Music! Music! Music
To some people music is background noise. To some it's a way of life. For me it's so much more than the first, no where near the 2nd. I don't remember any age in my life when I wasn't listening to music and wishing I could create it. Sadly, to this day I can't read music and can only play a cd player, tape player or sometimes a vhs tape or dvd. I am somehow able to remember the basic scales Mrs. Craig, our elementary school music teacher, taught me when I was a kid.
To borrow from Mrs. Craig's oldest son, Tony: "Often without realizing it, we go through life creating emotional associations through our most influential senses." When he wrote this it was in reference to music in relation to animation (something else I love :-) in an article for "Animation World Magazine". {{Full article here:
Animation and Music}} For me, sound more than anything else triggers founts of memories and the emotions associted with them. And even on a day to day basis the music I have playing on my CD player can effect my mood: Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, or Mozart when I need to really focus on the numbers; Nickel Creek when I'm stressed and just want my day to be a little calmer; The Red Elvises are great for a Friday that just seems to be dragging. Then of course in the car, I have to be singing. My CD case is essential for a road trip - Rockapella is usually playing then, but there's also Vinx, 10,000 Maniacs, The Coats, Sting. All great for the singing. And who my age can't say that we don't LOVE 80's music? Admit it! Good or bad, those songs bring up memories of the past.
I made this page, which is pretty much just links. Two of them are to my "fan pages" then from there you can find an offical site. After that it's just links to offical sites. Since lots of the artists are from the world of Contemporary Acapella, most people haven't heard of. Throw away your pre-conceptions and given them a listen.
So here's a bunch of links to what I love, what I still listen to, what I'm just now discovering. My hope is that this page will just grow and grow and grow........
