Lady Avenger

History: Diane Kerrathorn's life started out as any normal woman's did. Sent off to pursue her studies at a convent until she reached a suitable age for marriage. Fate or perhaps a more guiding hand would change that forever. One day while traveling back to the convent from her home the wagon train she was in was beset by slavers, and all were slain except the girls and young women. The slavers took her to be trained to serve their various needs. Diane spent two years toiling in the serveries and tending to the mundane tasks of her unwanted master. Until one night when one of the masters deemed it time for her to be "taken"...seeing an opportunity. Diane slew the slaver who wished to lie with her among his furs. Escaping. Diane met marauders who harried the slavers borders. Even though the marauders also preyed upon the more just Realms also. Diane considered it a trade off for gaining revenge on the slavers...besides...she only slew soldiers who knew the risks of their service. She stayed with the marauders until early adulthood when fate would step in again. The marauders attacked an innocent band of pilgrims who were traveling to a holy shrine. Diane's sword slew several of these pilgrims. This attack enraged several of the more lawful nearby realms, and they sent their knights to deal with the marauding band. Diane was severly injured when a force of knights caught up with them. She alone managed to survive and wandered off...dazed...feverish. Diane's journey ended at the very holy site the pilgrims she slew were traveling too. Sanctuary. Taken in and healed. She caught the attention of an old priestess who sensed within her a great power for good. This priestess told Diane of the Guardians of Sanctuary. How One was always chosen and served until their death. Diane began training in the ways of the sword and the mystic arts. She would spend hour upon hour reading ancient tomes. Her physical training included running up and down the mountain side behind the Abbey, moving piles of stone to one location only to move it back. She was ordered to wash all the clothes. All the dishes of the Abbey. Thinking for a time that she had unwittingly been enslaved again. Until the day the priestess bid her come to the top of the mountain. The priestess had Diane kneel and pray upon the ground for 3 days. Telling her to open her mind to the world around her..to feel things...sense them with her whole being. On the last day. As the sun began to dip toward the horizon and its light grew dim. Diane felt a presence before her. Opening her eyes she saw a winged angel, its golden armor shining with a brilliance matching that of the sun. In the air before Diane appeared a sword. The angel told her if she was worthy of it, she would be able to grasp it. Reaching out Diane grasped the hilt. She instantly felt the warmth flow into her. As she turned the sword to gaze upon its length. Runes appeared glowing brightly. She knew not the languege but the meaning burned into her mind. This was the Sword of the Archangels. "Blade Song" and would forever be linked to her. Despite the swords size it was light as a feather in her hand. As the vision of the angel faded the priestess spoke to her "Now your training will begin in earnest". Diane spent the next several years training along with the Paladins of Sanctuary. The rigorous training with her sword, with which she moves as one , and other weapons forged her into a living weapon for the forces of good and rightousness. Diane also continued her education in the mystic arts. Reading tome upon tome of spells, and learning how to destroy demons and other creatures of the night. As well as to cast minor spells offensive, defensive, and healing. Diane was given the name "Lady Avenger" and was sent out on many quests to hone what she had learned. Hers was the figure seen standing over the bodies of the orcs by the villagers when they were attacked. She was the one who ended the reign of terror that the coastal pirates had enjoyed for decades. She ended the raids by the kobolds of the mountain ranges. During one of her visits to the mountains She came upon a young hatchling dragon that was being attacked by men wishing to capture it. She slew the would be captors. The dragon swore that it would aid her if ever she called it and gave her the rare and high honor of being called "Dragon friend" . After questing for some time. Lady Avenger was summoned to the death bed of the priestess. Reaching out for her hand the priestess place a small amulet on a chain in it. The priestess uttered these words. "This key is now your honor and burden to bear. With it only you can pass to the gateway. To ensure it remains sealed" . With that the priestess closed her eyes one final time, as Lady Avenger felt her spirit caress her lovingly as it went to its rest. The nature of the Guardian has made Diane long lived. Being 360 years old but looking no older than 30. Tall for a woman, with a shapely firm muscled body. The strength she wields has surprised many a man who thought to take advantage of her. Her speed and skills with her sword are legendary. Sending many an evil soul to their fate. Lady Avenger is most often seen in the company of Vengenceknightblade, King of Knightwolf Crest. The two have harried several realms that invite slavery within their midst's.Gaining the praise of some, and the hatred and fear of others. Lady Avenger does not sit upon the throne of Sanctuary. Though there are those that urge her to claim the crown. She is satisfied to continue to atone for her past sins by protecting existence by watching over the evil contained within the depths of Sanctuary. Lady Avengers primary weapon is her sword. "The Sword of Archangels" Blade Song. Named for the sound it makes when its vorpal edges cleave through the air, and the sorrowful moan when it claims an evil soul. Anything less than other enchanted blades or armor have little chance of stopping its path.
