Puppy Raising Tips

Here is an F.A.Q. about Cavalier puppies.
Q: What are some things I will need when I bring my new puppy home?
A: You will need the following:
1.) A cozy doggie bed (Make sure that the dog can't chew through it.
2.) Food & Water Bowl - Stainless Steel is the best because it is chew proof and can be washed.
3.) Collar - You should buy a collar that has a quick release buckle, and is adjustable. When the puppy's coat grows, a leather or rolled nylon colar is best, because it won't cut the puppy's neck.
4.) Leash - You will need 2 types. The first is a retractable one. It will allow the puppy some freedom, because it automatically lenghtens and shortens. The second leash is a 4 to 6 foot lead. This is good because it is the same type of lead used in training classes. Also, the lead should be as big as the puppy's collar.
5.) ID Tag - The tag must have your name, address, and phone number, and maybe the dogs name.
6.) Grooming supplies - Pin Brush, Slicker Brush, Flea Comb, Towel, Mat Rake, Grooming Glove, Scissors, Nail Clippers, Tooth-Cleaning Equipment, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Clippers.
7.) Toys - This may seem obvious, but it is very important. One good toy is a Kong. Kongs are little rubber toys, with a hole in one side. The hole can be filled with food and treats. Many dogs will work for hours to get all of the food out, and not stop until they are done.
8.) A Crate - There are 2 types of crates. The first is a wire crate, which is good in a place like the kitchen where there are usually many people. This type of crate lets you see when the dog needs to "go outside", and lets the dog see what's going on around it. The second type of crate is a foldable suitcase type one. It is good if the dog is going to be sleeping in your room. If you have the choice, go for the super duper heavy duty one, because it is possible for dogs to chew through the more flimsy ones.
Q: What are some household items that could kill my dog?
A: Many things can kill a dog, and they include:
Anti-Freeze
Cleaners (Especially Pine Oil)
Perfumes
Colgnes
Aftershave
Medications
Vitamins
Office Supplies
Craft Supplies
Electric Cords and Sockets
Chicken and Turkey Bones
Chocolate
Onions
Some plants, like Ivy, Oleander, and Poinsettia
Garden Supplies
Slug Bait
Pesticides
Fertilizers
Mouse or Rat Poisins
This list could go on and on, but i'll stop here, just use common sense, and if you are not sure, then don't let you dog near it.
