| Course Description | Equipment operators
who work for utility and heavy construction companies operate various types
of construction equipment. They use a range of skills to operate
a variety of machines that differ in the ways they work and the kinds of
work they do. Equipment operators usually specialize in a particular
type of equipment and are often identified by the specific equipment they
operate. A good operator can sometimes qualify for a higher rate
of pay by learning to operate more complicated machines. An operator
who possesses a serious interest and above average work habits, can advance
to the level of job supervisor or construction supervisor.
The Pruden Center offers a one-year program in Utility/Heavy Construction to provide both the knowledge and the hands-on skills needed to secure a job as a construction equipment operator. Students will learn about site grading and development, excavation, concrete structures, pipe laying, road building, and more. They will have the opportunity to gain experience in operating backhoes, excavators, bulldozers and loaders. |
