What is a Blog?
To paraphrase my favorite local journalist, Dave Bakke, the days of jotting down your daily thoughts in a notebook and stuffing it in a sock drawer are over. A simple search on Google will give you an endless amount of definitions as to what a Blog really is. Let’s start with the basics. Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is simply a site that is updated and retrievable by time. (In my case, you can cycle though posting by the month.)

My definition of a Blog is a bit more revealing. Labeling it an on-line diary really wouldn’t do it justice. I consider it my own person soapbox on which I can rant and rave like a lunatic as much as my little heart desires. There’s a feeling as if you’re shouting your state of mind for the whole world to hear, but the safety in knowing that you can retain a sense of anonymity.

I started my Blog I suppose as a way to vent to an unknown audience. The little hit counter at the bottom of the page assures me that someone is in fact reading my nonsense, but I take comfort in not knowing exactly who the prying eyes belong to.

What types of Blogs are there?
There’s a massive amount of Blogs out there ranging from personal sites to those that deal with Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. There’s a trend in political blogging such as the slightly not right (but left) minded Wonkette.

What do I write in a Blog?
Whatever comes to mind is the best answer I can think of. Blogs aren’t meant to be Pulitzer Prize winners. Brainstorming with a computer and decent typing skills is an excellent recipe for instant Blogging success. I know that when I’m armed with a keyboard and lingering mind there’s no limit to what I’ll come up with.

How can I create a Blog?
I’ll try to be unbiased here and not mention that Angelfire has a FREE Blogging tool that is very user friendly. With your free account comes a decent amount of webhosting space and bandwidth (in laments terms you can post a multitude of pictures and not worry about having that pretty red X there instead of an image). There are other popular cites such as Livejournal and BlogSpot, both of which offer their limited services for free.
