The chilling breeze passed gently, stroking the teens long, silky golden hair, and the distant sound of leaves died to a mere quiver as the wind passed. The two shadowy figures crept past the troden gate, and throught the ankel high unkept grass that grew wildly acrost the middle schools football field.

When the two obviously close friends came into view they beguin to chatter anxiously. The two girls, one tall with a lanky figure, and the other about 1/4 shorter with a slim figure suddenly jumped nervously, and sprinted madly to the narrow door way of the girls locker room.

The door, which was normaly locked was wide open, creakinag on its hinges, but the girls were too frightend to of noticed. Silently they slipped past the red benches that were chipped from years of use into the metal equiptment cages, and fastened the bolt behind them. The cages provided protection, so they quietly sat down, and waited for the two other girls who had planned to come. Something had followed them there, but they wernt about to find out what.

It could have just been the wind, but from somewhere in the blackness outside the small cage something was moving. Then suddely the cage door came tumbling down. Neither of them screamed but they clung to a pole that had fallen with the door. Then the steel grasp of a cold hand grabbed them by the back of the nexk pulling them close to pale, emotionless face. His iron grip had kate and lauren's necks, but they were flainly madly, kicking for all they were worth but never once hitting the well planned attacker. He drew lauren so close to his mouth as to where she could feel his breath, which came in akward untimed exhales upon her tender neck. Kate screamed as his sharp, snake like fangs pierced the side of lauren's neck, and his eyes danced with life... her life. The pain was instantanious, and the soothing, suductive tingle of losing blood made struggling nearly impossiable, but lauren still did.

With all her remaining life she slammed her hand into his dazed eye, and was shoved roughly against the wall. She slid to the ground, as the rugged wall sliced her face, as she reached out for the heavy pole to save kate, but it was too late. Lauren passed out only getting one last look at kate's golden cat like eyes, and it went unusually dark, and deadly silent.

Lauren woak later to the sound of crying and she sat up, rushed madly over to kate, ignoring the gasps of rachel, and jessica. Gently resting Kate's pale head on her knee she prayed aloud to God to let her live, and live she did. Her eyes fluttered open, but it wasnt the same beautiful eyes as before. They were dark, and more misterious... almost icy, but they were anything but dead. The silent onlookers gazed open mouthed in terror, they could of sworn Kate, and Lauren had been dead, but something was different, they were different, and starving.

Casuly giving a sideways glance to kate I knew she was feeling the same, Jessica, and Rachel's necks were throbbing and every sound, every motion, was tempting. Barbaricly Kate, and lauren charged, possised by instincts, almost cat like upon the two girls necks, and they fed until every last inch of their "should be dead" bodys were "high on life" litterly. The sensation of taking life with no remorse set their new goddess like status, and knowing they destroyed a future, sent adrinaline pulsing threw every vain. They had felt the power of choice, of being above law, and of their new vampyric nature umong the immortals.

With the fresh warm blood still on our fangs tey took a seat on the old benches and looked into the slim mirrors throught the darkness with their well adjusted vision. Neither reflections were gone, but they weren't exactly solid. More translucent, you could see through their images, but you knew that they were still there cause you could see the faint outline. Laux's hair was nolonger the beautiful sun streaked brownish blonde hair as before, it had turned a dark brown, but was still eleguent, yet odd. Then her strange colored sea green eyes were a dark royal blue, and no longer held the defiant life it had held before. Speaking mostly to her self she announced akwardly, "Lauren is dead, Laurx lives." and with that she turned my back on all she ever knew, a new life had begun...forever. Kate claimed she had become kat. They were dead, and fotten.

The silence was akward as every new smell, new sensation, and ability came into focus. Finaly kat broke the silence... her being the more religious one spoke sadly,"We killed our friends," she muttered. Laurx nodded solemly, but until then haddent relized what they had done, and with merely a whisper added, "I know, and I liked it, this is wrong." Kat choaked back tears as she looked at Laurx pleadingly, "We cant stay here" As Laurx sighed she relized that they haddent needed to breathe, but it was a comfert so together arm in arm they left. No longer were they afraid of the dark, they were afraid of what they had become. They didnt care where they went just anywhere away from the people they loved. In a desperate whisper Kat added "They can't ever know what we've become ..." I noded and solemly replyed,"Letting them think were dead, is better than them knowing we've become..." Her voice trailed off into the night, as she avoided finishing her sentence.

Sleep was pointless for soemthing that was dead so daylight hours passed rather slowly being cramped in a backyard shed for 12 hours. Firstly they were afraid of myths they had heard when they were alive about how vampires would die upon contact with the sun, and secondly they felt they should stay out of sight... at lest until we got out of our home town. Blood stains covered their grey t-shirts and their black pants were stiff from the stains that were unseen. They both were in no condition to be seen around mortals... So they quietly waited for dusk.

Neither dared to move until the last of the light disapeared from the sky, and as it did in a graceful silence they dissapeared back out into the familur dark. The full moon glowed palely above trees, and the shimmering twlight lit the sky. The breeze ebbed gently around the twisting streets, but the beautifuly sceen was distroyed by the unseen, and unheard dangers that they knew lurked the night uknown to the narrow-minded humans. The vampires were already well adapted to the engulfing darkness, and were hidden even around the occasional street lights that ate into the darkness. No longer needing to fear the unknown, the two continued down the forbidden, gang infested alleys behind the small aged houses. The dark alleys smelt of heavy smoke, and humans.

Like two shadows they turned upon a dimly lit path, and followed the whispering voices. Hunger drove kat and laurx on, pushing them farther and farther down the path until they discovered three poorly dressed men smoking cigerets, and drinking merrily. The air cringed, and from the darkness the three men were attacked by a merciless assaliant. Kat frowned, quite jelous that their prey had been stolen, but they joined the assaliant in hopes of a friendly face. The men were helplessly drunk, and were subdude quite easily. It couldnt of been considered much of a fight for it ended shortly after. Kat and Laurx were well upon their host, unaware of the vaguely familure friend feeding upon the third thug.

As everyone droped their limp, sucked dry food they layed back on the hard, cold concrete of the rectangular dead end, and rested after the filling meal. The stranger was the first to move, and said a vague hello intrducing herself as Racx, formerly know as Rachel. Shreaking happily Kat ran to her once very much alive friend, and huged her like she had been dead for years. Much slower than kat had Laurx lugged over to Racx, "Hello!," Laurx exclaimed happily. Racx grinned brightly and her fangs glisened as bright as the full moon above. She replyed kindly,"Thank you." Looking at the new vampire Laurx asked confidently "For what?" Racx laughed and gave another of her sideway evil grins, and they all laughed happily with their old friend... the vampires all knew what she ment...

Racx pointing at our clothes and laughed, "Follow me, I know where we can get more." Dragging Kat and laurx by the hand they jerked with great haste down the deserted back alley way, and into the parking lot of the near by strip center. With out a second thought Racx busted down the door to the nearest store and shoved them into the midths of every imaginable shirt, and pants you could dream of. The overly cheerful Racx sprinted off searching for clothes as Kat turned down the jeans isle. Laurx was left alone near the frount of the store and decided to take advantage of the new freedom. Smiling to herself she flung through the t-shirts tossing away the set with purple monkeys, and discarding the bright yellow monkey pajams. From the back of the shelf she carefuly drew out a black t-shirt with a red dragon on the frount, and shifted threw the pants until she came acrost a pair of baggy, long, black basketball pants.

She quickly changed out of the stained pants, and into the new wardrobe of black, and quickly looked at her faded appearence in the near by mirror, and turned away sharply cause it reminded her too much of who she had been. Shouts from acrost the room woak her from my daze, and she hurried over to where kat, and racx were talking anxiously. Kat had changed into a dark red shirt with a darkly colored dog on the frount, and she had put on a pair of lose fitting dark denim jeans. Racx had a straw hat over her darkened blonde hair, and a black shirt with a drawing of a blue farie on the frount and wore the same dark denim jeans as Kat had chose. Racx's eyes shone like an animals in the darkness.

