| Course Description | Automobile service
technicians repair and service automobiles, light trucks and other vehicles
with gasoline engines. The most valuable skill of a good service
technician is the ability to diagnose a problem quickly and accurately
after hearing a description of the problem from the owner, driving the
vehicle and using test equipement. Once the source of the problem
is determined, the service technician makes adjustments or repairs. In this two-year program students learn to repair fuel, electrical, cooling, brake, drive train and suspension systems. Instruction is also provided in the adjustment and repair of individual components and systems, such as radiators, transmissions and carburetors. Theory is taught through class assignments, disucssions and shop practice, while hands-on skills are developed through practical shop work.

Opportunities |
Job opportunities for automotive service technicians are expected to be plentiful for those with good training and a sincere desire to work. Experienced automotive service technicians can expect steady work, since changes in the economy which may affect other kinds of jobs have been shown to have little effect on the automobile repair business. | |
