Kayleigh looked in the mirror in the bathroom at herself. She blinked, her aloof green eyes, staring into her rather pretty reflection. She sighed, and put her dirty blonde hair behind her ears. She slowly opened the door knob, turning it and pushing on the door, and stepping out into the silent hallway. It reminded her of a library. The blur of the TV made images in her mind, fooling her, haunting her. She walked into the living room, seeing Tony, who had now taken over the bag of chips which sat 1/4 full on his lap.
"Hey" He said.
"Hey" she said back, as she walked past, into her room. "Billy?" It was quiet. The Simple Plan CD droned on and on.

I'm just a kid and my life is a nightmare....

True, she thought as she sat on her pink-clad bed and realized Billy was asleep, snoring peacefully, his skinny arm dangling off the edge, his knuckles just touching the beige carpet. She felt his forehead and sighed, pulling the blanket over his body, making sure he wasn't cold.
"Oh, Billy..." She shook her head. "Next time, turn the CD player off..."
"Yah, no kidding. That stuff's crap" Kayleigh turned around at the sound of Tony's voice.
"I thought you were going to be nice now," Was her comment.
"Well I can't be nice if you listen to crap" He said, walking inside the room. He took the Simple Plan CD out and replaced it with a CD Kayleigh'd never seen before. He saw her face. "Rancid" He told her, pressing play.
"Don't turn it too loud. I don't want to wake Billy up"
"K" He turned it down a bit more.
"K, let's get out now" She said, walking past Tony-glancing back at Billy who was still sound asleep- and out the door. "Wanna watch "Dude Where's My Car?"
"Yeh." He said shrugging. "'S something to do" Although they both liked the movie, they both liked it for different reasons. Tony, simply because he thought it was kinda funny in a really retarded way and Kayleigh because she thought Ashton Kutcher was hot.

~

"Huh?" Two hours later, Billy woke up with a headache. "What kinda loud music is that!?" He listened to it a bit longer. "Actually, I kinda like it..."

~

Billy walked out into the living room to find Tony and his sister watching a movie together.
"Hey, who's CD's on in my room?"
"Rancid" Tony said.
"I like it" Said Billy.
"Sweet" Tony nodded his head like the guys in pimped-out rap-video cars. He looked at his watch. "5:27..." He said. Kayleigh glanced at the time on the DVD player.
"Tony, your watch is an hour behind. It's 6:27." She pointed out.
"Oh." Said Tony. "Well, ok"
"Yah, that's what I thought" Everybody looked at Billy, who turned red and smiled, waving at them. "Yo." He said. "Sup?"
"You thought what?" Tony asked as Kayleigh laughed.
"I thought that your watch was an hour behind..." He said simply.
"What he meant was nothing." Kayleigh explained. "He just says that randomly."
"Oh." Tony said. "Random, huh?"
"Yah." Billy said, nodding. "Randomness rules, ok. Don't mock me" He folded his arms.
"Billy no one's mocking you." Kayleigh said. "Yet..."
"Nice." Said Billy. "Yet, huh?"
"Yahuh" Kayleigh replied, brushing her hair with her fingers. Billy marveled at the fact that her hair was so long....and soft. He reached out and stroked it. "Um Billy...what are you doing...?"
"Your hair is so pretty..." He sighed, and for a second his sister wondered if he hada crush on her. Then, yanking a strand of hair and laughing hysterically, he ran off and hid around the corner, out of breath.
"What the hell!?" Kayleigh shrugged at Tony's remark.
"I don't know." She said. "But knowing Billy it's probably something really dumb..."

