SANTA LETTERS Through this Global SchoolHouse project, my high school students are matched with a class of elementary students who sent the letters to Santa via e-mail. My students took on the Santa persona and replied to each letter. Guidelines and timelines were provided to help make this a successful project year after year. The Santa Letters project does not seem to exist at GSN but you may use the idea found at Allison Hayden to create your own project.

For Christmas '98, '99 and 2000, my class has worked with an elementary school in England for Santa Letters. So not only did we have an activity with which the students used their e-mail skills, they also were able to learn about the holiday traditions of another country. This year we were unable to work with the project but were easily able to find another class to take over our job.

ELECTRONIC CHRISTMAS GREETINGS
For several years, Hazel Jobe sponsored an electronic Christmas greetings project. It is now coordinated by Betty Jo English. This project allows students of all ages to create electronic greetings that are sent to Betty Jo in Virginia and then posted on the Internet for sharing with the world. Each class also sends their greetings via e-mail to all of the other participating classes after locating the addresses on the project website. You may view the 2001 collection at Holiday Greetings.

If you would be interested in the 2002 Holiday Greetings Exchange, send e-mail between October 15 and November 15, 2002 to Betty Jo English with the name of your city, state and country, name of school, your name, e-mail address and grade level. All holiday greetings should be sent to the participants between December 1 and December 17, 2002.

This project allowed my students to use the digital camera, the Internet and a graphics program to create their greetings as well as e-mail to send the finished product to all participating classes. They also used the Internet to view all of the other projects sent in by classes around the world as well as print out the e-mail as we received it, display work on our wall and mark a wall map for the location of each sending school.

You may view a selection of messages prepared by my students at Holiday Greetings from The Pruden Center
