A run of bad luck (culminating in his capture by Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys - 3 children without any powers or training) landed him in prison. He was inducted into the Squad, and had a lackluster career there. He also was haunted by Finlay's ghost. Eventually, Finlay convinced Light that he was such a loser as a villain beause he was meant to be a hero. With a new heroic attitude, Light charged into battle on Apokolips, and was killed immediately by parademons. Light and Finlay appeared in Hell, in front of the Demon Biff O Stoffles. Mister biff toyed with their souls for a time (Light and Finlay died about 3 times each), and eventually allowed Dr Light to have another chance. Since then, he has faced Green Lantern, and had his powers transfered from the suit to him and amplified. Stalniolvolk (Real Name: Stalniolvolk)
For the last several years, Stalniolvolk (the only name he answers to anymore) has been doing "enforcement for hire" for the Russian mafia. However, he finally got tired of kissing the ass of a person whom he feels is unworthy and went looking for better horizons.
As for his powers: his skin is as hard to damage as battleship armor. He weighs just over 400 pounds, and he is strong enough to bench press a fully loaded pickup truck (somewhere around the four ton range). He can bounce bullets (though heavier calibers can bruise him). He is an untrained hand-to-hand fighter (frankly, he's never had to learn), and disdains the use of guns. He has many of the "subsidiary abilities" of superhuman strength, such as the power to leap great distances.
The other side of his powers is this: although he looks like a man in his early 50's, he is actually close to 90 years old. He ages, but at a much slower rate than normal. He has fond memories of his work under the command of Comrade Stalin. And now, he is looking for challenges.

He gave up the suit for a while, and the name and costume fell to a guy named Dave Winston. Winston was killed by the Peacemaker and Chase got the suit and name back. As skilled as Adrian Chase was, he was not a doctor, so Winston might not have been dead. Adrian Chase was killed after a long train ride to Washington. Five or ten years went by without a Vigilante. During one of Deathstroke's visits to Gotham city a Gotham police detective briefly became Vigilante.