"Common yall hill billys" joked Racx from under her wide-brim straw hat. "Red neck" i called teasingly after Racx, and they all laughed as she threw the hat at Laurx for her sarcastic comment. As quickly as they had entered the store, they left, and headed, in style, acrost the small suburbin road, and into a dense patch of undergrowth. The small delta of trees were untouched by the rapid growth of the area, but several trees were tagged with bright orange ribbon, so we knew it wouldnt last long. In complete silence the three of us stalked through the patch, with little more than the crack of a twig.

Nearly half an acre through the tangled mess of limbs, and studded vines the group stumbled acrost an open clearing. With laurx at the lead the group fell into line, and trampled unpleasently through the waist high weeds, manuvering gracefully acrost the pale white rocks, and continued on until Kat discovered a small wooden overhang draped over a rather unstable mound of fallen logs. The air reaked of death, and instinctivly brought silent, toothy smiles to each vampires shadowed faces. Racx smoothly leaned agaisnt the pile of unwieldy logs, humming an oddly comferting minor tune, that broke into the akward stillness, and a peace settled among the three girls.

As if out of no where something snapped, almost gun like, echoing through the night, and the logs Racx where leaning on caved in, proveing to be hallow, as she shrieked, panicing to caught her balence. It was to late tho, and Racx hit the ground in a brutal blow. The two on lookers watched in confusion, and suddenly burst out laughing, when from beneath the logs you could hear Racx's muffeled laughter. "You ok" kat managed through stiffeled laughs. "Just help me up sheese!" she replied as kat pulled her from the logs. All the while...laurx, praticly crying from laughter, rested agaisnt a quite solid... "You guys," said laurx seriously as she sprung frightend away from where she stood, "Were not the only ones here." She pointed out, and the others laughter ceased.

Kat looked around the empty clearing, her and Racx could see nothing but still shadows cast by the dim moonlight, and the faint tingle of someones aura. Exchanging glances, the girls knew they had over looked the area, there was something strange, and it sent shivers down their spines. In what seemed a forced light tone Racx spoke what so far had held to be true, "Oh come on guys, what else out there could be deadlier than us." Almost as if in response, the still night air became a sudden swirling howling wind circling the three girls. None of them flinched, but Kat and Laurx looked at Racx with their stone gaze, which burned, and flickered liked black flames, warning her to stop. "Laurx is right, we're not alone." Kat replyed hesitently. For the first time, with their new power, they looked at one another, frightened by whatever was waiting and taunting them. "Could there be such a crearure so powerful as to strike fear into the undead hearts of even vampires?" thought the girls as they stood back to back wide-eyed in fear.

Something slipped from the shadows with a serpent like grace, and flowed twords the three girls menicingly. The cold black serpent flowed around them, making a point to brush by each girl, as if the fear radiating from there cold bodies was its life source. Each black scale took its time touching each of the motionless vampires, bringing a stinging sensation upon impact, as suddle as the pain had come it left leaving a numb icey feel upon the skin. Slowly and stiffly the three vampiresses, backed closer to each other, and watched in frightened astonishment as the shadow began to take form. Only inches away from Laurx, a deadly handsome figure rose from the shadows, and his enchanting, glimmering silver eyes fixed upon her. Kat,laurx, and Racx watched in awe at the vampyric shapeshifter. His wet jet-black hair hung freely over his beautiful, mysty eyes, and his narrow elvish face was nearly flawless, the color of a white pearl agaisnt the full moon. His well toned body was displayed with a tight, black t-shirt, and his oversized dark jeans were well worn, and frayed at the heels. The teenage boy, looked no older than 15,and had a ghastly tattoo of a deadly black serpent visably coiled upon his upper arm giving the boy a threating, almost demonic look about him.

Laurx threatingly took a step twords the shapeshifter and asked tauntingly "And who are you?"then crossed her arms with a smirk. Racx snapping out of her gaze, followed Laurx lead and added with a smile "Yah, what makes you so special? I mean anyone can just waft out like a shadow and put on a whole show. I mean sure it was neat, but--" Kat placed a still shaky hand on Racx shoulder, letting her know she had gotten her point out. In respomse, she stopped talking and looked back and the beautiful demonic creature and raised an eyebrow. The shapeshifter answered in a silent, dangours voice "Watch your tounge around vampires, they fight to the death if chalanged," he glanced behind him and continued," not that you would know or anything." He laughed at his own joke, but his laugh was stiff, and cold-hearted. Laurx noted to herself not to let her humour die, and her laughs send chills down even a vampires spine, ever.

Racx never lost the look of cruel amuzent on her face, but the demon's laugh was a bit unerving, and when put with Laurx's surprisingly cruel laugh, was only to strange and out of place. Behind her, Kat shuddered and back away slowly. In a hesitant, and shallow voice "You..never" she let her voice die off. The creature found Kat's timidness sickly amusing, which made racx and laurx cringe hoping that he wouldnt lash at her for her attempt to ask what needed to be known. "You..you never told us who you were." Kat tried again, and though unconfident managed to get it out. "And this is a vampire?" He laughed breaking the once again still night like shattering glass."The name's Darkine and if you want call me Kine. I don't really care." Darkine said boredly. "Im sure you already know our names" said laurx puorposefully matching his bored tone. "Then again you might not, or might not even care to know" she added sarcasticly. Laurx looked at Racx out of the corner of her eyes, and Racx took the hint. "What ever are you going to do with us oh great Kine," Kats smile edged her on "Oh mommy! The big bad snake man has come to eat us!" The girls laughed at darkine who stood stunned, never having been spoken to with such confidence in all his life.

Racx, who by now was caught up in the fun began again. "Oh no help me!!! The Evil Snake guy is going to kill me with his evil stare!!! Oh no what should I do..help mommy I can't move!!" Racx suddenly opened her eyes after laughing breathlessly, a second to late, so as to catch his cold hand across her face. Her other cheek slammed into the rocky dirt full force, as the strength of his slap had knocked her to the ground. Darkine stepped back, cocked his head to the side grinned wickedly. "What was it you were saying, my little friend?" The words left his curled lips dripping in sarcasm. Slowly and casually, in order to retain her cool collected composure, Racx pulled her self up. With a playful grin, she licked the blood dripping from the corner of her mouth. "I was saying that you are really not scaring us. Was I not?" She looked to Laurx, who hadn't changed her sarcastic look or even moved. Then her gaze turned to Kat who was backing up again against a tree, and Finally she locked her eyes back upon Darkine's shining silver ones daring him to hit her again. Kat continued slowly backing up, until she stumbled over the root of a great willow tree, and almost fell. "Hel--" kat cried starttled. She tried to cry out, but immediately a hand was clasped over her mouth. Kat was terrified, she hadn't asked for this. Suddenly the arm still holding her waist tightened and picked her up,and she was easily swung over a massave shoulder. She could hear her friends shouting, and pursing her, and her kiddanaper from a distance, but she wasnt sure if they had seen which direction they had went. She shouted at the top of her lungs at the man, but it only came out in dull muffels. Why were they taking her, and where... would she be found?

Panting heavily laurx, Racx, and Darkine tore threw the acre of thick shrubs, but failed to find Kat. They trudged misrably to the crub, and sat angryly on the asphalt. Everyone looked at Darkine, him being the older, more experienced vampire, but he gave no solution. Darkine spoke sadly, "Im sorry," he quivered "I didnt think they would follow me..." his voice trailed off as Laurx and Racx Exchanged tired glances. Something was wrong, and everyone sensed it... there was something that they hadnt figured out, something about kat. Drakine took a deep breath, which was unneeded, and beguin.

"Long ago the orcal told of 3 friends who were changed to vampires, it said together they had power far beyond anyone or thing that ever lived on our earth. It claims that the timid one of those three will decide the fate of the earth, and those three alone will determine weither vampires will rise, and the human world will come to ruin, or humans will continue to live, unaware of the dangers at night. Theres a riddle on it. For centuries many have tried to understand it's meaning, and for centuries they have failed." With a slight smirt he added " Im still waiting for someone to figure it out, but back to the issue at had." He Rusmed his seriousness. "The riddle says...

