(Masaki) Tenchi was a typical high-school student. He spent his summer vacations training in martial arts at a shrine in the mountains run by his grandfather. He had a life, and was a just a normal guy.
That's before his encounter with the demon, of course. And all the strange women that start to fall into his life. And I mean that literally.
The 'demon' that he had run into up in the mountains turned out to be a space pirate named Ryoko, who was marooned on Earth for 700 years. She chose to live with Tenchi and his grandfather, and is extremely fond of teasing him mercilessly.
But this is only the starts of his problems. They quickly multiply when other aliens come to live in his home as well. There is Ayeka and Sasami, princesses of the planet Jurai; Washu, 2000 year old scientist; Mihoshi and Kiyone, a Galaxy Police Officer; and last of all, Ryoko's very own mother!
Oh, yeah. And there's the living spacehip Ryo-ohki.
It's like the Brady Bunch Goes Psycho.
This movie is just plain weird and twisted, but I like it never the less. Most people interpret the movie title as well as the film itself as just a guy trying to regain the normal life he once led.
Yeah. Right.
As the series progresses, more is discovered about Tenchi's past. His relation to the samurai who defeated the Oni (a Japanese demon) seven hundred years ago is just one of the things.
He has incredible Jurai powers. His grandfather is a crown prince. His father is a Peeping Tom. Things are continuously getting blown up around him.
Yet Tenchi still seems the same honest, genuine person. He remains modeset, still willing to risk his life in order to help those in need
Go figure.
Tenchi has defeated powerful villains, gone to distant planets, and even traveled through time.
Still the same guy.
In addition, the discovery that he has royal Jurai blood in him has only made his desire to lead a normal life even stronger.
