Graduated from FCHS, Went to University of Mississippi, played Basketball and signed to play MLB by Chicago Cubs, this was when he was traded to St.Louis Cardinals

Don married Forrest City native Carolyn Crawley, daughter of Dr. Charles Eugene Crawley and Nina Wadsworth. Don and Carolyn have two sons, Keith and Kevin. After leaving baseball, they made their home in Memphis, Tennessee then Oxford, Mississippi.
