Splashdam Free Will Baptist Church

History
Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church was organized in 1948 following a tent revival held in Haysi by the Reverends Jack Kiser, Enoch Rose, Lonzo Edwards, Alva Dingus and others.  Brothers Alva Dingus and Lonzo Edwards were very active in organizing the church.
At first the congregation met in the local union hall and later in an old storehouse until the “Flood of ‘57” washed the building away. Meetings were held in various places until April 1959 when a dwelling house was purchased near the site of the present church. Partitions were removed and the little house was transformed into a church.
God blessed Splashdam Church tremendously and when it outgrew its little house and a new and larger church house was built. In September 1965 services were held in the church we called home for the past 35 years. God continued to bless, the church continued to grow, and in 1975 new Sunday School rooms were added downstairs. The rooms upstairs were removed to expand the chapel.
God continued adding to the church and in 1980 a fellowship hall and Sunday School rooms were added on the back side of the church. As the congregation continued to grow, part of this area was used to seat the overflowing crowd each Sunday.
Because of God’s bountiful blessings, a new church house has been built. Our first Bible Study in the new church was on December 6, 2000 and the first Sunday Worship Service was on December 10, 2000.
Always remember: The “Church” is a group of Christians banded together to worship and glorify God and his son Jesus Christ. We invite you to come each Sunday and worship with us.
