Tribute to FASA
"The night burned.
A scene of ever-shifting light and darkness smothered the landscape. A
wind gone mad drove sheets of flame that twisted and writhed as they consumed
everything in their paths. Elm and asp trees and the tangled undergrowth
of an old forest, dried by seventy-two days without rain, were transformed
into towering pillars of fire as flames engulfed them and belched monstrous
plumes of black smoke that shut out the sky and turned everything into
soft-edged blurs. Dark shapes stumbled to and fro, attempting to
make sense of the madness on all sides, like drunkards stumbling from a
gala that had lasted the night. Unable to see through the flames and smoke,
the shapes slammed into trees and crashed into one other. An extremely
strong gust of wind momentarily cleared the smoke in the near vicinity
and the true scale of the moving shapes became visible; they towered among
the trees like giants—Greek Titans come to reclaim their lost birthright.
But these gods were made of metal and though the very gates of hell appeared
to have unleashed fiery demons on the land, the machines struggled with
human determination to kill each other."
FASA, the creator of Battletech, has closed its doors after 20 years. It is unfortunate
that this great company has stopped producing Battletech. Battletech will
continue, however. Wizkids LLC now takes on the torch, and all fellow Btech
players hope that the game is in good hands. Like all good stories and
creations, Battletech has taken on a life of its own. All good things must
come to the end, but that doesn't mean the Battletech story is finished.
The saga will continue. Thank you FASA, for your creation. Smokie's Bandits wishes you the best of luck.
