Chapter Seven

“Nick, wait up!” Brian yelled down the stage entrance hallway. Nick turned with a sigh and waited for Brian to catch up before continuing on his way towards the costume dressing room to get out of the final song’s getup and into some comfortable clothes to get back on the bus. “How’s it going. You seemed distracted tonight.” Brian asked.

“That’s cause I am Bri,” Nick started. “I don’t know what to do about Mackenzie anymore. She’s been acting weird for a while now and every time I hold her she acts like she’s in immense pain. I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve tried asking her what’s wrong, I’ve tried asking her mother if anything is up…Nothing is working.”

“Did you already ask her ‘the question’ Nick?”

“Not yet, I’m planning it though, just relax.”

Brian was quiet for a second. “You don’t think that she’s…well, you know…pregnant do you?”

Nick thought for a second. “I don’t think so,” he said with uncertainty.

“That might explain a lot,” Brian said softly. “Try asking her. Not flat out; but definitely so that you will figure it out.”

Nick was blushing a bit. “Bri, Mackenzie isn’t pregnant. She would tell me. I know she would. It has to be something else.”

“The only way that you are going to find out any information is to ask her. Trust me Nick, it’ll help a lot.”

“Nick, I’d tell you. Trust me.” Mackenzie said reassuringly.

Nick felt stupid. “Then what’s going on. You’ve been acting differently lately and I don’t get it,” he said.

“I’ve just got a lot on my mind from touring and stuff. It’s no big deal.”

Hours later while Mackenzie was sleeping curled up in Nick’s protective arms, Nick stared out the window into the darkness as the bus drove on from Houston Texas to Tulsa Oklahoma. “If you’re not pregnant Mackenzie, then what’s wrong with you?” he asked himself as he smoothed out the hair that fell around Mackenzie’s face. He stared down at her and smiled at her immense beauty. “I love you Mac,” he whispered, closing his eyes and drifting off.
