I had wanted a dog for a long time and with the new age technology I hit the web. When I saw Princess’s picture (now Lexie) I knew I had to have her. I was not looking for a specific breed; there was something about her though. So I tore through the JR Rescue page reading and reading and reading some more. I got my facts together. I am a full time college student along with my roommate and this was a big factor in my decision in getting Lexie. Everything I read said these dogs are active. So I talked with my roommate and my family. My roommate and I were very excited. We decided since our schedule were so opposite the Lexie would work in our lives. Then the next battle, we live in an apartment. JR’s need to expel their energies. I thought the apartment would be a minor set back. I filled out the application and began speaking with Sandy. She agreed that an apartment was not the best place, but somehow I convinced her it would be okay. She approved me with the understanding Lexie would need to get out. One Saturday my father and I rode about 3 hours to get Lexie. She was so friendly. She immediately came to me and was very excited to see me. The 1st thing I noticed was Lexie’s huge ears sticking straight up. We sat together for a while as I filled out a few more forms. The car ride home she sat in my lap and licked me to death. Kinda like, “Boy, mom it’s about time you got here.” It has been about six months and I have learned Lexie has a personality. She smiles and grins and loves shoes. However, you also know when she is not happy. We had a battle with re-potty training in her new home. This was part of her attitude problem! I strongly suggest getting to know your veterinarian and your vet getting to know your dog. We are working on the good old fashion commands. She is doing well. My life now? Is full of fun and Lexie is full of life. Lexie kindly gives me a wake up call when she pounces on me, pulls the covers back, and kisses me. She is a great alarm clock, but after I finally get up she takes the warm spot. Our week entails walks around the block and over to the park. My roommate and Lexie like to head to the beach together to study and play a little ball. They also like to ride to the bank where Lexie gets free treats! Right before bed, Lexie and I have our girl talk and she tends to get a good massage. She lets out a loud grunt when she is relaxed and ready for her covers. Weekends are Lexie’s favorite. She gets to ride to grandpa and grandma’s house. There Lexie runs as much as she wants and digs. One of her favorite actives is finding the food the squirrels hid. However, I learned recently she is afraid of cats. Lexie is part of the whole family. She is so loved. I wouldn’t trade her for the world. |
