What we will be making: ![]() Base What you need:
Step 1: Open your doll and "paste as a new layer" on a new canvas. Trasparent and 16 million colors. Step 2: Go to the bottom layer, you can do this from the toggle palette just click on the bottom layer. Now move that layer to the top so Layer 1 is above layer 2. (just click and drag in palette). ![]() ![]() Now the blank layer should be on top. Step 3: Let's begin drawing the tip of the wing. Choose your color, I'm choosing a pink to match. Hint~ this works best if you zoom in a few times! ![]() Step 4: Drawing feathers. Decide on whether you want long, short, thin, thick feathers. I'm going for short wide ones, you can also see how I began the second row. Take note, it is like a "brick" effect, in that it start in between the 3rd feather above not exactly below the first feather. A weaping effect upwards is a real nice touch. ![]() Finish off with as many rows as you desire. I'm only doing 2 for this doll. Step 5: Flood fill with a lighter shade of the outline color. There will be a few spots that you'll have to color in with the paint brush. It takes a wee bit of time but worth it. ![]() Step 6: Grab the retouch tool, settings as below: ![]() Now darken the outline of the feathers and in some spots shade it so it looks as if there is light above the wings. ![]() Step 7: Switch to lighten on the retouch tool. settings as below: ![]() Lighten inside each feather. ![]() Step 8: Grab your selection wand, click outside of the wings then go to selection/invert. So that the marching ants are surrounding the wing. ![]() Now go to selections again modify/contract. Select 1 pixel. ![]() The marching ants should be one pixel inside the wing. Step 9: Go to effects/blur/soften (while the wings have the marching ants). ![]() ![]() Step 10: Repeat the Darken and Light on the feathers to further define your wing. ![]() Last but not least: right click on image. Choose copy. ![]() Right click again. Choose paste as new selection. You should have another wing with ants around it. ![]() ![]() Now go to image/mirror. ![]() Now just move the wing to desired postion, deselect. Move that layer (wings) back down under the doll (on the bottom). Merge your layers, crop, set palette transparency...and viola. You have an angel. |
