Last night, after Massacre, I was surprised to see my old pal Terry Blackstone waiting for me in the locker room. It had been months since I had last spoke with Terry, and the last place I expected to hear from him was in the XWF. you see, not too long ago, Terry removed himself from the world of wrestling. His wife was sick, his son was out of control, and his life was pretty much in shambles. So to see him waiting for me after the show was a shock in itself. Later that night, we met at a bar to grab a few drinks, a bite to eat, and talk about the possibility of Terry coming aboard as my manager again. I was always best with him, so I knew the answer well before I told him, I just didn't want to seem too eager or anything. After we left the bar, I decided to go and find a hotel for tonight, I could travel tomorrow I thought. At that point in time, all I was concerned about was getting some sleep. Problem is, once I finally did check into a room, I couldn't sleep. Something was troubling me. I asked myself, why would Terry want to come back so soon after leaving? It couldn't be the money, I'm sure he invested well through the years, and although I consider our friendship to be a strong one, I doubt he would come back just to help further my career. I lied in bed all night, trying to figure out exactly why Terry had came to me, but I didn't have the answer, I didn't have a clue. Morning came quick. I was only a few hours away when I first checked into the room, but still, those few hours seemed to pass by like minutes. I decided that I wasn't getting any sleep tonight, or this morning I guess. So I went ahead and checked out of the room. I had a five hour drive ahead of me to get to an autograph signing at some small time comic shop, but at least I had more then enough time to get there. First thing was first, I needed to call Keith. I had got his cell phone number from him last night after Massacre. I didn't have time to talk to him then, but now was my opportunity. I went out of my way to make sure we would be teaming this week, I never thought we would be getting a shot at going to Anarchy, much less getting Tag team title shots, but hey, that's how things roll in XWF. It is now 9:04am I have already checked out of my room, and I am sitting in a small mom and pops diner eating grits and beacon. I figure now is a good of a time as any to call Keith. Something told me he might not be awake yet, but oh well, if he's asleep and I wake him, he'll get over it. I pulled out my blue Nokia phone from my jacket. It was the cheapest phone they had when I first signed up for service. Man, did I need a raise or what? I scrolled down on my contacts list, and finally came upon Keith's name. Funny thing is, it was directly under Destiny's name. I needed to call her. We hadn't spoken since September. She thought we needed some time apart. And I thought differently. Of course I threw a big fit, and said some things I regret, but that's my nature, I'm not a nice guy. She knew that when she got involved with me, and when I explained that too her, what did she say? She told me, if I really loved her, I would be able to change. I sat there looking at Keith's number on my phone, I was one button away from connecting with him, but now Destiny was on my mind. I mean, I want to change for her, I thought. I really do. But it's not easy. I can't just snap my fingers and be a different guy. I'm an asshole, born and bread. But I am trying, and I want nothing more then to call her, to hear her voice. To tell her how much I still love her, and how sorry I am for everything I said. Something deep inside me won't let me though. I'm not quite sure why, but calling Destiny is not an option right now, I won't allow myself to do it. Finally I snap out of the trance I'm in, and I look back towards my phone. The time on it says 9:25am. I finally press the button on my phone to connect. I pull the cell phone up to my ear as it begins to ring. Ring . .. Ring . .. Ring . Finally somebody answered. On the other end of the phone was a tired voice. Micheal Graves Hi Keith, did I wake you? .... Micheal Graves It's me, Micheal, listen man, I know the other week we had that little spat, like I told you Monday, don't worry about it, all is forgiven. Right now, I just want us to focus on winning this Tag match next week. I know your new, but a shot at the Tag Titles, and a move over to Anarchy is a big deal. .... Micheal Graves Yeah man, this is the first step towards greatness in this company. .... Micheal Graves Because you've got talent. I saw that the other week when we first tagged up. Listen, I really think we have a shot at those titles, but in order to have that shot, we need to work together. .... Micheal Graves Do I know who? .... Micheal Graves Sorry man, I've never heard of this "CC" character. Now, it could possibly be Chris Cage or "C2" Christian Connolly, but they are both on Anarchy. .... Micheal Graves Great man, Listen, I'm going to finish up with breakfast, then I have an autograph signing about five hours from here. So I'll drop you a line later, ok bro? .... Micheal Graves Nothing, I call everyone bro, or man. .... Micheal Graves all right, later man. .... As I ended the call, I thought to myself, at least he's interested in the match now. I finished my meal, and headed out the door. I had a long way to go, and I was beginning to run our of time to get there. ![]() |
