Deer Hunting

White tailed deer Facts

The white-tailed deer is a large, brown animal found throughout Wisconsin. Deer prefer to live near forests and agricultural areas, such as crop fields, because these areas provide food and cover for them. Deer have hooved feet, slender bodies, and long, thin legs. Don't let their skinny legs fool you. Deer are able to run up to 40 miles per hour, jump 9 foot fences, and swim 13 miles per hour. Wow, that's fast!

Length : Body about 6' long, 24-48" high; tail 6-13" long; 90-310 lb.

Habitat : Suburbs, woods, brushy areas, and farmlands.

Range : Across southern Canada and across most of U.S., except far Southwest.

Deer can live up to 11 years in the wild.

CWD

(Chronic wasting Diesease)

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) of mule deer, whitetailed deer, elk (wapiti), and moose. TSEs are caused by unusual infectious agents known as prions. To date, CWD has been found mainly in cervids (members of the deer family).
