her eyes shot up to the guy standing in front of her, he didn't look frightening, but him knowing her name was just too creepy. "I'm not going to hurt you." Pacey said to her, quietly, seeing the fear in her eyes. "Someone just told me that you were going to..." Pacey looked back down at the paper, something had changed. In the place of the article about the girl jumping off the bridge were the words, "look up." Pacey looked back up, he saw a man, riding a bicycle a little too close to the edge of the railing. Pacey grabbed Jade just in time before the biker rode quickly past them, almost knocking them both off the bridge. If Pacey hadn't done what the message had said, he and this girl would have most likely gone for quite the swim in the depths below. "Asshole." Jade mumbled to the biker, unaware of Pacey's tight grip around her waist. Pacey finally understood what was going on, she hadn't jumped, she'd been accidentally pushed. Pacey kept his grip around her waist, not out of protection, but because she was slightly shaking. Whether it was from the brisk wind, the recent near- death experience or him. "I guess I'm supposed to thank you now." Jade said sarcastically, now fully aware of her own shaking and his arms around her waist. She shook it off as nerves and tried to move away from him, hoping he didn't notice her weakness. "I have a better idea." He said in response to her earlier comment. Pacey dropped his arms from around her and on impulse grabbed her hand lightly. "Where are you taking me?" Jade wasn't really afraid of him but she felt that nagging voice in the back of her head, something that had been put there long ago about never going home with strangers. "My name's Pacey Witter, I think I owe you for disturbing you, so I'd like to take you out to lunch." Pacey looked down at his watch. "Well, breakfast...brunch." Jade almost laughed in spite of herself, but caught herself just in time. She couldn't believe she was actually considering going with this guy, there was just something about him. "Listen, it's a place called Maginty's, my friend owns the place. Public place, so you have nothing to worry about." Pacey didn't understand this incredible need to get to know this girl and he knew he was overstepping a few lines but... "Okay." She surprised him, he hadn't expected her to say yes but then again, neither did she. _______________________________________ Beach 1:45 PM Scully walked towards Mulder who was trying to push a row boat into the water and trying, unsuccessfully, to keep his pants dry. When he saw her approaching, his face expanded into a smile, which seemed be hapening a lot lately. "Alright Mulder, I got your message, what do you want?" Mulder walked over to her, "I thought we'd go for a nice romantic boat ride." Scully raised an eyebrow. When he was closer to her, he whispered, "and test those barriers." Scully sighed, he never did give up. "Mulder, you can go and check those barriers, by yourself." Scully turned and walked away. In one scoop, Mulder had lifted her up, threw her over his shoulder and into the boat. He pushed off quick enough so that she couldn't attempt to escape. "Mulder! You can't just expect me to do what ever you want, and when I refuse, pick me up and take me!" Scully told him angrily. "I'm tired of this crap you pull." Mulder was already paddling out into to the lake. "What crap?" He asked, offended. "You wouldn't even tell me why were coming here, then you throw me in this boat after I said I didn't want to come with you, not to mention yesterday." She hadn't meant for that last part to come out. Now she was considering jumping out of the boat. Mulder stopped rowing, his eyes trained on the floor of the boat. "I'm sorry." he said quietly, in a voice that broke Scully's heart. Scully, seeing his guilt, wanted to drop it, "Never mind, let's just go and see about these barriers. We're here on a case, so let's finish it." Mulder finally brought his eyes up to hers, "This isn't a case Scully, I shouldn't have brought you." Mulder started paddling back to shore. "I'll phone the airline right now and we'll go home right away." Scully reached for the paddles, stopping them from returning. "Mulder, it's okay. I want to stay." She looked him deep in the eyes to re-enforce her words. "Well then, let's go see about this barrier." Once they had reached a line of buoys, a man in a sea-doo and uniform approached them and told them it was best to head back into the shallower waters. There was not only the physical barrier of the buoys but men too. Mulder looked over at Scully as he rowed back into shore, she was deep in thought. He remembered something that the guy who Mulder