NCAA Rules

An "advisor" is a person who is hired by a player’s parents or legal guardians to provide advice in a particular contract negotiation. Under NCCA rules an advisor cannot negotiate directly with a team and cannot be physically present when negotiations take place. The player is usually in contact with the advisor via telephone during contract negotiations.

An "agent" is a person who represents the player in contract negotiations with the club. The agent is in direct contact with representatives from the team and speaking on behalf of the player and his family. The agent is usually compensated with a percentage of a player’s signing bonus, ranging from 2% to 4% of the total value or can be paid on a hourly basis. A player that hires an agent will become ineligible to play college baseball.
