Moody, James Wendell

James Wendell Moody, 58, died Friday, June 8, 2001, in Marietta, Ga. A native of Newport News, Va., he was the son of the late Mary Frances Hill "Boodie" Moody and Oliver Wendell Holmes Moody, a former Circulation Manager for the Daily Press and the now defunct Times Herald, Inc. Jim graduated from NNHS in 1961. His college matriculation at GA. Tech was interrupted by a five- year stint as a singer and entertainer with a commercial folk group, THE TOWN CRIERS. The group toured the U.S. and recorded professionally. Jim completed his B.S. degree in Industrial Management from GA. Tech in 1969. He was employed over 30 years in development and marketing of industrial use plastics. An Eagle Scout, Jim served as past Scoutmaster in Marietta and was a WOODBADGE recipient. He enjoyed singing and a life-long passion for sailing. Jim is survived by three sons, Jim Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Irmo, S.C., Brett Moody of Dallas, Texas, and Chad Moody of Atlanta; his sister, Melissa Holmes Moody of Newport News; grandchildren, Jonathan and Charlotte Moody of Irmo, S.C.; paternal aunt, Evelyn Bush of Atlanta; and many cousins, close friends and co-workers. A memorial service was held Monday, June 11, at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta with the Rev. Randy Kanipe of Maple Ave. United Methodist Church, Marietta, officiating. Family and friends were received at the home of Gale Waters Moody in Marietta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1101 N. Destiny Road, #415, Maitland, FL 32751-7105.
