Biotech Search Facility Gone (20031119)
The number of patent search facilities available to public searchers at the US Patent & Trademark Office has been reduced to only one: the main patent search room. The patent search facility that was located at the ground level of Crystal Mall One was closed during the week of November 10, 2003 in preparation to move all USPTO employees from this building to the new USPTO facility in Alexandria (at the “Carlyle” facility near the King Street metro station). Crystal Mall One currently contains the biochemical and design groups, and the biotechnology library. This is the first of the seven full buildings (and several other partially occupied buildings) in Crystal City that are being moved to the new Carlyle facility.

The main search facility located at the ground level of Crystal Plaza Three/Four is expected to be one of the last to move around the beginning of 2005. A new search facility is expected to be available by then.

Espacenet has a Makeover (20031119)
The web site for the European Patent Office has had a major upgrade. The new web site is: v3.espacenet.com, which can also be reached by entering the old web address as well. The look and feel has clearly changed substantially. An e-mail address is provided for feedback from users of the site.

The Biotech Library is Moving (20031202)
The Biotech Library, located on the ground floor of Crystal Mall 1 (in Crystal City, Arlington, VA), is closing its doors permanently (at this location) on December 16, 2003. It will resume at its new location on December 23, 2002, on the ground floor of the Henry Remsen, Jr Building (Alexandria, VA, near the Kings Street Metro Station), on the left as you enter.
