2200 [ADT], Thursday, 1 August 2002. Got to Elmendorf AFB last evening. VOQ is nice -- and affordable ($22.50). Went out to a nice meal at a nice Mexican restaurant on E. 4th St. Record high temperature in Anchorage yesterday. Nice day again today. Lorraine went to the first day of her conference today; I spent the time up to 1430 checking out UAA. Lorraine was done at 1430 -- we went to the bookstore and library. It's a nice campus -- the design is especially suited to the climate. Much of the campus is connected by a long passageway. After walking around a bit, we went to an evening program at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. A potluck dinner started at 1830. After we ate, we walked around the outdoor exhibits. The King Island Dancers and Singers of Anchorage started a show at 2030. Very nice demonstration of native culture.
