Cecil and I have one son, Shane, who is a writer of fantasy and role-playing games. Shane and his wife, Michelle gave us two grandsons, Caden, age 9 and Ronan, age 5. Shane and his family live in San Jose, California. He is employed by Cryptic Studios who publish the online computer game "City of Heroes" and "City of Villains"(Shane's Website) I earned my Masters Degree from Marshall University, lived in Ohio for about 13 years and returned to Clintwood in 1978. I am a speech-language pathologist, worked for Dickenson County Medical Center until it closed in December 2002. I now work for Heritage Hall Nursing Homes in Clintwood. I love being a Mamaw, surfing the Net, raising herbs, canoeing, cooking, and searching for shark teeth at Myrtle Beach.
The weekend after graduation Earl, who had joined the Air Force, found
himself in San Antonio, Texas. He knew that joining the Air Force would
give him the opportunity later in life to take advantage of the GI Bill. After
basic training, he found himself serving two tours in Southeast Asia -
stationed in Thailand. It was then that he realized that traveling opened
up an entirely new world never imagined while living in Clintwood.
After his discharge in 1970, he moved to Richmond, Virginia and worked
full time while attending college. Upon graduating with a BS Degree in
Accounting, he took the CPA exam and passed all four parts at the first
sitting. He then had a degree and CPA certification and was immediately
on the road to a very successful business career. Earl is presently
Corporate Controller for Richmond Paperboard Company, a subsidiary of
Caraustar Corporation.
After two unsuccessful attempts at marriage, he finally got it right! In
1994 he married Dianne Lee O'Connor, a native of Portsmouth, Virginia
and a graduate of William and Mary. Dianne had spent most of her adult
life in New York City where she built her career as a marketing and
promotion consultant for Fortune 500 companies including Philip Morris
and IBM, and for cable television networks including the Discovery
Channel. HBO, Showtime, AMC, and the Playboy Channel. Presently
Dianne heads up the Public Relations and Internal Communication Office
for the Virginia Department of Taxation!
Along with Dianne came her lovely, intelligent, and talented daughter
Amanda who graduated from Va. Tech with majors in communications,
theater, and a minor in French. Amanda is now 25 years old and is a
News Producer for FOX television in Washington, D.C.
Dianne and Earl spend their vacations traveling throughout Europe, and
over the past 5 years have visited Madrid, Costa del Sol, Rome, Naples,
Pompeii, London, and Amsterdam. Two years ago, they took Amanda
with them to Paris - she had previously studied French in Paris and Paris
is her most favorite city in the world.
Their home is located in the Historic Fan District of Richmond and was
built in 1913 and restored in 1992. Dianne says that is the only house she
has ever fallen in love with - it has 11 foot ceilings, pocket doors, and
even a billiard room. They need a map to navigate their house.
Dianne and Earl plan to retire in 6 years and have plans to travel around
the world extensively. They are planning their first trip's destinations to
be Hawaii, Australia, Thailand and Hong Kong. But first, they need to
decide where they will be traveling next year.
Dianne has yet to see Clintwood and hope that will be remedied if there
is 40th reunion.
Linda lives in Lakeland, Florida.

