The Heroes and Villains Who Were Members of the Suicide Squad

He was a longtime member of the Justice League. After a long term problem with the CIA, Atom II faked his death and went after the Micro/Squad, the CIA agents who had been hunting him. In the interim, he loaned his original size-changing belt to Nate Cray, the third Atom.

Derek Tolliver prematurely released him from his containment chamber, and Parasite went on a killing spree, draining all the life force and powers around him. Parasite was stopped by Firestorm, and returned to Belle Reve. Parasite had the ability to absorb the powers, memories and life force of those he comes close to.
Arsenal (real name: Roy Harper)
Speedy was the sidekick to Green Arrow, and was close to his equal at archery. He had a drug problem as a young man, and has worked for the government on occasion since then, fighting the drug problem. He went with the Squad on their mission to Columbia, to kill drug lord Xavier Cujo.

Since then, he has taken the name "Arsenal", and uses more weapons than just a bow and trick arrows.

Superboy Superboy is a clone created out of Superman's DNA, along with human DNA when Project:Cadmus could not crack the Kryptonian code. He was intended to be a replacement for Superman after his "death" at the hands of Doomsday, but he was let loose early by the Newsboy Legion. He possesses "tactile telekinesis" allowing him to fly, and mimic superhuman strength and invulnerability. He worked with the Squad to stop the Silicon Dragons.

Allies

The Atom Project The Atom Project was a top secret military project in the 1960's, charged with studying an alien spacecraft that crashed in America. The metal of this craft was completely resistant to any form of energy attack, and almost invulnerable to physical harm. Convicted (but framed) murderer Nathanial Adam was placed in a capsule made of this metal, and an atomic bomb was set off under it. The metal melded with Adam and "quantum leaped" him into the present. The Atom Project was headed by General Wade Eiling, and the chief scientist was Dr Megala. The test subjects became known as Captain Atom and Major Force.
Babylon (no other name known)
Babylon was Dr Megala's assistant/bodyguard on the Atom Project. He is a trained fighter and a highly intelligent scientist. He, along with Dr Megala, was kidnapped by Kobra during the Janus directive.

Lashina/Duchess kidnapped her so that she could use Barda's Beta Club to Boom Tube them to Apokolips. Barda is one of the strongest Apokoliptians, and is very resistant to injury. She is also well trained in hand to hand combat. She wears a suit of scale armor to augment her own natural invulnerability and weilds an Apokoliptian Beta Club, which can produce power energy blasts, allow the wielder to fly, and open Boom Tubes (interdimensional tunnels).
Big Bear Big Bear is one of the Forever People, a clique of young New Gods of New Genesis. Big Bear has the ability to increase his density, amplifying his already great strength and resistance to harm. Black Thorn worked with and against Checkmate, eventually becoming their ally, though she never got along with Amanda Waller. She worked with Checkmate during the Janus Directive and is (as far as I know) still active. She is an excellent hand-to-hand combattant and well-trained at espionage. She traditionally carries a custom made pistol that fires "thorns" covered with different types of poison.

The Atom Project took advantage of his new powers, and created a fictional heroic history for "Captain Atom." He remained a government agent for a time, but quit to become a super-hero full time. He has been the leader of Justice League Europe and Extreme Justice. He also had a brief fling with Nightshade. Captain Atom has all of the training of an Air Force pilot/commando, as well as the phenominal quantum powers (invulnerability, flight, super-strength, energy blasts). He encountered the Squad on the mission to the Manhunter Temple, and (with Firestorm's help), saved them from destruction. He later encountered them when the Justice League and Suicide Squad butted heads.

After the Janus Directive, the President split off Checkmate from Task Force X, and made it an independant (from Waller) agency, reporting to Sarge Steel. Harry Stein was the "King" of Checkmate, and Waller was the "Queen". The high level administrators (such as Harvey Bullock) were known as "Bishops." The field agents were known as Knights, and wore identical (at first) "super-hero" costumes, creating the impression that a single superhero was behind Checkmate's activities. Rooks were the operations managers, and Pawns provided support to the Knights and Rooks.
Dybbuk (aka: "Lenny")
Dybbuk is an artifical intelligence created accidentally by Israeli computer scientists. He is a member of the Hayoth, an Israeli super-team. Dybbuk can possess machinery and control it. Firestorm (real name: Ronnie Raymond/Martin Stein/Mikhail Arkadin)
A nuclear accident gave high school student and physcist Martin Stein the ability to fuse into a super powered composite being "Firestorm". When Martin Stein was dying of a brain tumor, they decided to force the US and USSR to disarm their nuclear weapons. Captain Atom, the Squad and the JLI were called in to stop him. An attack by the Soviet metahuman "Pozhar", and a nuclear missile resulted in Raymond and Pozhar becoming a new Firestorm, with an independant personality. This personality was duped into working for the Manhunters, and encountered the Squad then. Firestorm later learned he was to be Earth's Fire Elemental, and gained new powers. During the Janus Directive, this incarnation of Firestorm helped the Squad and Checkmate assault Kobra's space arks. Firestorm has the ability to fly, to control fire, and transmute nonliving matter.

Most recently, the Elemental (revealed to be based on Martin Stein) gave Ronnie Raymond his old atomic restructuring powers and left for outer space. This Firestorm was a member of Extreme Justice.

They encounted the Squad when Beautiful Dreamer (a psychic) sensed that they needed a ride to Apokolips to rescue their teammates who had been kidnapped by Lashina/The Duchess.
Note: The Forever People had a mini-series in which it was revealed they had grown up. In fighting an agent of the Lords of Chaos, they learned they were actually humans saved from death by Highfather and raised on New Genesis. The Squad consulted her about the increasingly difficult to deal with Enchantress. She provided the Squad with a ring and necklace that could harm the Enchantress if she tried to use her powers against the ring-bearers' wishes.
Major Force After the Captain Atom experiment, the Atom Project tried a second time to use the alien "Silver Shield" metal. Unlike Captain Atom, Major Force was a cold blooded killer, who became a threat barely controllable by the Atom Project. During the Janus Directive, Major Force was used by the Atom Project first to strike back at Checkmate and the Suicide Squad, then against the real foe: Kobra. Major Force possesses superhuman strength, resistance to harm, and the ability to create a black "dark matter" which he can use for various purposes.
