Sliding into the worn leather seats of the almost empty cafe', Buffy sighed at the noise the material made under her weight. So what if it was barely any weight, she was currently working on that, having suffered many long lectures from her watcher turned father about her poor eating habits and lack of pounds.
That said, she was brought to this current place. She had the same routine every night. She would leave Giles' house, go patrol (not that it was currently needed, seeing as how Giles' neighbor Samantha had turned out to be a slayer), stop at the cafe' to binge on English coffee, finish patrolling and go home.
Remembering the first time she had come into this little cafe' she smiled. It was a cool night and she had been fruitless in her patrol. (Damn that Samantha!) She walked in and asked for a cup of joe and Ruth, her now regular waitress looked at her as if she had two heads.
"Coffee? You want coffee? In England?" She had asked and Buffy had blushed at her inquiry.
"Yes, Giles keeps tea and I swear if I have to drink one more cup, I will turn into a tea bag." She had sworn. Ruth raised an eye at the mention of Giles. 'Who?' she wondered and was brought back to the customer at hand.
"I would really like a cup of coffee, if you have some."
"I'll see what I can find Miss." Ruth smiled, walking off into the distance, laughing at the petite girl and her satisfied facial expression. When the cup finally arrived, her first sip went down like water to a starving man or blood to a starved vampire. The cup never failed to be ordered during the cafe's night shift, along with a plate of freshly baked chocolate chipped cookies.
Lifting the porcelain to her lips she almost choked at the bitter taste. She hadn't put any sweetener in the liquid. Reaching across the brown wooden table she found only sugar and other condiments. Sighing at her sweetener-deprived bin, she scanned the restaurant for Ruth. She knew that sugar was there and would do the job but at what cost. Sweetener = 0 calories and still packed the punch it's predecessor did. Getting Ruth's attention she made her request.
"Right Buffy, I'll send someone right over." She winked at her favorite customer before scurrying off to unknown parts.
Relaxing back into the seat she stared down into the deep dark liquid that reminded her of deep dark pools of chocolate goodness that were her Angel's eyes. She sighed once more; knowing hat it had been a year since they had last seen one another and another 2 months since they had last spoken. Their last conversation had been heavy on her least favorite topic: them. They had made no decisions and could nly come to two agreements: 1) They were still madly in love with each other and 2)They missed each other like crazy.
She still didn't know when she would be back to the states, but every night, the tug he had on her heart pulled her closer and closer to England's shores. She knew it wouldn't be long before she had to break down and face some facts. The first being that she and Angel were a forever kinda thing and that even apart, they were still together. The other was that she was quickly realizing that England could never make a permanent home for her. It was stuffy and rained all the time and the people, though nice, were too sophisticated acting and her biggest problem of it all was that it didn't have an insanely gorgeous vampire with spiky brown hair and a lop-sided grin that could melt the soul.
Losing herself in her thoughts, she didn't hear Ruth approach and or hear Ruth when she first spoke.
"Huh?" She said, shaking her head from her thoughts.
"Honey, I said, here's your sweetener." She repeated and Buffy raised her head and gasped.
"Must be new packaging or wrapping. I gotta be sure to check on that." Ruth winked and smiled, walking away.
Buffy stood quickly and flung herself into her lovers waiting arms He held her tightly, chuckling at her display.
"Miss me?" His velvety voice asked, caressing her skin.
"More than you'll ever know. How did you know where to fond me?' s he asked, pulling back slightly to look at him.
Leaning back in to her ear he whispered, "If I were blind I would see you." He pulled away and smirked, "That and this is the only place for miles that serve coffee at this time of night."
She smiled then, really smiled as the sat back down.
"Where’s my sweetener?" She asked, her face losing its playful demeanor. He became confused, his face a mask of blankness.
"Huh?" he asked. "Oh, it's right here, I forgot to..."
She leaned over the table, taking him by the lapels of his jacket and kissed him soundly. Pulling back she licked her lips.
"Damn, sweet as ever, must be the wrapping." She said huskily and smiled as he bent forward again to take her lips in his.