Three of all power

Will Rise from the night

In safty of grey

neither black nor pure white

Timid will choose

and Joker wont lose

Alone in dark places

answers will find

One Betrayed

The night will soon rise

Dawn

or

Dusk

... No one knows what they mean. They have ideas, but the cant exacly point out anything." Laurx, and Racx were shocked sensless, and had a lose of words. The silence echoed with thoughts, they were losing time.

Three things stuck to racx, and she forced her self to memorize them. "Timid will choose, Joker wont lose, answers will find." She repeated them over and over until they lost all word value, and became a memory. Laurx poked racx gently, and helped her swiftly to her feet. They beguin to walk off in the direction of where they had thought kat had been taken too, but honestly they were just walking. Petrefied they suddenly froze, and gaped open mouthed in horror. Darkine followed there gaze from where he sat, and rushed madly twords the two girls. Suddenly he dropped to the street, and hurled himself into a jet-black adder. The adder's arrow-like head lunged forward, his ribbon body trailing like lightening behind him.

His adder body darted upon a vampire covered from head to toe in a brown cloak, and he bit down so fiercly, with the needle sharp venoms fangs, that you could see his arm bend from the powerful blow. Almost instantaniously the cloaked bandit materilized, for adder poisen was strong enough to kill even a vampire within seconds. The beautiful serpent gracefuly changed back into vampyric form, and left the two girls even more in aww. In a bit more than a whisper he cooed "You are safe with me," he smiled gently, and added "I think i know where they may have taken kat... come alone we must hurry." And with that he turned onto the nearest alley way, and the three disapeared into a twisting maze of backpaths.

The First sign of dawn rose over the buildings, but they continued on tiredly. Laurx thought to herself," In safty of grey...," she looked at darkine's beautiful silver eyes questionably. "Darkine will protect us, we cant leave his side" she concluded, as she quickened her pace, and continued on after the two others.

By noon, the vampires were soaked with sweat, and they were all suffering from the sun's effects. Vampires dont die from the sun, but there skin is much more sensitive to its rays than humans. The three hobbled under an overhang from a near by building and sat quietly upon a neatly stacked wooden crates. While sitting, Racx pulled out a pure black opal, she had found in the alley, assuming some lady had lost it. She began tossing it back and forth, watching it intensely as if expecting it to do something amazing. Laurx and Darkine, on the other hand, sat in silence, eyeing each other creating unexistant shadowing doubts. Laurx didn't fully trust darkine, but it wasnt unusul cause her trust was never one easily earned. Darkine's intent gaze watched laurx, as he tried to understand the newly changed vampire. Darkine didnt understand why she wouldnt trust him, but he shruged it off, there was much he didnt know.

When they were cooled down enough to talk Racx asked Darkine couriously "What, or who was that phatom?" She gazed into his kind silver eyes shyly, and blushed slightly, before changing her gaze to her old worn tennis shoes. He thought for a min, as if thinking about how to word what was neccasary for him to say and what he could leave out, and finally answered lacking confidence, "I'm not really sure, but I think it was one of the same things that ran off with Kat." At that his face crumpled into a funny, crinkly ball, and the girls couldnt help, but laugh. "Basicly not everyone is happy about a prophicy that could end any chances for vampires to rule the world." Racx was satisfyed with his answer, but laurx looked up doubtfully and inquired,"Why are you helping us?" He silver eyes darkend slightly as he answered, "Once youve seen true evil, you can never unsee what you saw," he quoted "but the least i can do to cover my past is make sure that the future has a chance... something big is comming, and every right minded person can feel it." With that he changed the subject indirectly, "Well we cant waste anytime, shall we go?" The girls nodded quietly as they followed Darkine back into the alley maze he knew so well.

Laurx lingered behind a step or two, in thought, as if she were debating whether or not she could trust this guy. Her gaze lifted from the rocky ground up to Darkine, who seemed just as deep in thought as her. Laurx placed a steady hand on Racx shoulder and pulled her back. "I’ve been thinking, how do we know he is really going to help us find Kat? He could be working for those phantom things just as easily. What if this prophecy is just some joke?" She questioned barely audible. Racx just looked at her, very confused."Are you saying you don’t trust him? He seems real serious about everything that’s happened. Haven’t you seen the cute way his face crinkles up when he’s really deep into his thinking? What’s there not to trust, and what other choice do we have." Racx said in her casual, everythings perfectly normal voice. "Sure, but I think we should still be careful. You never know." With that said Racx turned around and quickend her pace to catch up with Darkine.

Laurx stayed behind, still worried. She wasn’t quite sure how her friend could act so light in such a time of darkness, but that was the way she had always been. She let her eyes linger on the ground as they followed Darkine into a damp cold entrance to the destination. In the dark, her eyes met Darkine’s blazing silver ones, and the line from the riddle returned to her mind once again. The line from the riddle drifted into her mind once again. "In safty of grey" How she hoped those words held true.

"Racx, on non-stop flirt mode, was quite ammusing" Laurx thought to herself. Racx had been hanging, and not to mention drooling over Darkine ever since the first time she saw him. Laurx laughed quietly, as she smiled happily for Racx. You could even tell Darkine was becomming quite fond of the perky, annoyishly random vampiress, but reading vampire's emotions was a bit tricker, not to mention dangerous, than a mere human so she couldnt be sure. The two seemed to be ignoring her, but Laurx didn't really mind all that much. Her thoughts were turned to ... other matters. Laurx walked around in a daze, as she was one known to become...lost...quite easily.

When she finaly looked around the sky had darkened some, and by looking at the sun she concluded it was about 3 o'clock pm. Dark clouds loomed to the west, and occasionly lighting stuck from within the giant thunder clouds. She opened her mouth to complain that her feet hurt, but stoped herself, not wanting to be the one to break the silence. Suddenly the alley walls fadded from the brick-red, to more eliguent, dark grey stucco, and the back side of the alley dimmed. Majick was present, and acted as warm encouraging doormat would to human guests. "Where almost there" said Darkine smoothly. Both girls, startled by the sudden sounds, jumped slightly, and smiled in relief.

Darkine turned down an alley twords the omnious clouds, and quickened his pace. Finaly, they arived at ... a dead end. Both girls had a look of disapointment on there face, and Racx said "um, did we take a wrong turn?" She looked quite doubtfull, and she felt like she had been let down.Darkine saw the hurt in her eyes, and he wanted and needed to keep their trust. A gentle smile came to his lips. "Trust me, we're at the right spot. We're majikal creatures, creatures of the night. You aren't mortal anymore, a dead end isn't always a dead end. Keep that advice with you always. Now hush up, and let me do what I need to." Laurx and Racx looked at each other confused. "Had he just given them inspirational and probably useful advice?" questioned Racx silently. They look back to check if that warm smile was still there, but it had been replaced with an amazingly evil, yet concentrated look. Darkine started to whispher, in what Laurx and Racx were positive wasn't English. "Vires nox noctis venio!" The words flowed from his mouth like dangerous sweet venom and a black snake appeared, spiraling around what seemed to be a door. Laurx noticed the words that were written on the back of the snake. Oddly enough it was the prophecy she had been doubting. A growing fear swarmed through her dead body as she read the words

Three of all power

Will Rise from the night

In safty of grey

neither black nor pure white

Timid will choose

and Joker wont lose

Alone in dark places

answers will find

One Betrayed

The night will soon rise

or

Darkine kicked the center of the door hard, and it revealed a city like place filled with blasting music and shadows. Laurx and Racx watched the streets in amazment. Vampires roamed the streets covered in all black. There long fangs glinted in the little light cast by lamps somewhere in the ceiling. The land was filled with toweringly menacing buildings, that seemed to lean forward into the strees, good thing neither of the girls were klaustrophobica, Laurx and Racx grinned at the beatufily archateutrily designed city. The masonary work, and all the exotic art must have cost millions, or a lot of slaves. Racx said in awe "If only london looked this nice..." she was inturrpted, "Ah, this is nothing comared to the one in london." bragged Darkine happily. Laurx and Racx gasped, and checked to see if he was being truthfull, for it didnt see possiable for anything to be more beautiful than this, but he wasnt lying.