had rented the boat from had told him. "Scully look down there." She leaned over the side of the boat, trying to see what Mulder was pointing out. Mulder leaned far over the opposite side and quickly to the same side as her. The boat tipped over, throwing both passengers out. Mulder came up to the surface first, awaiting Scully's response but she didn't come up. Mulder felt an arm wrap tightly around his neck and pull him under the water. He opened his eyes under the water, to see Scully staring straight back at him. Mulder thought she would want to kill him right now, but, to his surprise, she was grinning. When they finally rose to the surface, Scully still had her arms around Mulder's neck and his hands held were tightly around her waist. He laid back a bit and kicked his legs, looking for a spot shallow enough to stand on. He made sure that it was still deep enough that Scully couldn't touch. "Mulder, I can't touch." Scully stated. "Don't worry Scully, you can hold onto me." Mulder grinned at her. Scully rolled her eyes, lifting her arms up from around his neck and trying to swim away but Mulder was still holding her tightly around the waist. "Scully, are you trying to go somewhere?" Scully looked back at him. glaring. "I thought we were cuddling, we are supposed to be a couple. " Mulder teased her. "Mulder, unless you want to go chasing halfway down the bay after the boat, I suggest you go get it." The boat, as Scully had said, was floating away. Mulder went after it, while Scully swam into shore to get changed out of her wet clothes. When Mulder returned the boat, the guy who had rented it to him, said, "You know, every time I warn a guy about tipping the dawn boat over, mysteriously it tips over anyways. Strange, eh?" _______________________________ Ballroom 6:24 PM "So how long have you been married?" The question came from Tina Bullock, who not only owned the resort but had started all of it on her own. Brigatti answered, "Almost a year." She smiled at Gary and quickly kissed him on the lips, her smile broadening. This acting like a married was becoming a tad bit too natural for her but she ignored it for the moment. "Please, tell us about your wedding." Tina asked again. They were sitting at a large round table, with two other couples, including Tina and her husband David and a couple from France, who were resort regulars. Gary looked over to Brigatti, hoping for some assistance. She fortunately already seemed to have a story already made up. She told them of an incredibly beautiful wedding, one in which Gary would have loved to have really had. In fact he could picture what she was talking about perfectly, he could even see how beautiful Brigatti looked in her wedding dress...wait, didn't that mean something. If he was picturing her as being his bride, then wouldn't that mean... Gary's thought's were interrupted by the French couple excusing themselves to go dance. Gary, coming back to reality stood and held his hand out to Brigatti. "I think we should join the crowd, excuse us." He smiled to the other couple and walked Brigatti to the dance floor ************** Scully stared down at her dress, she'd borrowed it from Kristen and had caught Mulder staring at her more than once. 'He's probably looking at someone behind me' Scully thought to herself. Mulder was deep in thought when he heard a song come on and without words he took Scully's hand and lead her to the dance floor. ************* The song came over the speakers, filling the room with the slow beats of the song. Sittin' on the beach the island king of love deep in fijian seas deep in some blissful dream where the goddess finally sleeps in the lap of her lover subdued in all her rage and I am aglow with the taste of the demons driven out and happily replaced with the presence of real love the only one who saves Brigatti slipped her arm up to Gary's shoulder, her other hand still held in his. His other hand wound around her waist, pulling her close to his body. Her head rested on his shoulder, drawing him even closer. On the other side of the room, Mulder pulled Scully in close, not allowing any casual touches to go first. Her arms happily wrapped tightly around his neck, pulling him closer to her height. I wanna dance with you I see a world where people live and die with grace the karmic ocean dried and leave no trace I wanna dance with you I see a sky full of the stars that change our minds and lead us back to a world we would not face Brigatti smelled so good, he never smelt anything like it before but then again, Brigatti wasn't like anything he'd known before. Gary thought back to when he had met her, she'd been assigned to protect him. She