Ted Kluszewski

----

Ted Kluszewski -- "Big Klu" -- was a star first baseman for the Cincinnati Reds in the late 1940's and 1950's. He also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels. Following his retirement as a player, Klu served as the Hitting Coach for the Reds.

After several years as a top home run hitter in the National League, Klu suffered a back injury which curtailed his power at bat, and possibly shortened his playing career. His greatest highlight as a baseball player came in 1959 when he played in the World Series for the White Sox against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the first game, Big Klu hit two home runs. He added another homer later in the series. Klu also hit two home runs in the very first game played by the expansion Los Angeles Angels in 1961.