"Look, the vampires in this community are very.....prtotective. They aren't real big on people, and dont enjoy unwanted guests. There are gaurds all around working for them, so i am warning you to be careful. I mean this, do not talk about anything you wouldn't want and enemy to hear." Darkine warned in a very serious tone. Racx rose her gaze to meet his. "So, how do you plan to get us in Mr. Smart one.?" Darkine looked at her, hos dead serious expression ha dnot changed a bit, letting the girls know that he meant business and now was not the time to kid around. "Look at me, there is a majik barrier, but only serpent like creatures can get past. That happens to be my talent. Now trust me, just be careful alight?" Laurx was sure she had seen a flash of pleading in his eyes, but if it had been there, it was gone now. The girls nodded, undrestanding the potential danger they faced if caught,

Grinning madly, Darkine took each vampiress' hands into his delicate, smooth, but strong grip, and slowly the three of them faded, almost melted from human to serpent. The three of them took Racx's form of a jett-black adder, but on the back of laurx's narrow snake head was a small, silver mark that couriously resembled a cross. Darkine noticed it, and looked at it strangly for a brief second before motioning for the girls to follow, lift his tail delicatly motioning for them to head down the hill. He passed through the door into the vampiric community and slithered down the small hillside over the rocky rough ground. Darkine was graceful at the waveing motion of a slithering snake from much pratcie, but racx and laurx moved akwardly across the step hillside. He look up and pacitently waited for his two companions to reach the bottom. A voice, that you would imagine a snake to have, was heard clearly in the girls mind."Come on, this way. I have pretty good idea where Kat may be." they figured it was darkine, and they followed him as he slitherd in the shadows, out of sight, down the twisted roads of the dark town.

The three trailed the black adder as he krept along the city streets, being careful to stay in the shadows, which was easy enough in the already, poorly lit city. Sshadows and darkness was the heart of this community, and even the dimly lit streetlights were covered with a red tent, and illuminated the surroundings in a tempting red blaze, reminding Racx of her pained hunger but she dare not inform Darkine. Laurx strained to catch a glimpse of the daziling, omnious evil buildings that loomed in the darkness all about her, but the black buildings were ghosts umongst the darkened magic made sky, but ossasionly part of the extravigant builds were visable through the red glow of a near by lamp. Suddenly Darkine holted, and Racx bumped into Darkine's tail abruptly followed by Laurx. A Dark building towered above them, it looked almost never ending, as if it was made to touch the stars, but the girls knew better. The rough grain texture of the buildings was cold to the touch, and along the wall engraved dragons, and other deadly looking serpents grinned wickedly, and their piercing gaze seemed to almost follow the unwelcome guests. From somewhere near the top pusling music blasted loudly, contrasting with the dead silence of the town. Darkine wrapped his scaling body around the other snakes, and in an instant they returned to there human bodies. Racx and Laurx were up close against Darkine's, surprisingly warm body and his hands rested gently on their waists. Laurx pulled away kindly, but Racx lingered in his graps, gazing into his fasanating unhuman eyes. Laurx watched darkine slowly lean down towards racx, never breaking his intent, affectionate gaze. There lips almost met, and the air hung with anticipation, dispite the danger at hand "Ok! No public affections ladys and gents!" Laurx cut into the romantic sceen harshly, and the two lovers pulled away sharply, blushing madly as they admired their ragged shoes before gaining the confidence to continue.

Darkine shoved open the magnificent doors that lay in front of them. The group walked through the towering doorway, and into the most elegant room any of them had ever been in. The soft shimmering carpet was the color of blood, and stood out against the pitch black walls the surround the vampires. In the middle of the room a gray dull stone fountain, which held a serpent coiled in the center, a dark red liquid, which could only be taken as blood. Racx shot a quick glance at her friend, and in silence knew that her body was longing for blood to fill her body with new life. Red and black roses seemed to sprout from the walls giving the room a hauntingly comforting feel. Though simple, it held the two vampiresess amazment, until Darkine snapped them out of their gaze and montion them to move alone. Urgency was shown through every move he made, as if he didnt want to spend any more time than nessicary in the beautiful palace of death.

They walked silently and cautiously down a dimly lit hall, unsure of where they were headed. Stillness hung in the air making the trio even tenser than they already were. Paintings of earlier vampires, roses, witches and other cratures were suspended on the burgundy walls, half in the shadows and half out, giving them a wickedly immortal look. Racx felt unsettled and began to move a way from the pictures, shaking uncontrollably. She bumped into Darkine and looked up in an apology. "I'm sorry, I just" She stopped whispering as he took her trembling hand in his. "Your fine, I'm here." He looked at her with sincerenty glowing in his eyes, then once again headed forward, not once letting her go. Laurx rolled her eyes at the love fest and continued to admire the paintings that seemed to be swirling around her. They seemed to be describing the emotions running widly through her mind. She froze suddenly as a dazzling a portrait of young girl, that greatly resembled their beloved friend kat, stared at her with blazing eyes.

Laurx turned from the girl's eyes and followed Darkine. She was becoming faint from lack of blood, and wanted desperately to eat, but decided now was not the time to be complaining about ones stomach. They had been walking for what seemed like hours though many different hallways, each one always different from the others. So many colors danced in her head, and she felt lost. She wanted desperately to find her friend and flee this place of twisting worlds. Her head snapped up from watching her worn shoes move forward as Racx stopped short and practically fell over, running into a vase of, strangely enough, pure white roses. The instant her hand fell upon the one that stood straight and tall in the center of the vase, a portrait across the hall swung open. How typical, though Laurx, a secret doorway. She sat there, waiting for the painting to finish ope, and as it did she caught a glimpse of the same eyes that had stared out at her from Kat's portrait. Darkine pulled racx up and practically pushed her gently through the door. Laurx caught the annoyed look in his expression, probably from this being a secret door and all, as her turned into the black room. She gave one quick look down the hallway before she continued behind Darkine, and noticed the burgundy walls lined with paintings and realized this was where they had started.

The three of them were met with what seemed a never ending winding stairway as they entered the hidden room. Darkien led the way, holding Racx's hand gently, so as the clumsy vampire wouldn't trip and cause a commotion. There was very little light to see by, only and occasionl dim red light every twenty stairs or so. Laurx let out an uneeded sigh of relief as they finally reached the end of the stairs. The room felt cold and damp. Darkness surround the three vampires as they stood, wondering if their friend was being kept in this dark, foul dungeon.

"Kat," Darkine hissed gently into the darkness. The air cringed, and slowly a white, weakend creature rose painfully from the back of the cell, as the chains upon her wrist scraped acrost the rough, dungon floor. She smiled, as her hungry tore misrably at her, and her face disorted in pain as she leaned dizzaly agaisnt the damp, cool bars of her cell. Her smile faded as she nearly collapsed "Sit." Ordered darkine, unarguably. Laurx didnt need to be told, and flashed from the room, fleeing two steps at a time up the errie, dark stairs alone. The narrow, winding stairs twisted confusingly. "Danm*t" laurx cursed as she stummbled over the bottem of a shattered jar. With out a thought she scooped the jar into her shaky hands, and raced back into the dim light. The picture resembling kat gazed coldly as laurx passed by frightend. Down the blood red carpets, and into the main room, laurx flung the jar into the beautiful foutian of blood, gulped a helping of cold, untasty blood, filled the jar, and with great haste, retraced her steps to the decending stairs. Returning back down the steep stairs was more piourls than going up, and laurx mutter to her self as she went as fast as she could with out spilling, or drinking the tempting blood that collected thickly agaisnt the side of the jar.

