Preparation of the Application

In preparation for writing the application, it is important to consider all possible terminology related to the invention, such as the field of the invention and the particular inventive features. This can involve the use of a synonym dictionary or thesaurus (such as Roget's or Rodale), a standard and a technical dictionary. Also, the prior art can provide acceptable terminology, or the internet can be searched to find terminology.

A flowchart can be used as a guide when a process is involved in the invention. The flowchart can act as a "check-off list" as the invention is set forth in words. Other "check-lists" are valuable as well, such as for all reference numbers or other designations that are used in both the drawings and the description, and for all referenced features/objects showing the feature/object matched with its reference designation (e.g., a "parts list").