Billy sighed, staring at the ceiling. It wasn't very interesting. Just white stucco-ey stuff. The stuff that if you even so much as poke it, it'll come down on your head looking like dandruff. He used to do that to Kayleigh all the time when they were younger. She didn't like it much. But soon enough, he grew out of it. He rolled over and switched on the CD player him and Kayleigh shared. A blast of Simple Plan's 1st CD filled the air. He quietly sang along, not knowing it. He felt calm, yet he didn't know why. He suddenly heard a knock at the door. He looked at it questioningly, not knowing if he should let the unknown person in the other side in or not. Was it mom, Greg, Kayleigh or Tony?
"Can I come in?" It was Tony. Billy shrugged. "Billy?" Then he realized that Tony couldn't have seen that because the door hadn't been opened yet. "Y'ok?"
"Yah." He sat up. "I'm ok" He brushed his sexy bangs out of his eyes. Damn bangs, he thought. The door opened and Tony, his step brother appeared.
"Hey." He said. Why was Tony being so nice all of a sudden? "I was talking to Kayleigh" He told Billy.
"Talking or arguing?" Billy inquired.
"Talking. You know, where you move your lips and words come out? I was doing that."
"Oh." Billy said. "I know what talking is, dammit."
"Oh." Said Tony. "Anyways, I've decided not to be mean anymore"
"K." Billy said. "Good idea." He looked into his step-brother's blue eyes. His bleached blonde hair was spiked up messily. He wasn't really good looking, but he had something sexy about him. Not to Billy though, as Billy wasn't in to blondes. Unless you caound Jessica Simpson. But she was to ditzy for her own good, so she was out of the question.
"Yes, I know" Said Tony. "Going now. Gonna phone Chelsea." Chelsea was Tony's girlfriend, I guess you could say. They weren't really a couple, but they were really close. Tony only liked her 'that' way. Chelsea, of course, had different views. But she never told that to Tony, because she had no clue that Tony even liked her, even though he made it really obvious. Then he left the room, leaving Billy in a ponderous mood, sitting on his bed, his brown hair shagging in his eyes. He lay back down, not bothering to move it, as he tried to see through the strands blocking his tired and confused eyes.

"Hey, I'm home" Tony walked in the front door, keys in hand. "What are the brats up to today?"
"We're not brats!" Was Kayleigh's comment. Billy just shrugged. Kayleigh crossed her arms. "We're not..." Tony shrugged, and sat down on the sofa inbetween the twins.
"K, listen bitch. You do whatever I tell you to, or you get in trouble, got it?" She nodded tearfully.
"Mhm." She glanced back at Billy, to see what he was doing. He looked rather normal, but she detected something in his eyes. Somethin like anger, outrage, amusement? Was Billy amused at Kayleigh being called a bitch? No, he couldn't be.
"Hey Tony, don't." He said, getting up and attempting to push him aside. It didn't work, but it was worth a shot.
"Whoa" Tony said, pretending to be scared. "Don't like, freak out"
"Well then don't call my sister a bitch." Said Billy. "Sure, she is and she knows it, but you don't have to be mean and tell her that"
"Ok." Tony said. "I'll be mean and tell her that" Billy rolled his eyes.
"Don't" He said. "She'll kill you. TRUST me."
"Why should I trust you?" Tony questioned him. "You're just a stupid, retarded eleven year old."
"TWELVE" Said Billy. "We are twelve years old"
"Ok." Said Tony. "Sorry, twelve."
"Ok." Billy said, grabbing another handful of chips and shoving one in his mouth, "You don't have to be mean just 'cuz mom and Greg aren't home."
"Yes I do, actually" He said, grinning. "It makes me glad"
"Glad?" Billy asked.
"Happy." Said Kayleigh.
"Oh." Said Billy. "Fuck it" He shrugged and walked off to his room.
"What's his problem?" Tony asked. "You." Said Kayleigh, also walking off. "He hates you."
"Oh?" Tony seemed interested now.
"Yea." Said Kayleigh, going on. "He doesn't like that you always bug us all the time. It is really annoying, you know.
"Oh?" Said Tony.
"Yea." Said Kayleigh. "So leave 'im alone, ok?"
"Ok." Tony agreed, letting her on. "Yea, I'll leave 'im alone. 'S worth a try. Maybe he'll like me more"
"Just maybe..." Said Kayleigh.

