My philosophy as a future teacher in the classroom embraces Constructivism. For Constructivism to be evident in my classroom, I will instruct in the following ways: By providing meaningful learning activities, such as authentic experiences, problem-based projects, and cooperative learning groups, I will help students develop critical thinking skills and problem-solving strategies. In addition, I believe that these activities will support the growth of social skills development, ego enhancement, and their importance in the community and the world at large. Further, I believe that I will facilitate the student’s physical development by offering opportunities to develop fine and large motor skills through hands-on activities. As part of my belief that individuals construct their own knowledge, I will provide both verbal and visual assessments to capture the differences in how my students acquire and demonstrate their knowledge. These assessment strategies are questioning, visuals, teacher made tests, role-playing and multiple intelligences. As a Constructivist, I am more vested in the way my students make meaning of the world. My task will be to determine a way of transforming these alternative assessments into grades. As a teacher, I will be responsible for behavior management. It is my belief that when respect, trust, and rapport have been constructed and when students are engaged in meaningful learning, inappropriate behavior will be minimized. Therefore, it is my responsibility to create this learning environment. In conclusion, I am firmly planted in my goal to encourage students in their desire to learn through constructivist opportunities.
