| Course Description | Nurse
Aides work under the supervision of registered or licensed practical nurses
to help care for physically or mentally ill, injured, disabled or infirm
individuals confined to a hospital or long-term care facility. In
nursing homes, nurse aides may be the principal care givers, spending far
more time with the residents than other members of the staff and
are expected to develop ongoing relationships with them and to respond
to their needs in a positive, caring way.
The program at The pruden Center for Industry and Technology has been approved by the Virginia State Board of Nursing for the training of Nurse Aides and prepares students for the State examination. The one-year Nurse Aide program at The Pruden Center teaches students to care for those who are ill and unable to care for themselves. Students learn to take and record vital signs as well as to provide routine patient care. The program includes an opportunity for students to gain clinical experience at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital and at local nursing homes.