had annoyed the helllll out of him, as he was sure he'd done to her. Gary hadn't realized how much they were alike till later. They both used their jobs as excuses to get into relationships with people. He wasn't sure why such closeness scared her but he knew his came from his divorce, which had hit him hard. Even though Brigatti was tough as nails most of the time, there were times that Gary saw through her act, the times were becoming more frequent. He needed to talk to her, he needed...he wasn't sure, but this charade they constantly put up was wearing on him. the stillness in your eyes convinces me that I I don't know a thing and I been around the world and I've tasted all the wines a half billion times came sickened to your shores you show me what this life is for Scully thought back to the last time her and Mulder had danced. It was a long time ago, at a Cher concert but the feeling was completely different. Though the attraction she had for Mulder was the same back then as it was now, this time seemed so much more...intimate. The people around them seemed to fade out as Scully danced closer and closer to Mulder. The less space between them, the less Scully's brain functioned. There was no way to describe what she felt for him, she knew somewhere in the back of her brain that it was love but she still wasn't ready to accept that fully yet. She wasn't ready to love a man, that didn't love her back. I wanna dance with you I see a world where people live and die with grace the karmic ocean dried up and leave no trace I wanna dance with you I see a sky full of the stars that change our minds and lead us back to a world we would not face His hand on her back was slowly pulling her into him and the closeness was causing Brigatti to get a little light-headed. She couldn't understand it, she never got this way, about anything. Brigatti didn't know how to describe it and she feared that if she thought about it too much, she might actually realize what it truly was. It was a possibility she couldn't handle. She tried to rationalize things. Sure, she could have gotten out of going to this resort but she really wanted a vacation and how could she possibly pass up a chance like this. And yes, she didn't really have to bring Gary and maybe there was a small part of her that, kind of, liked the guy. But, in no way was she trying to recreate the small time they had spent together as a married couple, even though she had sort of enjoyed it....she had to stop this. She was here on a vacation and as payment she had to pretend to be Hobson's wife. Brigatti had almost conquered her foreign emotions when she felt Gary lean his head in and his soft breath on her neck. That alone almost did her in. Gary whispered into her ear, so softly he could barely be heard, "I want to get out of here." He pulled his face away from hers to look her in the eye, to convey his true meaning of the words. Brigatti looked back at him, mirroring his eyes, he got his answer and they headed for the door. Not wanting to lose their closeness, Gary wrapped his arm around her, as she wrapped her's around his waist. in this altered state full of some much pain and rage you know we got to find a way to let it go sitting' on the beach the island king of love deep fijian seas deep in the heart of it all, where the goddess finally sleeps after econs of war and lifetimes she smilin' and free, nothing left but a cracking voice and a song, oh lord Mulder was losing it. He'd started something insanely stupid and now he didn't know how to fix it. Mulder had brought Scully to a couples resort and what did he expect to happen? Of course they were both under the pretences of this being an "X-file" but deep down Mulder knew it wasn't that at all. He'd wanted to pretend that Scully and he were in love and that they really did kiss and hug and do other couple stuff. He spent so much of his time wishing he could touch her, in some form and now he was using this "case" as an excuse. Mulder was using Scully and he would never be able to forgive himself. I wanna dance with you I see a world where people live and die with grace the karmic ocean dried up and leave no trace I wanna dance with you I see a sky full of the stars that change our minds and lead us back to a world we would not face we would not face we would not face we would not face we would not face we would not face ********************** Gary and Toni had practically run to the cabin and when Gary slammed his back against the door to close it, they were both slightly out of breath and grinning. Their passion distracted them from all their uncertainties, fears and rational thoughts. They stood there staring at