Racx and Darkine had broken the old rusted bars of the prison when laurx came tumbling down the stairs. Racx looked hungry at the blood that driped from laurx lips, and the puddle in the broken jar laurx held to her side. Racx jumped sharply at laurx, but darkine was faster than the both of them, and held the instinct driven racx back "Hurry give it to kat," Darkine barked. Laurx stared blankly at Racx for a second appaled at her behavior... for laurx has never seen this side of her vampyrism, and she didnt like it. "GO!" darkine grunted fighting to hold back the powerful racx. Laurx, rushed to kat and slowly slipped the thick, blood down kat's hungry throat. Bird-like, kat drank rapidly, gaining strenght by the second. A little life returned to kat as she sat up thankfully, and when kat licked the last drop of life from the jar, racx returned to reality and apoligized profoundly claiming she had no control. We all nodded in forgivness, but that didnt silence her for many apologies to come. Kat smiled half-heartidly and silence racx with a silent finger to her lip. Kat had a way of getting what she wanted with few words said, like a velvet glove she could get someone to do what she wanted with out them knowing. That vary trait had saved her from a misrable death...dead death.... down in the cell where she was chained, but she wouldnt speak of the pain she endured... no one blamed her.

Darkine lugged the large ring of iron keys to the chains around kats tiny wrists. Twenty keys later darkine slid a sharp, rusted, iorn key into the lock, and twisted it gently as the chains snapped open and fell heavily to the floor with a clump. Flexing her wrists, kat thanked her friends greatfully, but darkine hadnt heard her. He stood gasping in horror, even more pale than normal, peterfied where he stood. Laurx, and racx followed his gaze couriously to the symbol burned, or mabey carved onto the palm of kat's hand. Dropping the keys roughly, Darkine backed away from kat slowly until he ran unawarly into the cold wall. The three girls were shocked at darkines odd behaviour, and kat hid her hands, utterly embaresed, behind her back fingering the dry blood on the rough edges of the symbol that appeared to be a rose entertwined around an upside down cross, resting in an oddly decorated diamond, slowly with her finger. Darkines silver eyes were glazed, trance like, when racx smacked him on the arm, with that he sprang to life. "K..k..at" he stuttered patheticly, "Ho..how did ..y...ou ...get...th..that." stammering he added "He's ... hes here." the girls counfuly horrifyed asked simotaniously "Whos he, and what does the symbol mean!"

Darkine's eyes turned a cold, storm cloud grey as he beguin "The symbol is of Aruekin, hellspawned goddess of haunting, it is said she will twist memorys, recoiling painful pasts until the creature is driven insain enough to join her. There is very little that exists on earth or even in hell that can be considered pure evil, but Aruekin is one of them. She managed to pry her way out of hell, into the mortal world, and conceld by the shadows of the night few know she exists. Ledged has it she fell in love with Ryunark, the enchanting neutral God of relization, and understanding. Born to them were two twins who were lost in the accounts of history, and neither has been heard of since but It is rumored that one of the twins will follow in the footseps of Areukine destroying order and peace, and wreaking veil and havok to every corner of exsitence. While the other shall continue after Ryunark keeping understanding and order upon the lives of those in need Soon after Ryunark lost control, and perished into the grey mist of the rainy evning, and aruekin was left alone." Racx looked up with a sparkling silver tear in her eye, and Darkine sighed heavily before continuing quietly.

"Aruekin's only death can be by the hands of her twins." Darkine turned away as silent tears swelled from his eyes. Kat wondered to her self why he had been so offected by the story, but as if reading her mind Darkine mouthed to kat, "I will save you, no matter what." She nodded, and haunted by fear she stood, and nobody argued as they beguin up the twisted stairs. Laurx glimpsed at kat, and woundered to her self how something that seemed so weak, could stand so tall. One after another, they trudged, defenseless, up the damp stone stairs, and unawarely passed the hall of portraits into the casual unwelcoming room where the bloody foutian stood. Wordlessly they drank the cold, tasteless blood, until they could hold no more. With that they numbly, faded into the darkness and followed Darkine, unaware of the gasps from the few whom dared to pause, down the once fasanating, ageless streets of the strange city.

Hours had seemed to of passed or mabey it was only a matter of mins that they followed Darkines swift, silenced pace through blured city. The three girls had been in such darkness before, but only in their minds, it wasnt the darkness of night but the darkness of solitude, of hurt, of pain, and of loss. Kat was drowning in her own thoughts, but continued on with laurx, and racx gental grip upon her arm. The affect of the symbol was so stong that racx could barely even flash her fangy smile with out draining her last bit of nerves, no one could imagine the hell kat was going through tho.

Kat looked down at the bloody rose as her eyes glazed over in a trance. She could no longer feel the hands on her shoulder leading her to nothing, "Always nothing..." something whispered. A steady pulse throbbed at her hand, and her head echoed with shrill laughter as her mind became a rush of her past. It became impossiable to think, it hurt to think ... "just like the nights you spent." the voice teased. "No," Kat shouted weakly, but it was drowned out by the chanting. "You are nothing, nobody cares, nobody noticed, nobody loves someone like you, Your going to lose control." With that kat colapsed into her on hell, the one she created in her mind so many times before, but this time there was no one who could pull her away except her.

Laurx, and Racx struggled to keep up with darkines hurried pace, but kat could barely take another step forward alone. They werent even sure if she was still with them, but suddenly kat jerked awake, and fell from the other two girls grap on to her knees. Kat's eyes were bloodshot, and the symbol on her palm bleed freshly as if someone had ripped it away from its power. Panting heavily kat coughed up blood, and wraped her arms around herself for the comfert nothing could give her. Shocked Racx and laurx were pushed gently aside as drakine knelt, and gently lifted kat from the rough ground, and into his firm well used arms. Darkine was well at supressing his emotions, but his fear shown through his thick shields of time as he said harshly, "Hurry" quivering he beguin to hurry on down past the unfamilliar buildings, and twords the faint outline of a large, gated mansion that grew from the distance.

Matching Darkines pace, the three looked down at the limp, figure that dangled in Darkines arms. Kat's lips were dry, her hair was tangled, and her breath came in short, weezing, pained swallows, yet she seemed to of felt the threes gaze on her, and weakly opend her eyes "Your mother," coughed kat painfully "couldnt...take me." Her eyes closed, and she finnished dryly,"Your neither black, nor pure white ...she lied" With that she fell gently back into the safty of his strong arms, and winced in pain, but she had overcome the goddess when no one ever had...

Darkine had nearly stumbled at Kats words, but forced himself on, with racx and laurx helping him. Darkine thought to himself, "If its not I, Aurkine is the one." Everything made sense now... except for what he needed to do. They looked up, and a thin ,fragile, black gate towered menecingly above them.

Darkine, though trying with whatever energy that still dwelled in him to hold himself together trying to get through this on his own, was growing constantly weaker and unfocused up until he could go no further. He stopped in front off the frail but towering gate, and gently sat kat down beside them. The same unwanted throught ran through each of the vampires clouded lost mind as it echoed,"This world, this life is falling apart, and everything is going to be destroyed. Time is drawing near." A Shudder passed through Racx and the others as a chilled icy wind passed, taunting the group, swirling around them justifying their fears. Laurx, for the moment, delayed all her chaotic thoughts, minus the one that said get out of here, quick. She lifted Kat, with little effort, and gave the others a buring glare. Racx quickly took the hint, and pulled Darkine swiftly to his feet. With no time to spare Racx started messing with the lock on the gate, and with in seconds had it opened and was rushing through it, followed by the others.Quickly they headed back toward the heavily magic gaurded door into the world of humanity.

