Losers Unite!

Is there anybody out there who wants to work, but too picky to go for that fast food restaurant job? How about the people who want to work based on the degree and skills that you have earned just to find out that those skills aren’t enough? What happens when you refuse to be at the bottom of the barrel? You get stuck under the barrel with no money and no happiness, and let’s not forget that there’s a barrel on your head.

Now what? What comes next? How about the internet? That’s a great idea. Let’s search for a job. J-O-B. The search results come up with many different articles about what people have achieved, jobs that we aren’t qualified for and many different sites promising 5, 6, even 7 hundred dollar a week paychecks, WOW! We’ll click on $700 a week paychecks. Stuff envelopes and try to find vendors to sell them to. I understand now, they’re just promoting senseless drivel.

Nothing on the internet, let’s check the classifieds in our local newspaper. Here’s a job that might work: Part-time research associate for about $10 per hour, experience preferred. Oh well, let’s look some more. Delivery driver, no… line cook, no… telemarketing…

Is anything worth doing? To be a clothes salesperson you don’t need to know anything about fashion, for that matter, it seems that the only people who do know anything about fashion are supermodels and celebrities. To be a journalist you have to have prior experience with writing, excluding college. To be a model you have be pretty. Where do the limitations end?

Here’s the reality: We need to have jobs or be considered worthless losers. Plus, money is root of all evil. How many times have you heard that? Every time I think about it, I realize that I hate money, but can’t live without it. I have no money now but I plan on getting some after I have worked at a job that I haven’t found yet. Does this make sense? Is it all getting through?

If you can understand what has been going around like a carousel in my head for weeks now, I suggest that we losers unite. Granted, we aren’t losers at all, we just don’t have simple answers to simple questions like, “Why don’t you have a job,” or, “How do you pay for rent?” Unification can make us strong again and it will be like a support group for alienated job hunters. Just join me and we can turn the world on its nose. We can write articles suggesting more realistic standards for potential job seekers. We can protest fashion, sell our plasma, or even change our names into one word form like Madonna, Piccolo or Tarlok (that’s me).

Maybe we can do that, or maybe we can just try to get that job at the pizza place for little to no satisfaction. Either way, Good Hunting!