-Later-

Kayleigh walked in the door to find her brother watching MTV. He was lounging on the sofa, eating a bag of BBQ chips.
"Well, I see you're feeling better..." She commented sarcastically. "What's on?"
"Newlyweds" He told her, stuffing another chip in his mouth.
"You aren't really sick, are you" She said as more of a statement than a question, really.
"Neh" He shrugged. "'S Monday."
"Oh I see" She said. "It's Monday. And to youm that's 'Oh, I'm sick' day" She rolled her eyes. "Idiot..."
"Eh." He shrugged again. "Jessica Simpson's hot"
"Ew," She said. "She's a good singer, but...ew, Billy" He laughed and ate another chip.
"Hey sis, can you get me a Coke?"
"No." She told him, flopping down on the sofa. "When mom gets home, I'm telling her that you were faking"
"You've got no proof to show her" He said, pushing his hair out of his eyes. He really needed a haircut. The brown hair-the color of tree bark-was always getting in his eyes. It was quite annoying, actually. But most of the girls in his 7th grade class thought it quite sexy. The teacher did not. Infact, she often threatened to cut it all off.
"We got homework today" She said, re-applying her Lip Smackers.
"Aw no, really?" He sighed angrily.
"Yea." She said, pulling it out of her pink messenger bag and handing the sheet to him. "Social. We gotta read the site and get the info. Computer work. You're good at that."
"Mm..." He shrugged. "Kinda, not really" He put it down on the table.
"I bet you that if I gave you a sheet like that on Good Charlotte or something, you'd get 100% and not like, 50 like you usually do."
"Mm..." He said again.
"Billy, what's wrong with you!" She burst out. "Do you ever say anything other than 'Mm'?! It's really starting to get to me!"
"Kay, what's wrong?" He asked her. She's usually more snobby than that. She doesn't usually yell over little things like lack of communication. If she's yelling, it's usually about nothing to wear or the whereabouts of her lipgloss.
"Nothing." She said, hiding it. "Nothing's wrong."
"I'm sure." He said, getting up off the sofa. "S'cuze me. I gotta go to the bathroom..." She rolled her eyes, and watched him as he stalked down the hallway.
"Retard..." She muttered, shaking her head.

-Next Day-

"Billy, Kayleigh, time to wake up for school" Liz opened the twin's bedroom door, and stepped inside. "Twins, wake up" She opened the blinds, making the 7am sun shine on the peaceful faces of her adolescent children.
"Mm..." Kayleigh rolled over, and stretched. "I need my beauty rest..." She muttered. She covered her head with the pink blanket.
"Kayleigh Marie..." Her mother warned.
"Ok, mom..." Kayleigh sight, and sat up, stretching her arms. "Stupid 7th grade..." She muttered. Now it was time for Billy to rise, as he hadn't even so much as twitched yet.
"Billy...?" Liz gently shook him. "Billy, wake up"
"Mm...no..." He moaned. "Don't wanna" He rolled over, so he was now facing his sister's bed.
"Billy" She sighed. "Get up"
"Don't feel good..." Was his excuse. "Can't"
"Oh, Billy..." Her whole attitude changed. "What's wrong?"
"My head hurts" he told her, turning back over, revealing his red-flushed face. She felt his forehead.
"Ooh, you're hot..." She said. "Kayleigh? Can you fetch me a glass of water or a facecloth?" But Kayleigh had already gone downstairs to eat her breakfast of yogurt and orange juice. "Ugh..." She sighed. "Will you be ok if I leave you alone for a minute?" She asked her 12-year-old son.
"Yeh." He said, voice barely audible. "Mom, it hurts..."
"Ok sweetie, I'll be right back" He nodded painfully as she left the room. When she was gone, he smiled.
"Yess!" As he was faking sick, and had been the whole time. Nothing was worse than a Monday.
~
When his mom came back into his room, he was pretending to be asleep.
"Billy?" She said. "I'm going to work now, is that ok?"
"Mm..." He said, rolling over. "K, watever"
"Ok." She smiled, nervous about leaving him alone for the whole day, seeing as Tony had to go to work at the car wash today. "I'll just leave your water here then." She set the glass down on the table, and sauntered out of the room, leaving the door only a tiny crack open. "If you need me, just call me ok? But I'll be home at 5 so you don't have to worry."
"Mhm..." He fake-coughed and pulled the sheet up higher. "I'll be ok" He said softly. "Just go" Little did he know what would happen later...

