I watched as Todd turned up the volume to the stereo system, again. Alley was next to him again. I looked at my watch once again, it was almost nine PM. Where could Ronna be? Alley jumped down from the couch and wandered off somewhere else. Then I heard a ring. Todd got up and answered it. I heard him buzz someone in, I was praying that it was Ronna and Mannie. Todd came back.

“You can get up now,” He told me.

I got out of the chair and followed him to the front door. I saw Mannie and Ronna there. Ronna and Todd disappeared in to the living room. I looked at Mannie, something wasn’t right about him. Then it hit me.

“Mannie,” I whispered, “Are you stoned?”

I got my answer when he started laughing. I led him a little farther a way so Todd couldn’t hear us. Then I went back towards the front door. I watched Mannie from the corner off my eye. He was looking strangely at Alley. But at this point of the night, I really didn’t want to know.

“Come on let’s get out of here,” Ronna said to me as she came towards the door.

I went and got Mannie.

“He’s not driving, is he?” I asked Ronna.

She didn’t answer me, it seemed like she wanted to get out of Todd’s apartment more than I did.

When we got outside of the apartment, I turned to Ronna and asked,

“What took you so long? What happened to Mannie?”

“It’s a long story,” Ronna told me, dismissivly.

A long story? Thats what I got out of it, thats just great.

“What’s the deal with all the pages?” Ronna asked me as we got in to the car.

“He asked me to,” I said, which was the truth.

“You are such a wimp,” Ronna told me before starting the car.

The End. Look for the sequel, The Rave.
