AMD Athlon
AMD Athlon the newest CPU has knocked the CPU giant Intel off the number 1 spot for the fastest CPU. In the Win bench test shown below the AMD Athlon kicked Intel PIII butt. More then by 10% and some of my test even more then 10%. Also, what is really good in the Athlon is the FPU (Floating Point). AMD has come along way and finally made a CPU worth buying. The thing I love about the Athlon is the price, you can't beat it for the quality of the CPU. Intel has tired to cut the prices of its PIII, but still isn't cheaper then the Athlon. The Athlon is still $250-$350 cheaper then the PIII.

Intel PIII
My first computer was a Pentium, but I switched to mainly using the AMD CPU's after I upgraded my computer because of the high prices that Intel was charging for their CPU's. The Intel PIII is a very good CPU from Intel, but the price they put on it is too much. I tired it out and I give it credit for having the Web Outfitter, but when tested against the Athlon at the same speed it fell to the side and came up slower.
FINAL THOUGHT
To sum it up the Athlon is worth putting your money into if you are looking for a upgrade or even as your first computer. The thing to keep in mind is the Athlon runs at 200mhz system bus and the Intel PIII runs at 100mhz. That's good because AMD is ahead and you won't have to worry about an upgrade in a couple months. You get the most bang for your buck with the Athlon