each other, less than a foot of space between them, neither one of them knew who made the first move but suddenly they were together, kissing passionately. The kiss was hot and rapid, both trying to take all they could of each other, for fear they might never get the chance again. His hands twisted in her hair, her's ran up and down his back, their tongues mingled with each other, exploring the depths of their mouths. Gary's lips dropped to her neck, moving behind her ear, his tongue flicked out to nip at her ear. Toni barely managed to contain a sigh in reaction to his actions. She touched his hair, to assure herself this was really happening, it wasn't just another dream. As Gary lowered his head, leaving soft kisses on Toni's neck, he felt something trying to poke at his brain. Reality. Not baring to stop what he was doing, his words came out short and separate, each followed by a kiss, "Toni...we...need...to...um,...talk. His lips returned to hers, contradicting what he had just said. Gary's words were slow to register in Toni's brain, not to mention his actions were distracting her from thinking. She had to force her hands up to his shoulders to push him away a bit, "You're right, I think we need to sit down and talk." Gary took her hand and led her over to the bed, sitting a fair distance away from each other but their hands still conjoined. Gary started first, "I don't know what's going on here but..." Gary searched her eyes for reassurance. "...but, I, I think it's good." After Toni didn't say anything, he finished with, "but that's just me." Brigatti stood up, reality finally setting in, "Gary I, Hobson it's just that..." Gary understood, "Hey, it's okay, we don't have to deal with this now." Brigatti's cool composure back, she announced she was taking a shower, where she could seek shelter from her alien emotions. _____________________________________ Chicago 9:02 PM "...and that's when I found out it had been my brother who had set me up." "Ouch! Your brother's kind of evil." Pacey laughed. He and Jade had been sitting in Maginty's since they had come in for dinner three hours ago. Before that Jade had taken him on a tour of Chicago. It was a short one but he really hadn't been paying attention to the scenery, he was concentrated on Jade. Even though she was still young, she was more mature than anyone he'd ever met, well, with one exception. And unlike most of his friends, she didn't take things to seriously, she wasn't your typical melo-dramatic teen-anger. She laughed all the time and she had a great one with an incredible smile to accompany it. "Pacey...hello?" Jade waved her hand in front of his face, bringing him out of his revere. "Sorry, what?" "You kind of zoned out there. Penny for your thoughts?" "I don't know, I think these, " Pacey tapped his head, "are worth a dollar." "Wow, those must be pretty important thoughts." Jade smiled and tossed a dollar bill up on the table. "Shoot." Pacey grinned, "Well I was just thinking about how unlike you are from everyone else I know." "You know, I get that a lot, I'm not sure whether it's a compliment or an insult." "It's a compliment." "Well then, thank you." Pacey looked down at his watch, it wasn't that late but he had kept her out all day. "Do you have be home soon?" "Nope, my parents are on their annual honeymoon. It's the weirdest thing I've ever heard of. They go off to where they got married, then they go to some secret location where they had their honeymoon." Despite herself, Jade smiled at the romance of it. "Why is it secret?" Pacey thought it was incredible, he'd never heard of it before. "Well you see, my grandma, my dad's mom, is kinda clingy and she hated my mom before she married my dad. My parents knew that she would follow them around on their honeymoon if they told her where they were going so..." Pacey smiled at the thought of an old women chasing around two newlyweds. "You know so far your family sounds kind of..." "Wacky?" Jade said good-naturedly. "Maybe a little bit, but it definitely sounds like a fun family." "Oh, we are. At our family reunions, the cops usually have to come and break up the party. How come you never mention anything about your family?" Pacey cringed, his family were not on the top of his most favorite list. Jade noticed and reached her hand across the table to join his. He smiled at her, she shook her head and whispered, "It's okay." Jade looked around the room, trying to make a decision, "At the risk of sounding cliched, do you think we can get out of here?" Pacey nodded, he knew it wasn't an invitation for sex and that didn't bother him. He took her upstairs to Gary's room, finally for once, without analyzing