PSALMS 91:1-2
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

"I will say of the Lord: HE is my refuge and my fortress". The blessings of safety, security, peace and refuge are to be found in a personal relationship with God in Christ.
To be without God is to be exposed to dangers of every kind, to be alienated from the one place where we can be sure of continued and constant protection. Outside of Christ we have no covering. But in him, we are surrounded by grace and God as our shield, and our exceeding great reward (Genesis 15:1).

A bird protecting her young with her wings:
surrounding them with feathers, for warmth, shelter and protection. It is an image employed by God of His relationship with Israel - "I bore you on eagles' wings," he says, "and I brought you to Myself" (Exodus 19:4). As the Sun of Righteouness, he rises with healing in his wings (Malachi 4:2). Time and again the psalms express the prayer that God's people will be under the refuge of God's wings (Psa 17:8; 36:7).
Jesus, when He laments over Jerusalem. "How often," cries Jesus, "I wanted to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!" (Luke 13:34). The preaching of the Gospel had had little effect, in spite of the many opportunities for repentance and faith God in his grace had given the city. Jesus offers a place of safety under his wing; instead, he was rejected, and Jerusalem will be left desolate and alone.
full of warmth, love and tenderness. It is a reminder of the depth of interest Christ takes in sinful men and women; of the tenderness of his touch; of the sincerity of his call; of the blessings he imparts and the salvation he makes available. Nothing in this world can come near the fulness of this salvation. Those who have it, have fellowship in the very life of God Himself.
To be under the shadow of the Almighty it frees us from fear. How many things there are in this world which make us afraid! Verse 5 talks about the night, whose darkness multiplies our fears and magnifies our anxieties so often. But in Christ fear is gone. It is banished. He says to us, in all the long nights of our Christian experience, "It is I, be not afraid". Whatever threatens our peace, nothing can threaten our relationship with Him, and all things are secure in the palm of his hand.
Then there is personal victory assured against every opposition and every enemy. Whether it comes as a lion or as a serpent, God promises that we will stand on our enemies, and trample them under foot. Sin will not have dominion. God's grace is given us, and it is sufficient for us.
Let's be fully persuaded that the path leading to his rest is the only worthwhile way of life. And in full confidence in our savior's love, take our refuge in the fortress of his power to heal and to bless.

Father thank you for you word. Teach us LORD to abide under the shadow of you. To be our fortress and our refuge. Thank you LORD, we delight in your ways and your truth. Thank you LORD for being our all and all. I ask all these in your wondeful powerful name JESUS.
AMEN
