Welcome to the University of Richmond Equestrian Team's Homepage!

The University of Richmond Equestrian Team provides riding, showing, and horsemanship opportunities for riders of all levels.

Riders have the option of taking lessons once or twice a week. Lessons are at the Swiftcreek School of Equitation, a barn about 20 minutes away from campus. Riders with similar abilities are placed together in lessons. The cost of a set of 10 lessons is $250, although the team has been able to help out and pay for part of the lesson fee in past semesters because of fundraising.

This year, we offer two separate riding opportunities: our Riding Club, where riders can recreationally ride, and our Show Team, a more competetive level of riding. The Show Team competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. According to IHSA rules, riders don't bring their own horses to shows. Instead, we ride the hosting team's horses (horses are randomly assigned to riders before the show). This is a unique aspect of IHSA, because no warm-up time is allowed on the horse. Both flat and jumping classes are offered at shows, dependant on a rider's ability. Each semester the team competes in anywhere from three to five horse shows. Other teams in our region include: Mary Washington College, Sweetbriar College, University of Maryland, Goucher College, Hood College, Mt. St. Mary's College, Saint Mary's College, and the College of William and Mary. The UR team hosts a show each year in November.

Team dinners, meetings, fundraisers, and lots of hard work put in to make our home show a success bond the team together. We work hard, play hard, and have tons of fun doing it. If you are a seasoned rider or would just love to ride, UR's Equestrian Team is a great experience!
