Our campsite on Homer Spit. Taken at 290847R July 2002, as we are breaking camp.

After we got everything out of the tent, we went hunting for breakfast. We were looking for a place that wasn't too formal. We had a great breakfast at a reasonable price. After breakfast, we walked around a bit more, then headed back to our campsite.

We got on the road shortly after this picture was taken. We were on our way to our next major stop: Seward.

Leaving Homer Spit heading to Seward. Camped on the beach overlooking the Pacific [Cook Inlet] last night. Harding Icefield and Redoubt Volcano in perfect view due to clear sunny skies. Arrived in Homer last evening about 8:30pm and parked car on beach where we later pitched our tent. Took a long walk around the town and walked past the logging and chipping business at the pier. Most shops were closed -- a few restaurants serving food and drinks opened well past 11:30pm. We returned to the car, put up the tent, and made dinner -- soup, crackers, cheese, and wine. We enjoyed the warm, bug-less, wind-less evening and the incredible vistas of water, ice, and rose colored sunset-lit sky. This morning, we awoke at 8:30am. Lorraine heard pounding surf of high tide coming in about 4:48am. Ate breakfast at the Happy Face Restaurant and lounged away the morning. We watched the Tustumena Ferry depart for Kodiak -- a trip that Lorraine really wanted to do, but schedules would not allow if we were going to make the 13th Inuit Studies Conference on the 1st.

We drove back up the Sterling Highway, through Ninilchik, Kasilof, and Soldotna. We decided to take Skilak Lake Road as a detour. I highly recommend the road, but it is gravel, so be prepared to slow down and enjoy the scenery.
