Time Line -
Shortly after Micheal Graves match on Anarchy.
Something went wrong, I could
feel it. It felt as though I couldn't breath. As I walked backstage,
one of the road agents came to my aid. He must have noticed the pain I
was in.
Road Agent
Micheal, is something wrong?
Micheal Graves
I... (gasp) think I.. (gasp)
broke a...(gasp) rib.
The road agent lead me towards
the EMTs who were present at every show, just in case something went
wrong. I took a seat beside of their Ambulance as they began checking
me out. The EMTs were asking me all sorts of questions, like where it
hurt, and it I was having trouble breathing. The answers, I thought,
were obvious, but apparently not. They began poking, and feeling around
my rib cage, until they came to a rather tender spot. As the EMT
pressed against my ribs I couldn't help but jerk painfully. This was
just great. Not only did I lose my chance at going after the Canadian
Title, but now I was injured as well. This was turning out to be a
perfect night... (Note the sarcasm) It wasn't so much the fact that I
lost, I could deal with that, hell it's not like it was the first time
I lost a match before. It was more along the lines of, well everything
just seems to be going sour for me lately. Suddenly I saw my brother,
Sean Graves walking towards my direction. He had a look of concern on
his face, like I would expect anything else form him.
Sean Graves
What's going on, are you ok?
Micheal Graves
...No
Sean could tell I was having
trouble speaking, so he turned his attention to the Road Agent who had
helped me to the EMTs.
Sean Graves
What's going on?
Road Agent
Calm down, I think he just
broke a rib, we're going to take him to the hospital for some x-rays.
Sean
Graves
all right, let's go!
Micheal Graves
No... (gasp) You have a (gasp)
...match to win. (gasp)
Road Agent
He's right Sean, you need to
stay here. Listen, I'll ride with Micheal, and I will phone in after we
get the results back and let you know what's going on.
Sean Graves
Ok... Micheal I'll be right
there after my match ok?
I didn't want to speak anymore,
it was too painful. I just looked up to Sean and nodded my head. Sean
stood there and watched as the EMTs helped me into the ambulance. I
laid back on the gurney as the EMTs shut the doors to the ambulance and
we began down the road. It took all of ten minutes to make it to the
hospital, though it felt more like hours. I was starting to get used to
the pain now, but it wa still hard to take a breath. After waiting
about twenty minutes for a doctor to come take a look at me, I was
finally off to be X-rayed. My X-rays showed that I did indeed have a
fractured rib, and on top of that, my right lung had been punctured.
The doctor gave me something called acetaminophen to ease the pain. I
was also instructed to cough on a regular basis to prevent secretions from
pooling in the lung causing pneumonia. I was also asked to stick around
for an few hours so the doctor could monitor me. I agreed, after all
I'm not stupid. Shortly after last talking to the Doctor, Sean walked
in. He still looked concerned, but I just smiled through the pain to
try and ease his mind.
Sean
Graves
How are you doing bro?
Micheal Graves
to be honest, I've been...
better.
I was still having a hard time
breathing, but it wasn't as bad as when this first happened.
Sean
Graves
So, are your ribs broken?
Micheal Graves
I have a fractured rib, and...
my lungs punctured.
Sean
Graves
I guess I will have to talk to
Shane (Carver) about our Tag match. There's no way you can defend the
titles in the shape your in.
Micheal Graves
No, I'll make it through.
Sean
Graves
You can't be serious?
Micheal Graves
Really, I have a week to
relax, I... I'll be fine.
Sean
Graves
Mike, your hardly able to talk
as it is, how are you going to defend yourself against Blizzard and
Nitro?
Micheal Graves
That's who we're defending
against?
Sean
Graves
Yeah, I noticed the booking
sheet on the way out.
Micheal Graves
Speaking of Anarchy... Did you
win?
Judging by the look on Seans
face, I already knew the answer before he even said a word.
Sean
Graves
No, no I didn't.
Micheal Graves
Dude that sucks.... Looks like
we both fell short tonight huh?
Sean
Graves
Don't try and change the
subject Micheal.
Micheal Graves
What? I'm not...
Sean
Graves
Yes you are, and back on
subject, your not wrestling next week. Even if Shane decides to make me
defend the titles by myself.
Micheal Graves
Sorry Sean... But I am
defending the titles.
Sean
Graves
How can you be serious!?! Look
at you, there's no way you'll be able to survive next week Micheal,
just take the time off!
Some of the hospital staff that
was near the room suddenly looked in. Mostly quick glances, but one
nurse came up and shit the door. I guess our arguing was disputing the
other patents.
Micheal Graves
Sean, listen, I'll... I'll be
fine. I've Wres...tled through worse...
Silence. That's all I heard.
Sean didn't continue arguing with me, he just turned around and stared
at the wall. I know he is only worried about my health, but I am
worried about something else. I am worried about losing our Tag Titles.
I know Shane Carver isn't going to cancel our match, that's not his
style. And even though Sean and I both faced defeat tonight. I wanted
to make sure it didn't happen again. How much help would I be next
week? That was a question I didn't know the answer to. Maybe I could
pull it off without a hitch, but somehow common since told me
otherwise. I knew I was asking for pain next week, but weighed in the
balance of my personal health, and doing anything I can to keep the Tag
Team Titles, the titles meant more.
Sean
Graves
all right, but I'll lead the
match.
Finally the silence was broken!
Micheal Graves
So, I just sit back and watch?
Sean
Graves
Pretty much.
Micheal Graves
Sean, I know these titles...
mean alot to you. They mean a hell of alot to me... Personally I don't
want to lose them... and I'm sure you feel the same way...
Sean
Graves
Yes, I do. You know that I'm
proud to carry these titles, just as much as you are, if not more.
Micheal Graves
Then please Sean... if there's
anything, anything at all... that I can do next week... Let me.
Sean lets out a deep sigh.
Sean Graves
I'll tell you what. Let's wait
until next week and see how well your doing, if I think your up to it,
we'll see.
Micheal Graves
Deal...
Sean
Graves
Ok, I'm going to step out for
a few, are they keeping you over night?
Micheal Graves
No, I just need to stay for a
few hours.
Sean
Graves
all right, I'll be back soon
to pick you up.
Micheal Graves
Ok Sean, take it easy...
Sean nodded and walked out the
door. I could tell that he was still upset over my stubbornness. Oh
well I though, he'll get over it. He knows how I am, shit, he's almost
the same person... almost.