anything. ____________________________ Cabin 243 9:42 PM Mulder and Scully sat facing each other on the bed, as they had been for the last half hour. "We could play strip poker," Mulder suggested. Scully tossed him glare, "too bad we don't have any cards." Then her eyes lit up, like she had an idea. "I've got it. Now I haven't done it since high school but I don't think that will matter." Mulder stared at Scully with a puzzled look. "Twenty Questions." "Excuse me?" "I ask you a question, then you ask me." Scully explained. "I can ask *any* question?" Mulder said mischievously. Scully was starting to worry that maybe this wasn't such a good idea. "Any question, but I get to start." Mulder nodded his approval. "Alright, who was the first girl you kissed?" "She goes right to the sex questions." "Mulder this is not a sex question." "Well mine will be," he grinned at her. "Amber Hill, under the stairs at school." "Amber, hey, was Bambi busy?" Scully teased him. "You're still jealous about that, sheesh Scully," Scully threw a pillow at him. "Oh, so we're going to play that game." Mulder grabbed the pillow and threw it back at her but Scully caught it and started hitting Mulder with it. He fell back on the bed, with Scully knelling over top of him, he raised his hands in surrender. "You surrender?" Scully asked, her eyes shinning. Mulder started to nod but in a flash move, he had their positions reversed with her lying down on the bed and him over top of her. He grinned at her and she returned it. Without a moments notice, Mulder's mouth descended on her's, a strong, powerful open mouthed kiss, bringing each out of their safe cocoons. Her body arched towards his, as her hands found his neck, running her hand softly up and down it. Mulder responded to the close proximity of her body, his arms supported his weight, fighting the urge to lean into her. And just as soon as it had started, they both pulled away, avoiding each others eyes. Scully quickly stood up and headed to the bathroom, as Mulder went out the front door. _____________________________ Cabin 122 11:51 PM Brigatti had taken a long walk, not to clear her head or sort things out but to think of a plan, a plan to get through the rest of week. She knew she couldn't make Gary sleep on the floor again...well she could but he might not stay that long after and blow her cover. Her cover. She wasn't undercover, she was taking advantage of a woman who thought that her and Hobson were married. Brigatti was using Tina to get a free vacation and Hobson to lie to Tina. She did not feel to great about herself. Back to the plan though, she'd have to live out this week with complete professionalism, she would not let her guard down. There would be no close dancing, no unnecessary physical touching and definitely NO KISSING. Brigatti couldn't believe how far she would have let it gone, if Gary hadn't said anything...no, she wasn't going to think about it. All she was going to do was think about how nice this vacation is going to be and that was it. She caught herself, wasn't she already on vacation? She kept thinking of it in the future tense, why was that? Now about those sleeping arrangements... Gary was ready to do something, he didn't know what but he was going to do it. He was going to have sex with his greatest enemy, and she'd shot him down, again. Why did he keep doing this to himself, he knew the only feelings Antonia Brigatti had towards him was hatred, nothing else. Yet, time and time again he kept setting himself up and now he didn't even have the Paper to distract him. Before it was okay, because he'd get shot down, then he'd go save someone's life, it was easy. But no, not here, where all there was to do in the cabin was sit or...dammit, he really did have a one track mind lately, he'd have to fix that. Gary was out on the patio when he saw Brigatti walk in, he recognized that face, her 'Whatever-you-think-almost-happened-did-not' face. She was cold and hard and Gary knew he would get nowhere with her or maybe not... "Have a nice stroll?" Gary said, half mockingly. "Oh, anything away from you is nice," Brigatti snarled. "It didn't seem that way a few hours ago." Gary knew he was walking on thin ice. "It's just an act Hobson, don't get to cocky." "Well, there was no audience here," Gary motioned around the room. Brigatti struggled to retain her temper. "Well it wasn't like you were doing anything to stop it, in fact, weren't you the one that suggested we leave?" Though this was much better than not talking about it, Gary didn't like where this was headed. "So what, I'm supposed to regulate everything you do?" Brigatti held back a punch and looked at her