Spreadsheet Fun With M & M's

Instructions:

  1. Each student will be given an individual pack of M & M candies.
  2. Without eating any candy, the student is to separate the candy by colors.
  3. On a sheet of paper, record the number of candies of each color that you found in your pack of M & M's.
  4. You may now eat your candy before proceeding to the computer lab.
  5. Using the electronic spreadsheet software, create a spreadsheet with the following fields:
    • Student Name
    • Red
    • Blue
    • Green
    • Yellow
    • Brown
    • Total M & M's
  6. Use all of the formatting techniques that you have learned to make your spreadsheet as attractive as possible.
  7. Enter your data about your pack of M & M's.
  8. Move about the computer lab entering your data into the spreadsheet of each student in the class.
  9. When you have all of the data in your spreadsheet, create formulas to compute the total number of candies both across and down in the total column.
  10. Create a pie chart showing the data for your pack of M & M's.
  11. Print the spreadsheet and pie chart separately.

Using the Internet, locate the official M & M web site. Explain why every bag of M & M's has a different mix of colors?

Turn in all of your work for grading.