Cold wet drops fell from the sky as the four rushed away from the vampire community that had left a buring image of terroir and death in their minds. Laurx loooked down at her friend who, for the first time since she had become so strange and powerful, now looked dead. Her eyes were glazed and sunken in, her craked pale dry lips rested together, her frail weak body trembled with every step Laurx took, and the constant run of blood from the fatal wound on her hand finished it all off. A surge of death passed over Laurx, and in that second laurx stumbled, and fell frightenly hard. Kat flew from her arms landing sprwaled on to the rough gravel on the unpaved raod. The other three heard the snap in kat's arm when it had connected with the ground followed kat's thin body snapping down on top of it. Racx rushed to Kat's side and picked her up with no hesitation, followed by Darkine who grabed kat roughly from racx, a look of pure dread swelled in his eyes,"Hurry" he panted to racx "Were going to see... an old friend" molments later laurx sat dizzly. "Im sorry im sorry" Laurx repeted repeditivly, but she wasnt heard. Darkine, and racx and taken off at a dead run down the gravel road rushing madly to save kat's life.A few hours later, the four were walking along a dimly lit path into the dark damp eerily comforting forest. The blood red sun was slowly creeping up over the horizon, over the tall peaks of the forest trees. Kat looked no better than the night before, but three couldn't take much more them selves. Laurx was still mumbling "I'm sorry," to herself, and was covered on almost every inch of her body, in black and blue bruises from running into trees and walls and tripping over stones as they had rushed along through the chilly dark night. As for Darkine, if he had been human he would have died from loss of blood, but vampire healing ability had its wonderful advantages. Small scars that seemed to be vanishing even as they walked, were the leftovers of countless scratches and cuts from tree branches and rocks that had seemed to be attacking him. Racx was the best looking of them all, minus a few scraps and small bruises, but had also been the one who ended up carrying Kat, as Darkine had been running weak after so much loss of blood. There was no question that all four of them were starving... the blood that they lost was the blood of their last prey...and soon with great loss of blood vampires will die... for they are not capable of producing more blood considering how dead they are, but still each of them looked as if thed eat the next living thing that moved. Suddenly a huge mass of twisted limbs from a large gnarled rowan tree gaze unwelcomingly before them in the near distace of the horizon, and they all watched as it swayedunwieldy in the early morning breeze. A small hastely built, but sturdy looking cottage rested quietly under the looming tree. With a heavy sigh, Darkine gently took Kat from Racx arms and looked at her and Laurx, who could have sworn she saw the slightest sign of relief in his tired worn eyes as he headed with newly found enery twords the calming cottage. "You remember I mentioned an…..old friend, well this is her." Without any more of an explanation he turned swiftly and knocked on the ragged, old wooden door that looked as if it would fall apart with the slightest of touch. The door creeked open unsurely, and the face of a fair skinned maiden apeared from the dim light of candels within the cottage. Darkine bowed heasitently,as her beautiful face molded into a glamous grin, and her dark hair fell gently covering her deep royal blue eyes as she hugged the vampire unafraid. Her smile faded as she looked around at the terriable condition of the vampires and without a word rushed them in, pulling down 3 large bottles and ran off with them into the kitchen. "Who is she?" Laurx asked Darkine quietly. Peering into the kitchen, he answered unsurly "Shes a witch." The group remaind silent, but together Laurx, Kat, and Racx were each busy thinking about how Darkine had managed to meet this witch... normaly witches were agaisnt the vampire race. Seconds later the young witch flowed, her long skirt trailing behind her, from the kitchen holding a platter with five large glasses of blood. Three of the vampires reached up eargly, and drank the cold, distasteful blood passionatly, until they were too full to drink any more... but they still drank. Kat, lying on a pale blue couch flinched as two soft hands sat a silver cup gently between her lips forcing her to drink her share of stale blood. When Kat had had her fill as well she winced in pain, as her hands flew to her head, and as if in chours the witch and Darkine said dully,"It had beguin." Laurx looked at Racx questionably."What has begun, and WHO IS SHE." said Racx incredibly rudely, but frustrated enough to deserve answers. "Ahy" said the witch calmly "I am Aideran the daughter of Aradia, Orgin of all witches, and heir to Diana, Queen of witches." Darkine nodded and smiled at the stunned and appologetic look on racx's face, and laurxs unemotional face.Darkine then introduced each of the girls to the witch, and she answered quite fondly to the vampires with a broad, but pleaste greeting "Merry Meet." The two girls capable of answering nodded, and shook hands with the witch. "As for you racx, Areukin has beguin to haunt kat. If she cannot take her, she will drive her insain... at this very molment Areukin is taunting, teasing, and trying to convince kat that she is nothing... and if you had come any later she would of parished. Please back away, and let me work." With that Darkine led himself out under the Rowan, and the girls followed unwillingly out the deteriating door and into the shade next to darkine. Suddely Racx said "Will you kill her?" Darkine, being caught unaware, looked afraid and helpless as he answered racx. "Kill who?" Racx snapped "Don't be silly, you know who I mean.," She paused and waited for a response, but he still seemed too unaware to do much thinking. "Areukin, are you going to kill her?"she huffed frustiatedly "I...will..." he paused, snapping back ",but you cannot go with me." Racx looked into his glazed silver eyes and answered "I will go" and with her humor she laughed "Im already dead, what can be worse" Darkine smiled slightly, and leaned slowly down twaords racx. He wrapped his arms delicatly around her, and closed the remaining space between their lips. He kissed her lips passionately, but still gently, blushing shyly as he let his arms slipp off her waist and back into his lap, and broke the heavenly kiss unwillingly. Racx looked into his enchanting eyes again, just as laurx begun applauding loudly, and cheering making the two blush wildly. Racx and Darkine smacked laurx on the arm as they all laughed gleefuly, but they fell silent as they waited anxiously for kat. "We will all go Darkine." said laurx breaking the silence "and theres no stopping us." Just then the cottage dorr opened and the anxious witch rushed the group of vampires inside her cottage. As they entered Kat was sitting upright, wiping tears from her eyes, and thanking the witch continuely. No one asked wut happened, but no once figured they should interfer. Darkine spoke sadly "We must leave tho" Aideran nodded,"I know" she walked them slowly to the door and pulled 4 small jugs from her old warn cloak and gave them to Darkine. He nodded thankfully, and as they left the witch waved from her doorway and shouted after the group"Merry part, and blessed be" And from over the hill, out of view you could here the magnificant witches door creeking closed. The group was together again, and they continued on twords Areuken's home. Resting high in the sky, the sun shone down hard on the four as they walked along the branch and debris covered forest ground. Racx, Laurx, and Kat were all still mystified by the beautiful utterly sweet witch. Though, from the brisk and hurried steps Darkine was taking, they decided now was not the time to bother him with foolish stories, that had nothing to do with Areukin. For most of the morning they treaded through th long winding trails of the forest. Above their head, a canopy of trees provided them from the burning heat of the sun.Noises from all different creatures, birds, rats, snakes, bees, echoed throught the trees, bouncing off the tree trunks…..making qhat should have been a alm forest sound like a zoo. The only thing not making noise was the quartet, even their footsteps, though rushed, were light. A deep longing sigh escaped Racx's red lips as unwanted thoughts of her friends and family that had meant so much to her, pushed themselves into her mind. Silent tears came to her as she whispered to herself, "They are as dead as I am, and nothing matters anymore." Laurx looked over with an expression that gave it away that she had heard her friend. Racx looked down and blushed, she hadn't meant for anyone to hear. Laurx walked over and whispered to her, "We have each other, and that may be all, but it's special. You're going to be fine." Then slowly, she drifted back behind the group, back to where she had been walking the whole time. Unlike the others, she was enjoying the chaos of nature, she was in no hurry to run off and kill some wickedly powerful vampires.Noon settled in, and Darkine, in the lead, stopped at a fork in the path. He started down the one that led back to the city, and unsurprisingly to the alleys, but Kat stopped and started the other way. "Look, we have traveled down dark, dank, and small alleys, everytime you take us somewhere, can we please for once stay somewhere where is somewhat pleasant?" As she had been enjoying the raucous forest, Laurx looked at Darkine and nodded in full agreement. He sighed, "I'm sorry but the fastest way to where we are head is in this direction…once this is all over you will have plenty of time to go on nature walks. Heck, you'll have centuries, maybe you'll even get to explore a different planet, but for now we are going this way." Lifting an eyebrow, Racx stated, "Woah, Mr. Pushy, where exactly are we headed, and how do you know that this is the fastest way, I bet you've never even been down that trail?" This time sounding frustrated he said, "No, I haven't been that way. As for where we are headed, it's a place where we can rest, cause its clear that we wall need it." Without another word, he continued down on the path that after a few minutes melted into a cramped smelly alley behind some worn down buildings. Very reluctantly, the girls followed, there steps much heavier and sluggish than before. By sunset they were standing in front of a metal door covered with grafitti, that led to and old worn down warhouse with many of the windows missing, and replaced with boards nailed on this way and that. From one of the broken windows different shades of red flashed vibreltly, and loud rock music shook the woodden floors."We can get a snack here" shouted darkine, over the pusling music. The girls said nothing, because none of them were hungry. They followed Darkine threw a large oaken door and into the warmth of the large rectangular room, jammed full of humans and vampires alike, and hanging above the open door was a large rusted metal sign "Welcome to the Night-Shade lounge. This is a no kill zone. Any vampires who kill human hosts will have to answer to the owner, and will pay for destruction of property." Several vampires with uncombed dark hair, and midnight black eyes hung around the entrance, hulking in there oversized black leather jackets. "Eh! Darkine be it not!" Shouted the biggest of them with a large skull on his shirt, and had a serpant tatooed acrost his left ankel. Hes face was rough with a short black beard, and he carried a large closed pack that was strapped acrost his chest. "Crusher!" he shouted. "Howve you been" darkine called after him.Crushers voice was a low grumble as he said,"Your brothers been hanging around here looking for you, he said to tell you hes gunna stop you." Darkine looked at crusher then tossed a scowl glace at racx, laurx, and kat before replying quietly "Is he here?" Crusher laughed loudly "He just left, lil more than an hour ago... but hes been acting strange lately do you know wuts gotten into him?" Darkine growled at Crusher and turned his back and continued into the midths of the croud, and each of the girls plummeted after him.Racx paused to listen to the music, as the other continued to push their way past the crushing bodies. Unconsciencly, her hips swayed back and forth and her arms moved enchantingly to the music. One of the other vampires came up to her and placed his hands on her hips and started dancing with her. His touch was neough to snap her out of it, she pulled away shoved him away from her. "Back off you jerk, or I'll make you wish you'd never touched me in the first place." She glaredas her dark blue eyes turned to a threatening shade of black. Without waiting to see if he listened or not, she auntered off in the direction Darkine and the girls had headed.

