1118 ADT, Sunday, 28 July 2002

Woke up late -- got up ~0930. Rained a little last night. Very nice temperature. Some mosquitoes and flies. All packed up and ready to go. Nice picture of us across the road from our campsite.

All through this day, we're driving the Sterling Highway. On our way to Homer, we drove to Hope, got coffee at the Seaview Cafe and Bar, and walked around a bit. The wind was blowing along Turnagain Arm, so it was a bit chilly. Very interesting and historic town, with great views, including ones of Turnagain Arm.

We also drove through Anchor Point, the most westerly point on the contiguous North American Highway System.

1750 ADT

Just completed our lunch stop at the City of Kenai. Ate down by the city docks overlooking Cook Inlet. Redoubt Volcano in clear view. Picked up some bread, grapes, hot cocoa and tortillas/beans at Carr's, which was bought out by Safeway. Grapes were $0.99/lb from California -- larger and cheaper than home. In fact, most prices were comparable to home. This was a surprise to us because we expected this typical Alaskan markup. We are now driving south on Kalifornsky Beach Road heading to Homer.
