Edna Colbourn Marston

Edna Colbourn Marston, 92, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in The Chesapeake. A native of Wilmington, N.C., she had been a Peninsula resident for many years.  She was a teacher at Newport News High School from 1931 through 1971 and retired from Newport News Public Schools in 1973 after 42 years of service. Mrs. Marston was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a 1931 graduate of William and Mary. She was a member of the Newport News Retired Teachers Association, William and Mary Alumni Association, Newport News Women's Club, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Warwick Chapter.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Perkins Marston, and two brothers, Ernest Jefferson Colbourn and Thomas White Colbourn.  Survivors include her daughters, Ruth M. Carter and husband, J. Wallace Jr., of Hampton and Shirley M. Lewis and husband, George C., of Poquoson; and a son, Robert (Bobby) P. Marston of Newport News. She is also survived by four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight, Feb. 12 at Peninsula Funeral Home and at other times at the home of George and Shirley Lewis, 1218 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, by the Rev. Glen Cannon at Peninsula Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.  The family wishes to extend their loving thanks to the entire staff of The Chesapeake.