After pushing there way threw the croud, the four regrouped near the back of the large dance room, and waited as darkine opend a hidden metal ware house door slowly. The room beyond the door was dark, and he beconned the girls in, and quickly shut the door behind them. A lamp sat in the corner giving off a dim red light, showing the red walls, the red carpet, and a large cusioned red couch that was placed next to the lamp. A large arched hallway led out of the room into a small square room where 5 doors branched into seprate indivadul sleeping quarters. Darkine pulled up a wooden chair and sat down acrost from the couch. "Take a seat on the couch." He ordered politely. The girls sat down quickly, glad at the chance to rest there feet, and listened carefully as he begun to talk. "Often elete vampires, the higher race of vampires, are born with special talents like my gift of the serpent. There are many different ways of finding out your talent because some need to be praticed, and others will happen naturally. Talents come in all forms, and some are so small that they are barely even considered talents, but only a few of the talents are truely rare and helpful. I have taken you to one of my many lairs to help you discover what your talents are, if you have any, before we face arueken...we will need all the strength in each other that we can get. Are each of you willing to study your talent, and fight areuken with me, if not back down now there is no guarenttee that this will be easy." The girls each looked at eachother questionably, but no one budged, and no one showwed any fear. "So who will not continue?" Darkine questioned. No one said a word, and with that he nodded and showed them each to there rooms. "There are clothes in the closets, theres a bed which you may, or may not use, and there are containers of blood in the fridgerators of each of your rooms. I will get you tomarrow night and we will start." The sun begun to shine threw the darkly tented windows, and each of the girls habbitucally closed the curtins and laid on there beds and thought.

Kat opened her eyes and just lied in her bed blinking for a moment. After a few minutes she dragged her self up, to a sitting position. Still some what asleep, she ambled over to window and drew back the thick black curtains, and Through the darkly tinted windows. Almost night, that means Darkine will be walking in here any minute, getting us so that he can figure out our talents. Shaking here head she sauntered over to the refridgerator and pulled out the container of blood. She had dranked half the night before, and now she guzzled down the remaining half. Placing the empty container back into the fridge, she licked away the few drops of blood that had managed to land themselves at the corner of her mouth rather than down her throat. She sauntered back over to the window as something that was said from last night echoed in her head. "Your brothers been hanging around here looking for you, he said to tell you hes gunna stop you." She shook the thought off, it couldn't be that unusual for vampires to have brothers who don't like them. She gave one last glance at the window, which now had the vague glow of a full moon shinning brightly in the sky. She enjoyed the full moon, as laurx did but neither of them knew why. She missed never being able to see the sun, but as long as the moon still shined she knew she would have something to look forward to every night. A hasty knock inturruped her pleasent thoughts.Quickly she went over and opened it up, to reveal Darkine standing there by himself. "Let's go, your training starts now, but first let me get the other two."Meanwhile Laurx sat in the small reclining chair facing out her window, which she had opend, and she gazed in awe at the beautiful pale shine of the moon. The stars shone brightly above and she wondered if she could count the stars ... she had forever. She sighed as she slowly leaned out of the chair and slowly shut the window so that there was only a dim glow comming in, and the night breeze had stopeed. She waited for darkines knock, but didnt get ready. When he knocked, before opening the door she quickly ran around hastily changing into her clothes, running a brush through her hair, and gulping down the container of blood. Darkine knocked on the door again, this time a little harder. laurx just opened the door, smiled and followed him and Kat down to Racx's door. Unlike Kat and laurx, Racx had still been sleeping when Darkine knocked on her doors. She had opened the door, took one glance at them, then at herself, and slammed in in their faces. After a couple of mintues, Racx came back to the door, dressed with her hair pulled back hastily in a clip. On her lips, there was blood still fresh and wet. She licked it away and shut the door behind her and followed the group down the hall. Finally, after Darkine managed to get everyone awake, he led them into that same red room they had been in earlier. "Look, I don't know how long this will take, but we don't have forever." He smirked at that comment, it sounded so mortal. Yet, they really did have limited time, so he continued. " So I am really going to need you guys to really help me, and do exactly what I ask you to."

Once again they gatherd on the cough facing darkine, quite unsure how they were going to discover there talents. Darkine smiled and handed each on them a small midnight black opal that seemed to steal light from the surroundings making the room darker than it should have been. "Close your eyes and memorize your opals shape, and feel." Darkine commented softly. Each of them fingered there stone, memorizing each groove, and even the dark... evil feel it gave to their hands. The rock was flowing with power, a feeling that they have never recognized before. Laurx was the first to open her eyes, and as if knowing what to do she set the stone on the table gently. Secondly Kat opened her eyes, and after seeing what laurx had done did the same. The silence was defening as they waitied for racx, but she did not set the stone down, unstead she laid the stone gently in the palm of her other hand, and waited for instructions. "Have you memorized your stones?" Asked darkine, not waiting for an answer he replyed, "Alright good. Now it si time for your to go to your rooms, do not rest. Think." Laurx, and Kat left the room slowly, not taking their stone, and when the doors of their room had been shut racx said silently, "This is not my stone." Darkine looked at her couriously, "What do you mean?" She did not answer, but threw the stone at the ground, and it shattered into many pieces, as a mirror would. And from her pocket she drew a small black glimmering opal, then she stood and left not turning around to look at darkines stunned face, and she slammed the door behind her.

Sighing, Darkine reached into his pocket and pulled out a luminous black opal, like the ones he had handed to the girls. He gently ran his fingers over the emerald green etching of a viper. Closing his eyes, he remembered that day when he had gone though what the others were doing now. Alone, in the middle of a dark room, he had sat. The windows had been covered with dark green shades. Around him had been many candles, all of them letting off crimson colored smoke, as his mind had been filled with glorious images of death, evil, and oddly enough serpents. A startling warm sensation had crept over his hand, and soon enough, began to burn. The same feeling had crept up onto the upper part of his left arm. When he opened his silver eyes, they flashed a vibrant green for a fraction of a second. As he looked down he'd seen this beautiful carving of a viper, ready to attack, etched into that plain black opal he had been concentrating on so intensely. Putting it in his other hand, he saw that same viper, burned into his palm. On his left arm was a tattoo of a deadly black snake coiled up ready to strike. Pulling out of the memory, he smiled, but it faded quickly. He could only hope that these girls had powers that would prove useful to his plans, otherwise…Well he could decide that later, if it by chance need a decision.

