Very briefly, before you go on, I'd like to tell you about the movie "Tenchi Muyo in Love". This was the first I ever saw of Tenchi, and still remains to be my favorite.
It begins when two Galaxy Police detectives (named Mihoshi and Kiyone) are on a routine patrol near Earth. They find out that Galaxy Police headquarters has been blown up by a notorious terrorist named Kain, who has just escaped from a security-tight prison.
Kain possesses a power so strong that he can warp time and space. He looks like this big, twisted, energy-smoke thing. I don't know.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Tenchi starts to fade; quite literally. Thanks to Washu, Tenchi is saved for the moment, but he and his friends see their house disappear and they find themselves sitting in an old deserted ruin.
As the movie continues, they learn that Kain is going to try and kill Tenchi's mother as a way of revenge. Without Tenchi's mother, there will be no Tenchi, so the whole group goes back in time to try and stop it from happening.
It's a weird movie, but a very, very good movie.
