Personal Philosophy

My personal philosophy encompasses my forty-eight years of experience. Throughout these past years I have encountered many instances of educational inequalities toward minorities. The educational system has deliberately marginalized the minority by making up-to-date text books unavailable to some students and also through the CSAP tests that are geared for Caucasian students. It is my goal to make quality education available for all Americans.

I intend to inject quality education into my classroom by teaching a multicultural curriculum which will integrate all learners. I will engage all students in participating in reading and interpreting literature written by multicultural authors. Then some of these authors will come to the classroom and speak to these students, and give them an opportunity to visualize their peers in an elevated position, instead of always seeing them in employment that is demeaning.

I will incorporate theatre as a source of instruction in order to engage those students who are not able to express themselves in their writing. It is important that all students be expressive both in their writing and in speaking. I believe that theatre is all about fun learning. It is a type of education that focuses on “doing,” and it stays with you forever. The scenarios that these students will participate in will range from real-life incidents at home, school and on the streets.

These exercises will help students develop their imaginations as well as doing a character analysis.