watch, knowing it was getting late and she desperately wanted to get out of this conversation. "I am not sleeping on the floor." Gary told her, with a little more firmness then he intended. "Fine." "Fine." "Fine." Brigatti went to the bathroom quickly to change into her boxers and tank top. When she came out, Gary was already in the bed, his back to her. She quietly slid into the bed, careful to stay as far to the edge as possible. She heard Gary shift to turn around, then felt his breath on her back as he spoke, "Don't go to bed mad." "What?" "My wife had this rule, that we were never to go to bed mad. And we always followed it and then one night we didn't." Brigatti turned around to face Gary. "And then what happened?" "Well, I'm not married anymore, am I." ******************* Brigatti could feel Gary's leg pressed up against hers, it was light and unintentional but the knowledge of his proximity, had her heart beating hard and quick. She fought the intense urge to press closer to him, instead she slowly tried to move away, in a hope she'd stop thinking this way. The second her leg moved from his contact, she felt as if she had lost one of her own body parts. Why was she thinking about Gary...Hobson, this way, he normally irritated her and at times she found herself wishing he'd be the one to fall off a ledge. It was probably just because she hadn't had a guy this close to her in a long time, but then again, she'd never felt this way before...she was going for a walk, it would help. Just when she was about to stand up, she felt Gary's leg press to her's again, freezing her in her spot. She wouldn't be able to move now, his leg was a lot more pressed up to her then before and if she moved, he might wake up. She lay there still, trying to keep from moving, while desperately trying to fall asleep. Then, she remember a tactic she used to use when she was younger and plagued with insomnia, "99 bottles of beer on the wall". Brigatti was at 12 and almost asleep when she felt Gary's hand on her leg, slowly moving it upwards. She hadn't noticed that he'd changed positions, he was on his side, facing her, while she was lying on her back. The hand was slowly moving up the leg, to her stomach. So slowly she wouldn't even notice it if she wasn't paying such attention. Gary's hand moved across her stomach, wrapping his hand around her pulling her close and lifting up her side so she faced him on her side now. Brigatti kept her eyes shut the entire time, thinking if she appeared sleeping and Gary woke up and realized what he was doing, he wouldn't be embarrassed. He was asleep, there's no way he'd try anything when he was awake, would he? Her question was answered when she felt him slowly stroking her back, then felt his other arm come under her hand, supporting her neck and lifting her head towards him. "Brigatti," She heard him whisper but refused to open her eyes. "Brigatti, I know you're not asleep, you've been squirming around for the past hour." She didn't move. "Toni." That did it, "How dare you, " she tried to get away from his grasp but he had already anticipated that and kept his hold tight. "Hobson, stop it." Her voice was angry, it sounded more sad than anything. Gary released his hand from around her and softly laid it on her cheek. "Toni, I'm not going to hurt you, I promise." Tears were starting to well up in her eyes, despite her fight to keep them back. "Don't make promises you can't keep." "Well, I'm going to do my damnedest to keep that promise." He grazed his lips over hers, feeling her melt under his touch. "I don't want to fight this anymore, I'm tired of fighting." Toni moved her hand up to his face, as if trying to reassure herself he was real, that what was happening was real. "We don't have to act on it right now, I can wait," he told her, stroking away a tear that had slid from her tight hold. She didn't want to wait, how long had she waited, much too long, she decided. Toni moved her lips slowly towards his, savoring the moment of anticipation. She was the one to initiate the kiss, but he deepened it, separating her lips with his tongue. The kiss, a reminder of what had almost happened only hours ago, was different, before it had been out of uncontrollable passion but now it was of love, of admittance. "I love you," it sounded like her voice but she didn't know where it came from. "I love you too," they kissed again, much softer this time but still with the same need as before. "Marry me," Gary decided that he might as well go for broke. "Gary...I don't know, this is..." "Don't answer now, say yes when you're ready." ______________________________ Cabin 243 10:26 PM They were standing on the back