Kayla's personality is very complex because of the huge shock and memory loss she experiences each time she undergoes Resurrection.
As a child, she was sweet-natured and friendly. This did not last long because she was killed by her creator at nine years old. When she was resurrected, she had no memories of any of her childhood.
The death of her grandmother made her angry and vengeful, and started her hatred for Von Reichter. Since she had lived in isolation for most of her life, she did not interact with people often. Her training in Japan made her very confident and skilled in battle, therefore she did not fear fighting; whether she was fighting Von Reicher's creatures, or, more often, human gang leaders. Living in New York City, Kayla became cold, defensive and blunt. She put up these feelings to hide her vulnerability, and that she could be kind and shy. She had no emotional ties to anything since she was always on the move, and she was incredibly good at adapting to new environments. Her constant fear of being discovered by Von Reichter made her very paranoid and distrustful. Kayla did not trust anyone, especially men.
During the events of Resurrection, Kayla became completely different. She was very vulnerable and aware that she was not complete. She resented her sister for bringing her back so useless and fractured and she was very disgusted with herself. She severed all ties with her old life and became very sociable and friendly. She was still very shy, kind and blunt, but she was not as anti-social as before. She became passive, hating to fight unless strongly provoked. Her predatorial instincts make her naturally distrustful, but not to such extremities as before. Her memory flashbacks made her confused and disoriented and weak at decision-making. However, her friendship with Midnight Five and eventual forgiveness of Cybersix helped her to become more human and compassionate.
Kayla claims she does not like children, but the truth is, she has a HUGE soft spot for them. This is why she gets along with Julian so well. However, she does not share the same common sense Cybersix does, and will bring along Julian during fights, "as long as he behaves himself," much to Cybersix's dismay.
Cybersix: Cybersix is Kayla's sister. She loves her even if they have occasional disagreements. Before Resurrection, Kayla felt that Cybersix was too protective. After she ran away, she often felt that her own sister was a complete stranger and did not speak often with them. Her distrustful nature makes it difficult for the two sisters to heal their wounds.
Data 7: Kayla respects the big cat . Data 7 does not trust the girl because she once shot him with a tranquilizer dart as a misunderstanding. However, he pities her confusion and he helps her fight.
Lucas: Kayla knows that Cybersix is crazy about this man. She herself is indifferent to him. Lucas is wary and unsure of Kayla, but because she is Cybersix's sister, he acts completely civil to her.
Julian:Julian was the first person in the city to show compassion to her. As a result, Kayla and Julian are fast friends, one of the few friends in the city that she has.
Lori: Kayla has not met Lori yet. Lori however, did assist in Kayla's "rebirth"
Jose: Kayla has met Jose a couple of times during fights. Kayla thought that he was nothing but a little kid who has no idea what he's doing. Surprisingly, she underestimates him, and he used this to his advantage...
Von Reichter: She hated him with a fiery passion- much more than Cybersix. She stopped at nothing to kill him, and will not let anyone get in her way of doing so. But her fear of being discovered stopped her each time from making the final move. After Resurrection, she became afraid of the man and his capability. She does not hate him because she doesn't know him, but she has heard much about him.
Mark Clarke's Midnight Five: Midnight Five was Kayla's first friend after she ran away, and she cared deeply for the man. They shared a relationship of friendship, empathy, and respect. Midnight Five, being of the second cyber series, could understand her anguish at losing her memories. When he died, she grieved strongly.
SyberKat's Stryk12: Before Resurrection: Kayla encoutered the angry teenager in a bad mood and the two fought. However, they were similar in personalities and if given time, they would make an impressive team. They have not met since Kayla's memory loss and it is uncertain how Stryk12 would react. Perhaps their personalities would compliment each other's, perhaps not. It is uncertain.
Bethany: Actually they have only met once (see Part 5 of The Stranger): During their fighting, Cybersix and Kayla unintentionally crash in on Bethany's parents' dinner party. Bethany is, at least, grateful to avoid another dull dinner party. (^_^)
Ptrix's Lt. Kaji: Just as Cybersix had a brush with Yashimoto, Kayla has a similar experience with his cousin, the Lieutenant Kaji. Kaji was investigating at Von Reichter and approached Kayla, seeking information on Cybersix. Kayla, afraid that the man was after her sister, gave him misleading facts.
Cyber Poet's Kiara: While Kayla has never met Kiara, Kiara has certainly met her: she was the sole human witness of the mass killings of the cyber. When Von Reichter began killing his associates, the young girl was also put to death. Kiara came back, eventually, more powerful than before. Kiara likes Kayla, extremely, but the vulnerable cyber thinks that Kiara is working for Von Reichter, and usually runs away.