"We're home!" Liz exclaimed, stopping the car in the garage.
"God, finally!" Billy let out his breath, as he'd been holding it the whole time. "I'm like, gonna burst!"
"Nice, Billy" Kayleigh rolled her eyes. Billy jumped out of his seat, and fumbled for the door handle.
"Le'mme out!" He whined in such a voice, that caused everyone, even Tony to laugh. "C'mon...." He said, his voice cracking. His ears turned red, and he put his hands to his mouth. Kayleigh, giggling, pushed him aside gently and opened the van door for him.
"Get some muscles, dork" She told him playfully.
"I have muscles" He said, showing them off, but only ended up squeezing a limp arm covered by a loose black sleeve.
"Ew." She said, shoving him and stepped out og the minivan. Billy jumped out after her, and ran up to the door. It was locked.
"Frick!" He cursed, trying to open it. "Damn door won't open!" He kicked it in frustration. "Open, dammit!"
"Let me try." Said his step dad, holding up the key. "I think you might find this helpful, Bill" Billy nodded, blushing red.
"Yah, k" He glared at Greg, as he opened the door so he could get inside. "Thanks" He said lamely, not being able to wait any longer, and rushing through the open door.
"He hates you, dad" Tony appeared behind Greg, holding a few of the bags they had packed.
"What makes you say that?" He said, his hands dropping to his sides.
"He was glaring at you, when you tried to help him. He tries to have as little conversation with you as possible." Said Tony, hands in the pockets of his grey Dickies.
"Oh." Said Greg. "I guess he just needs a little time to get used to me, that's all." He said, motioning for Liz and Kayleigh to get inside. "But he doesn't hate me." Tony shrugged and walked inside.

"Hehe!" Billy laughed and bounced around in his seat in the middle of the van beside his twin sister Kayleigh. Billy and Kayleigh were both 12 years old. Kayleigh was actually 5 minutes younger than Billy, but nearly twice as smart. She got an average of 95% per subject, whereas Billy got high 50's. Kayleigh fluffed her hair and straightened her tanktop. The hot pink one she'd gotten at JC Penney's.
"Oh, shut up." She said, rolling her eyes at Billy. "There is no way you are getting any of this Caramilk" She said, waving it infront of his face as he tried to grab it.
"Hey, no fair!" He cried, spilling his ginger ale on his Level 27 shirt. "Aw, frick!" He cursed, and wiped it off with his hands as his sister laughed at him. Their 22 year old step brother, Tony, leaned over, glaring at them.
"Man, can you guys keep it down? I'm tryin' to listen to my tunes!"
"First of all," Kayleigh said. "Nobody in this household says 'tunes'. Second of all, isn't that loud enough already?"
"Not loud enough to block out bratty 11-year-olds."
"First of all, we're 12, second of all, I am not bratty!"
"And I am?" Billy argued.
"Yes, now shut up." She put her hand infront of her face, as if to shun him. He slouched and crossed his arms.
"Am not!" He complained.
"Listen, will you guys just SHUT UP!" Tony complained.
"No!" Kayleigh said, grinning.
"K, Listen you fucking bitch..." He glared at her evilly. "You better shut up or-"
"Tony! How dare you say that! I am SO not! Ugh!" Her face was a mask of pure outrage and disgust. Billy just looked shocked and a little amused. Their parents, however, looked angry.
"Anthony John!" Came the shrill voice of Liz Lovato. "Apologize to Kayleigh at once! She doesn't deserve to be treated like that!"
"Yes, you're old enough to know that, Anthony." Greg, Tony's father said, scowling. "For God's sake, you're 22! You should be in college!"
"Father..." Tony warned. "K, sorry, Kay" He said quickly, for good measure.
"Apology accepted." She said coldly. "Never again, got it Frank?"
"Got it" Toni sighed.
"Yah, you don't call my sister a bitch, idiot" Billy said, protecting his sister.
"Billy" His mom warned. "I know you're defending your sister, but can you refrain from using that word, please?"
"Yah, k" He agreed, getting bouncy again. "We there yet? I gotta pee"
"Almost home" His mom told him, laughing. Kayleigh rolled her eyes.