porch, looking out onto the lake, hearing the soft crash of water as it hit the shore. Neither were speaking, only lost in their own thoughts about each other. It had been a fairly uneventful day, they had hardly seen each other all day except for at dinner and neither had risked to look at each other. The memories of last night were still fresh in their minds. The kiss had stirred up feelings, deep inside Scully. Feelings she had wanted to hide from and ignore. She had already conquered and realized her emotional feelings for Mulder and had been able to file them neatly away into the back of her brain. The physical feelings were another story altogether. Whenever Mulder touched her, whether it was a just a brush or a soft, sensitive kiss to the forehead, Mulder brought up emotions in her she didn't even think she had. Scully stole a glance at Mulder and caught him looking at her, he quickly looked away. He seemed to be deep in thought, 'probably trying to figure out how to get rid of me,' she thought. He didn't have to worry though, she'd stay as far away from him as she could. Mulder had no idea what to do, had he know the results of this little "vacation" he might not have brought her here, but then again maybe he would have... Here they were, knowing each other for what was getting close to a decade and neither knew how the other felt. Mulder could speculate but he wasn't completely sure but he knew that she didn't return the feelings he had for her. Mulder loved Scully, there was no question in his mind, he couldn't even remember a time when he didn't and it had taken him way too long to realize it. More than ever now, he wanted to tell her, damn the consequences. "Scully," his voice came in a whisper and he thought she might not have heard him, as she didn't turn to face him. "Scully," he tried again, this time taking her elbow and turning her to face him. "I want to talk to you." Scully stared up at him with her big blue eyes, full of fear and hope. She knew what he wanted to talk about and that ultimately he would turn her down, tell her he just wanted to be friends. Still, she held this dim hope that she was wrong about her assumption. Mulder had worked out what he was going to say a million times over but looking down at her, the moonlight bouncing off her delicate features, made his words obsolete. Reaching his hand up, he grazed his fingers across her cheek, moving to behind her head. His other hand cupping her face, bringing it up, closer to him. He slowly moved forward, until there was only an inch worth of space between them, feeling her breath on his chest, hot and heavy. His eyes locked on hers, he bent down and brushed his mouth across hers, barely touching her lips. Pulling back they looked at each other, both trying to read the others mind. Each one asking silently for permission to continue, neither moving, not knowing the others answer. After what seemed like eternity, Scully awkwardly wrapped her arms around Mulder's neck, forcing him to her. She pressed her lips against his, slowly and gently, then slowly opened her mouth, inviting him in. Her hand played with the hair at the base of his neck, her left hand pressed up against his chest, running it down to his tight abs then up to his muscular shoulders. When she breathed in, his scent overwhelmed her, driving her deeper into the kiss. His tongue slid into her mouth, intertwining with hers, deepening the kiss. His left hand twisted in Scully's hair, the other pressed into her back, closing the space between them. He explored her mouth, lost in her scent and her unique taste. His mind memorized every movement she made, the slightest sound escaping from her lips and even the feel of her shirt underneath his hand. Scully took a step back, but rather than pull away, she pulled Mulder with her, backing up into the cabin. Mulder eagerly followed, never stopping the intensity of the kiss. Passion drowned them, they forgot their insecurities and could only concentrate on getting as close to the other as possible. Mulder reached up to the top of Scully's shirt, undoing the first button but then he paused, waiting for a response. Instead of verbal permission, Scully started pulling Mulder's shirt out of his jeans, lifting it up. Mulder released her briefly to lift the shirt off and throw it down on the floor, then he went back to working on her buttons, this time with much more speed. He pulled his lips away, so he could look at her, as he slid open her shirt, then slowly off. His hands rested on her shoulders, his thumbs playing with her bra straps, her hands lay on his chest, exploring it with her fingers. He looked into her eyes, searching for regret, fear