Hello and welcome to my junks and stuff. This is my first website, so bear with me. This site is dedicated to anime, video games, RPG's, The Matrix, and whatever all else I decide to throw in here. The City of Hiroshima By: Colin Smith The city of Hiroshima was first truly brought into the public’s eye when the atom bomb was dropped on it. The bomb that was dropped came from the B-29 bomber, Enola Gay and was dubbed the Little boy. During WWII, Hiroshima was a city of major military importance. The reason being, that it housed the 2nd Army HQ, which commanded the defense of the whole of Southern Japan. Hiroshima was also a storage point, communication center, and an area for troop assembly. Hiroshima was originally founded in 1589, on the coast of the Seto Sea, and quickly became a major urban center in Japan. The city of Hiroshima evolved into a major city during the Meiji Period, which brought about, not only the world power status of Japan, but also ended the feudal system of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Currently, the city has a status of “peace memorial city” and as such, the government supports the abolishment of all nuclear weapons and, more generally, world peace. Hiroshima also has its own baseball team: The Hiroshima Toyo Carp. This team name, like the majority of teams’ names, are derived from the names of their corporate owners. Interestingly, The only team, out of the twelve official baseball teams, to use it’s city’s name is the Yokohama Baystars, which uses their city’s name exclusively.