Betty Swindall Matthews Ann Vance Powers Jennings Vanover After basic training and military police training, I was stationed in Korea. Eight months after arriving in Korea I dropped into a Chinese restaurant next to my favorite watering hole for a bite to eat before going back to the barracks, and struck up a conversation with a friend of the owner’s daughter. I would vigorously disagree with those who say there is no such thing as love at first sight; I was absolutely thunderstruck. Here was the most beautiful girl in the world and, most importantly, she was talking to me. Through her broken English and my bar room Korean, we made a date. A year later on May 27, 1968, young and foolish, Won Sook Cho and I were married. We’ve been together ever since and have been blessed with two wonderful children. Theresa, our daughter, was born January 21, 1970, and currently lives in Mt. Prospect, IL, a Chicago suburb. We were in California while she was in high school and she toured Europe for two weeks with the HS band. She graduated from Monterey HS and took her senior trip to Disneyland. Her first two years as an undergraduate were spent in hardship at Chaminade University of Honolulu on an academic scholarship. In 1992, Theresa graduated from the University of Washington, works in public relations, and has never been married. That drives her mother crazy. Our son, Jay, was born on October 16, 1974, and currently lives in Mt. Laurel, NJ, across the river from Philadelphia. Jay graduated from Timberline HS, Lacey, WA, and while we were in IL, attended a community college for a couple of years. After we moved to Columbus, OH, he graduated from OSU in 1997, with a degree in electrical and computer engineering (he’s a smart kid). I had to bribe him to live at home by getting him a car. He works for Lockheed-Martin and is unmarried. That drives his mother crazy. I spent 24 years, 11 months, and 21 days in the Army. That’s about 22 years, 11 months, and 21 days longer than I ever intended. But, as they say, stuff happens. Actually, the Army was good for me because I needed direction, discipline, and constant supervision. Looking back I realize how immature I was at that period of my life. Without sounding cliché, the military does make a man out of you (even out of some of the women!). I sure got to travel to exotic places. Thankfully I never went to Vietnam, but I spent five tours in Korea, one in Germany, and had temporary assignments in Hong Kong and Alaska. My most unforgettable assignment was three years in Hawaii. Jo and I were just married and it was like an extended honeymoon. In addition to living overseas, we lived in Alabama, Louisiana, California, and Washington. They just kept sending me further and further away from Clintwood. Most of the time I was in the Army I was a Military Policeman. I was a patrolman, gate guard, patrol supervisor, desk sergeant, and patrol operations. I was a physical security inspector in Germany inspecting sites with the “big bang” capability. That was a real eye opener! I was a traffic accident investigator in Hawaii and our section rode motorcycles (1956, HD 900 Sportsters). After nearly 12 years of being a uniformed cop I got tired of it. I applied for and was accepted into the Army Criminal Investigation Command. It was great. I was appointed as a Special Agent for the Army. No more uniforms, I had a gold badge, and worn a concealed .38. I investigated all kinds of felony crimes for the Army for 13 years. When I retired from the Army in April 1992, I as a Chief Warrant Officer and the Special Agent in Charge of Fort Lewis, WA, one of the Army’s largest forts. The Army gave me some great training and schooling including a year studying Korean at the Defense Language Institute. Additionally, they paid most of my tuition and I finally completed my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, earned an MS in Education, and an MPA in Public Administration. After the Army, I got a job as a criminal investigator with the Defense Logistics Agency, the agency of the Dept. of Defense that obtains all the supplies needed by the armed services. About three years ago, I was selected to become one of five to be trained to conduct computer investigations for the agency. I found I have a knack for it and have a case pending Court-Martial. An Air Force officer was using his Government computer to indulge his sickness for child pornography. We’re moving again. I’ve receiving a promotion and was asked to open a new office in New Cumberland, PA, near Harrisburg. Our agency has two large depots there and they have asked for on-site investigative support and, that would be me. I have to be there July 20th. In my spare time I like to read a good book, putter around my yard, and play golf. Willie recently received an email from him that related the following biographical information:
I met my goal and retired at age 50. I was doing a lot of traveling and had a manufacturing plant in Texas, New York, and the one in Stuarts Draft, Va. We decided to sell our farm ( which I greatly miss) and build on Smith Mt. Lake by Roanoke. We do a lot of boating and fishing and have a good bit of company which we enjoy. During the bad weather days I do a little day-trading. My wife inherited a mountain cabin in Linville N.C. (by Grandfather Mountain) where we retreat for a nice cool and quiet escape.
Over all I am doing well and in great health.
Regreatfully, I am committed to be in Nags Head on that week end (reunion). Five couples have rented a beach house for a week and it is our turn to open up and have the evening meal ready. Tell everyone hello for me. Your classmate, Kyle

I have taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades during my 25 years of teaching. Presently, I have the best job at Abingdon Elementary teaching Virginia History to all 4th graders. It's a real challenge getting "connected" to each student, but it's a fun and rewarding experience. Even though I feel my body getting older, this job keeps the heart young. I have a son, Josh, who will be a sophomore at Roanoke College this fall. He is a tall, handsome, blue-eyed blonde (yes, I gave birth to him) who works hard on making his dreams a reality, while enjoying life along the way. His adventuresome spirit has rubbed off on his mother, who looks forward to retirement and fulfilling some dreams of her own. I don't have much free time, but when I do, I enjoy helping out the Animal Defense League of Washington County, an organization that some friends and I co-founded 20 years ago. I also enjoy just being at home. Anytime you're ever in Abingdon or just passing through, please come by for a visit. I would love to see you all!!

Jerry Farmer and I did marry in March 1966, and were married for 10 years.
Seven of those years were spent in Europe as Jerry was in the USAF then. We
have a 33-year old daughter, Camden, who is a medical laboratory technician
for a hospital in Macon. She lives near Jerry..he gets to spoil our 6-year
old granddaughter, Megan, more than I do. Jerry married a Georgia peach,
Margie, and he works for the USPS in Macon.
I married Alan Field 23 years ago. We lived in Texas and Florida, and
finally put down roots in Lawrenceville, GA, which is about 25 miles NE of
Atlanta. We love it here..we live in a modest close-knit neighborhood with
wonderful friendly neighbors. Alan is semi-retired, but hopes to soon sell
a financial program he has written. I have fought and won a battle with
breast cancer this year (2002), and will be going back to work soon. Things
are finally getting back to normal, thank God.
That's about it. If you're ever in Atlanta, look us up. We're in the
book...Alan and Pat Field.
Betty is a teacher and lives in Manassas, Virginia.
Ann lives in Wise, Virginia.
After graduation I attended LMU for a whole quarter before dropping out with the intention of going to CVC. In March 1966, I received a letter from the Selective Service requesting I come in for a pre-draft physical. I was drafted on June 21, 1966. I figured I’d could put up with the Army for a couple years and finish school under the G.I. Bill.