Kat had gone into her room and laid quietly on the soft, crismon pillows on the queen size bed.She closed her eyes gently but heeding darkines words did not sleep. Her fingers traced the stone slowly as her mind lost conceness , and entered an awareness unlike she had ever experienced before. Her fingers, legs, feet... everything went numb and the only thing that could be felt outside of the deeper awareness was the steady movement of her diaphram. Visions of the past flashed before her eyes, as if rewinding her life ... almost as if it was searching for something in side of her... something different that was rarely discovered or even aquired in many of people searching for power. The sound of the night seemed to fade into the distace as energy swept threw kat, filling every inch with a the tingling warmth of well being. Kats jaws relaxed as she slipped even deeper into unconcieness, and her eyelids sised to flutter as suddenly her past froze, and a fond memory shone translucently threw the mind. A single drawn star rested in a sky of black, and a white candle flickered gently against the horizen. A gente breeze passed and whispered to a sleeping child, "Earth." and with that the wind died and memory was lost to a blazing flame. Kat jumped awake, leaning against the bedpost panting... startled from the fire that burned the calmness from her mind, and she knew.

At the exact same molment laurx jumped out of bed franticly, not understanding what happened. She had seen exactly what Kat had seen with out trying, but somehow she knew that they were bonded in some way that could not be described. The flames that had engulfed kats memory frightened laurx as she crawled back under the silky sheets of the midnight black bed. Once again laurx was drowning in the same sudective feeling kat had seconds before, but this time they were her own. Memorys of her childehood flashed before her showing smiles, and happiness that she had forgotten over the short while of being a vampire. Unconsinecly she sighed, and the movement of her breathing became habbit, finaly an unseddling darkness rode over her mind as she sat intranced. A flahback replayed itself in her mind. It was herself looking out her small window up to a full moon, and as she turned her back she saw shadows dancing on glisning white walls from the flames of the small black candle that had been gently sat in the center of the floor. The room was all white, A star was drawn in red on the pale wall of the closet, and above the star was a small inprinted word. She read it aloud to herself quietly, "Water." Silenced echoed after the word until a powerful gust of air rose from nowhere and the flames of the black candle blew out.

Kat slowly opened her eyes from her own room, not relizing that she had managed to fall back to sleep. She had the vivid memory of the black candle flutter and die out, but she didnt think anything of it, unknowingly the two girls both raced out there doors, and slammed face first into each other as they ran from there rooms. They giggled sielntly a second, and both disapeared into Kats room, not wanting to desturb racx if she hadn't discovered her power.

Laurx pulled up her black pants, and looked at her right ankle, and kat did the same for her left. On each of the girls ankle a small barely visable scar formed. Kats scar was the left side of a star created with 3 points, but laurxs was the right side of the star created by 3 points. Two of the points on each of the scars were different, but the top point would over lap if they were placed together. Kat, and laurx both thought to them selves how strange it was, but they didnt think more about it.

Racx sat on the edge of her bed…tossing the silly cold simple black stone back and forth, as she had the day she had first found it lying in the alley. Alleys…we seem to live in those dumb alleys…I swear…well they do come complete with shelter and food…, she thought, as a wicked grin spread across her face. Concentrating was becoming a real problem. Laughter echoed down the hall, and faded slowly as a door shut. Thinking was not becoming any easier. Not at all. Whatever her thoughts had been on only moments before, were now lost among the other floating idead that had never fulley settled within her mind. Sighing heavily she rested her head against the satin scarlet pillows, and tried concentrating on the ceiling, which like everything else in her new life, was black as death. She lay there for hours, long after her friends had ceased their giggling and returned to their own rooms. "Great, they have powers…and what do I have..nothing., and a craving for a snack." She heaved herself up from the bed and trudged her way over to the refridgerator. A new container of blood had been placed in there, and greedily she snatched it out and began chugging it down. Unconsciouncly.she still had the opal in her hand, and as soon she she had drunk half of the container of blood…her mind began to turn to mist. Falling from her hand, the glass hit the ground send shardes of glass and blood all over the carpet, and Racx collapsed to the ground. The mist that had begun in her mind, spread through her body, taking her away to that unseen world of lost memories and deep desired. Darkness greeted her as she opened her eyes. Her head felt like a twisting endless maze, like she couldn't find exactly what she was looking fro in her thoughts.

Shapes began to take form, as a dim light settled in. She felt like she was watching a dream..the edge of her vision was blurred, and the objects before her seeme fuzzy, and incomplete. An alley began to take shape finally, and the smell of cigarettes filled her senses. Without thinking, Racx went to play with her opal to calm her nerves, but where it should have been…a cigarette now took its place. Anxiety began to set in as Racx frantically tried to focus her mind on what was going on. Suddenly, two figures she had mistaken for lamp posts began to move. "I've been here before…this alley…these people…only…weren't there three of them…," She began to shake, and wished desperately she could escape whatever she had manged to get herself into. As if in response to her wish, the scene before her flickered then died out like the flame of a candle.

Out of no where, in the endless darkness, a creature lunged at her with teeth as sharp as daggers, and eyes as red as blood. Racx shut her eyes tight, and only when she wasn't dead, did she open them….and there suspened in midair…like a photo, was large beast. Still in its positon to attack, it sat there motionless. Slowly, Racx extened her hand and touched its cold dead flesh. Immediately she jerked her hand back as a searing pain surged through her back, on the upper right side. At almost the same instant a flame arose upon the side of the beast, and as it faded, Racx could make out a rose with a pair of burning eyes staring out from it…and from one petal a drop of blood hung there.

She woke up, blanketed in a cold sweat, her hands were shaking, and the blood from her glass was splattered all over her. She didn't care what she had promised earlier….if finding her dumb power meant falling into a deep abyss of nightmares, then she wanted out. She pulled herself up off the floor…and just stood there, at loss of the world around her.

.THE ENDING

Kat, laurx, and Racx eased into the soft, damp grass, each running their hand gently over the overgrown, soft young weeds that grew boldly, stretching into the gloomy night. The cool, summer breeze teased each girls hair, tangling it slightly as it passed. The pale light of the cresent moon shined agisnt their tear glazed eyes, as they sat motionless in a morbid silence, and There minds swirled as they sat, intranced, in their own world of thoughts, memorys, hurt, and pain. The darkness was deafening, the thoughts that echoed, screamed, tore, and ripped violently, scaring each girl from the inside, was enough to drive even the strongest human crazed, and insain. It's thoughts that deep, dark, and secret that forever remain unsaid, that haunt, and destroy...Minds are powerful, they lie to themselves, comfert themselves, yet worst of all they betray themselves in the end it is our worst enemy. The girls lonliness struck deep, and deepend with every brooding thought, slowly it welded, twisted, and tangled its self deep within their deepest scar.

Wild wind swirled around the three girls, their hair flew with the gusts, and leaves rained from the drooping trees. The weeds shivered, as the combe of wind brushed acrost the swaying hills, and the demonatic voice of the groaning trees mocked the girls "Nobody cares, give up. Nobody cares...." but the voice echoed in there minds long past its frighting voice had lingered molmentarily, then glided off into the darkness upon the rushing winds. They haddent a choice but to move on, they haddent even the choice to die, their sunken, red eyes, and tear stained faces hung like a willow's branches as they slowly lifted their sore bodys, and continued down the forgotten, over grown path twords nothing. There was nothing to look forward too, there was nothing to look back on, and in time their nothingness would devour them all, but into the darkness the group still stumbled along, forever, alone. The burden of choice weighed them down like an achor, as they dissapeared into the haunting mess of shadows, and twisted limbs. With that the three shadowlike figures of the last vampires faded from sight, and dissapeared... never to be seen again.