and then, permission, they looked back into his with only certainty and joy. To further answer his unspoken question, she pulled him into a deep, passionate kiss and slowly undid the clasp of her bra. Mulder released her from the kiss and carefully, one at a time, slid the straps down her arms, never taking his eyes away from her. He bit back the intense need to take her into his mouth and instead moved his lips to her neck, slowly moving down the left crease in her neck, then moving back up the other side till his lips met hers again. He drew a line with his tongue down the front of her neck, till he was between her breasts. Tenderly, he moved to one of her breasts, kissing every spot lightly, until his lips met her nipple. He enveloped her nipple with his lips, flicking his tongue over it, rhythmically. He felt her body tense then relax, with every movement he made. Scully dropped her head for a second, only to roll it back up when she felt him touch her again. She was desperately trying to hold onto some part of her sanity and was about to loss it, when Mulder moved his mouth up to hers again, as if sensing her feelings. Her hands moved down his flat stomach, reaching for the fly of his jeans, undoing the button. His hands moved quickly to rid himself of his jeans, then returned to Scully to undo hers. Slowly his hands moved from her waist down to the top of her silk panties. Scully put her hands on top of his, forcing them to pull off her last remaining barrier. Soon after, Mulder's boxer's followed the heap of clothes on the floor. He stared intently at her, as she did him, both lost in this new sight. They both had seen each other naked before, but this was different, it was as if they'd never seen such a thing before. It was an altogether new and wonderful experience. "Do you want to use something?" Mulder asked. Scully thought about it a moment, there was no risk of pregnancy and it wasn't like either had "gotten any" in recent history, "No." As if the moments they had spoken to each other had taken years, they pulled each other into a tight embrace, their passion growing as the feeling of the bare skin to bare skin registered. Mulder sat down on the bed, pulling Scully down beside him, their lips and hands never missing a beat. His mouth moved from her lips, down to her breasts, then further down, as he lay her back against the bed. His tongue moved across her stomach, into her belly button, leaving behind reddened skin from the intense feelings. His tongue darted out when his lips passed her hip, Scully's hips thrusted upward, wanting more. Mulder's fingers played with the sensitive spot behind her knee, as Scully's head rolled back and forth in arousal. Then, his lips were there behind her knee, softly biting at the skin, moving back upwards to her inner thigh, a line of delicate kisses left behind. Scully caught him before he moved to the inner-most part of her thigh, bringing his face back up to hers, as she pushed him onto his back. Climbing on top of his thighs, she kissed her way down his stomach, her lips passing over the light hair on his chest, then following the line of hair starting under his navel, stopping just short of him. She smiled mischievously up at Mulder, who threw his head back in anticipation. Quickly, she laid a short kiss to the tip of him, revealing how hard he was. Scully shot her tongue underneath him, sending intense thrills through him. She encircled her lips around him, sucking slowly, lapping her tongue over his tip. Mulder would come in her mouth unless he stopped her, so her grabbed her from under her arms, lifting her up to him. He took her hips in his hands and slowly positioned her on top of him, lower slowly. She was slick with passion, making it easier to slip into her with his slow, gentle thrusts, getting deeper into her every time, until he was completely buried in her. Their bodies finally joined, moving together in a internal rhythm, bringing ecstasy to each other, as they had brought friendship, trust and love, over the last seven years. Finally completing the circle. Before they came, Mulder hoarsely whispered, "Scully, I love you." "I love you too, Mulder." Scully practically screamed as she met her climax. They stayed together, joined for a long time, neither willing to let go of the closeness they had both been searching for, perhaps more than any government conspiracy, aliens or the Truth. _________________________ 9:56 AM They were packed and ready to go, today was their last day at this "Love Resort" and the last day of this freedom. They'd go back to their lives, having to either adapt to this new life they discovered or forget it ever happened.
