1. What are the various factors that must be considered as preparation for writing an RFP?
2. What are the top five or six library management issues today?
3. Discuss the ways in which librarians have been affected by social concerns and involved in addressing them.
4. Discuss the purpose of the reference interview and describe the techniques of a skillful reference librarian. Include the nature and complexity of the question, the sophistication of the client, the mode in which the question is received (in person, by telephone, from another library agency) and the format of available reference sources.
5. What factors are taken into account when classifying materials in a library?
6. Libraries and archives receive funding and other types of support from a variety of sources. Choose a specific type of library and describe in detail its actual and potential sources of support, using examples whenever possible. Discuss possible ethical considerations, if any, in accepting particular forms of support.
7. To what extent is librarianship or archives management a profession?
8. What do you perceive as the role of the modern wholesaler, jobber, vendor, or serials agent? How is it determined by new technology? Discuss how you would choose a wholesaler, etc. Include the criteria you would utilize.
9. Discuss how you ascertain user needs and balance competing needs of various constituencies.
10. "We all stand on the shoulders of giants" is often cited in reference to discoveries and new developments. Consider the history and development of the fields of library science, information science, and/or archives and identify six "giants" from one or a combination of these fields. Then discuss in detail the contribution of each.
